1/9. arthrogryposis multiplex congenita in a patient with limited mouth opening: a case report.

This report describes a case of arthrogryposis multiplex congenita and concomitant bruxism with limited mouth opening and pain in the temporomandibular joints (TMJ). A conservative treatment with a myorelaxing splint and physiotherapeutic exercises was prescribed resulting in improvement to the muscular and joint conditions and a reduction in pain.

2/9. A case of anterior open bite developing during adolescence.

Imaging studies have reported on the relationship between temporomandibular joint (TMJ) degeneration and facial deformity. These studies have suggested that mandibular growth is affected by TMJ degeneration, resulting in altered skeletal structure as mandibular retrusion. However, there are very few longitudinal case reports on TMJ osteoarthrosis (OA). Progressive open bite occurred in an adolescent patient with TMJ OA. Cephalometric analysis showed a downward and backward rotated mandible, and a labial inclination of the upper incisor. magnetic resonance imaging showed internal derangement without reduction and erosion in the right and the left condyles. Although the cause of open bite is unclear in this case, tongue thrusting, and internal derangements in the temporomandibular joint were suspected as causes of the open bite.

3/9. Restorative and Invisalign: a new approach.

This case report describes an interdisciplinary treatment approach using the Invisalign System (Align technology, Inc., Santa Clara, california) for orthodontics in combination with restorative dentistry. This combined approach was selected for an optimum esthetic and functional result. This case report demonstrates how a restorative case can be improved with prerestorative orthodontic alignment. The Invisalign System was used for opening the bite anteriorly, space distribution, and midline correction. The restorative dentistry procedures involved veneering to enhance the maxillary incisor length-to-width ratio and provide anterior guidance. The cosmetic alternative treatment modality to conventional fixed orthodontics allowed the clinician to accomplish the prerestorative orthodontic goals to help meet the desires of an esthetically conscientious patient.

4/9. Diagnosis and dental treatment of a young adult patient with gastroesophageal reflux: a case report with 2-year follow-up.

A young adult who complained of extreme dentin sensitivity to tactile and thermal stimuli exhibited severe, generalized tooth erosion and an associated parafunctional habit. The diagnosis of the underlying general disease and treatment of its dental sequelae are presented, together with a 2-year follow up. patients who are suspected of having gastroesophageal reflux should be referred to a gastroenterologist or other health professionals to ensure early diagnosis and treatment of the underlying disorder, thus minimizing the destruction of the patient's dentition and improving the patient's general health. Dental treatment should be adjusted to fit the characteristics of each case.

5/9. Acquired-transient factor x deficiency associated with anticardiolipin antibodies in a child with extensive burns.

The article presents the case of an 18-month-old boy with major scald burns complicated by acquired F-X deficiency. On the 15th day of hospitalization, the patient developed sepsis and fever. He also exhibited bruxism, especially during the febrile episodes, which his permanent teeth to luxate and become mobile. Pedodontists decided that all the child's teeth should be extracted to ensure proper development of the jaw with growth. Twelve hours later, he developed a leukemoid reaction, which was attributed to infection with another aerobic organism or development of anaerobic bacteremia after teeth extraction. Twenty-four hours after the extractions, the burn wounds began oozing and there was extensive gingival bleeding and epistaxis. Coagulation parameters were assessed immediately. disseminated intravascular coagulation was detected initially and was successfully treated with fresh-frozen plasma transfusions, but bleeding from the burn wounds and nasal/oral mucous membranes continued. Further testing revealed the diagnosis of acquired isolated F-X deficiency linked with antiphospholipid antibodies. Treatment with plasmapheresis, steroids, and intravenous immunoglobulin was successful. Hypertrophic scar formation was the only issue during 7 months of follow-up.

6/9. bruxism secondary to chronic antidopaminergic drug exposure.

Eight cases of diurnal bruxism (DB) secondary to long-term antidopaminergic drug exposure are reported. Five exhibited a grinding pattern, one a clenching form, and two a mixed type. An odontological etiology was absent throughout. EMG recordings disclosed two distinct patterns of muscle activity, one with brief rhythmic, forceful contractions and the other featuring sustained prolonged contractions. Surface EMG and EEG monitoring during a 24-h period confirmed the absence of bruxism during sleep. Several drug trials failed to provide relief. Our findings support DB as a focal tardive dystonia syndrome.

7/9. Acquired anterior open bite and facial arthromyalgia: possible aetiology.

The development of an anterior open bite in four patients with facial arthromyalgia is described. There were radiological signs of condylar erosion in three of these cases. It is proposed that the pre-senile destructive arthropathy of the temporomandibular joint, seen in a small proportion of patients with facial arthromyalgia, results from lysis of articular cartilage and bone, secondary to an inflammatory process initiated by the local release of neuropeptides. Occlusal changes, including anterior open bite, may occur if the destructive arthropathy is severe and outstrips dentoalveolar compensation.

8/9. Dual bite demonstrated by kinesiography: a case report.

A 60-year-old man sought treatment for extensive tooth wear resulting from bruxism. He had no signs of temporomandibular joint dysfunction. The kinesiographic study revealed that he had a dual bite, with two intercuspal positions, separated by 3 mm anteroposteriorly and by 7 mm laterally. The dentition was restored with metal-ceramic crowns to restore a normal occlusion. The kinesiographic follow-up studies revealed that, initially, it was difficult for the patient to adapt to a new occlusal design, but 6 years later, the dual bite had disappeared. However, the disoccluding angle had flattened where the second intercuspal position had previously existed, corresponding, clinically, to a change from canine guidance to anterior-canine guidance.

9/9. Posterior bite collapse--revisited.

Although there are different definitions of posterior bite collapse, only the classical definition of Amsterdam provides a definite diagnosis and treatment plan. This situation entails a subtle loss of the occlusal vertical dimension with resultant flaring of the maxillary incisors. Other causes for flaring, such as derangements of form and functions of lips and tongue, bruxism, habits, as well as the presence of advanced periodontal disease or malocclusions, should be ruled out before the diagnosis of posterior bite collapse can be made. The complexity of differential diagnosis is illustrated with three case reports.
