1/4. hemoperitoneum is an initial presentation of recurrent granulosa cell tumors of the ovary.Ovarian sex cord-stromal tumors account for less than 5% of all ovarian carcinoma, of which granulosa cell tumors account for 70%. These tumors have a propensity for indolent growth and late recurrence; they may even occur 25 years after initial treatment. We report a 44-year-old woman with hemoperitoneum (acute abdomen) after initial treatment 10 years earlier for granulosa cell tumor of the ovary. 2/4. A case of a gastrointestinal stromal tumour presenting as acute abdomen.BACKGROUND: Gastrointestinal stromal tumour (GIST) has many modes of presentation. This is the first reported GIST presenting as an acute abdomen. methods: A man presented with signs and symptoms suggestive of acute appendicitis. Examination under anaesthesia revealed a mass. At laparotomy a strangulated mass was found originating from the greater curve of the stomach. Subsequent histopathology confirmed this to be a gastrointestinal stromal tumour, probably of a benign nature. Post-operative investigations did not show any metastatic spread. CONCLUSIONS: GISTs arise from the gastrointestinal tract, omentum, and mesentery. Presentation is generally non-specific and it is rare for them to present acutely. 3/4. Perforated GIST of the small intestine as a rare cause of acute abdomen: Surgical treatment and adjuvant therapy. Case report.A case of perforated gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST) of small intestine causing acute abdomen is described, with a brief review of the literature. A male patient presented with symptoms of acute abdomen. After evaluation, a laparotomy was performed, where perforation of a tumor in the ileum was found. The perforated part along with the tumor was resected and the cytopathological examination showed that the tumor was GIST. Postoperatively, the patient received treatment, using imatinib. gastrointestinal stromal tumors are relatively rare and often present with vague symptoms. Their first clinical manifestation as acute abdomen due to their perforation is extremely rare. 4/4. High-grade endometrial stromal sarcoma in a 16-year-old girl.Endometrial stromal sarcoma (ESS) is a rare uterine malignancy with a variety of morphologic characteristics and clinical courses. We describe a case of high-grade malignant ESS in an adolescent girl, arising in a rudimentary uterine horn and presenting symptoms of an acute abdomen. The patient underwent a total abdominal hysterectomy with bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy and omentectomy due to a stage IVA high-grade ESS. An adjuvant chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatment was recommended, but 10 days after her discharge the condition of the patient deteriorated, with diffused metastases into the lungs and the abdomen, and finally she succumbed to the disease 1 month after her first admission to the hospital.- - - - - - - - - - ranking = 2.5keywords = stromal (Clic here for more details about this article) |
