1/6. Uncommon presentation of a giant biliary cystadenoma: correlation between MRI and pathologic findings.

An uncommon case of a giant mucinous biliary cystadenoma (BCA) of the liver is described. On T2-weighted and STIR images, a large hyperintense cystic mass revealed some septations and multiple intracystic masses of similar size and shape and uniform signal intensity, which was isointense to liver parenchyma. On T1-weighted images, intracystic bodies were obscured and the cyst was hyperintense. The magnetic resonance (MR) appearance of intracystic fluid and structures was not due to mucinous or proteinous or hyperproteinous material, but corresponded to clots floating within hemorrhagic fluid.

2/6. Mucinous cystadenoma: a rare abdominal mass in childhood.

Ovarian masses are uncommon in children. Only 10 - 17 % of them are epithelial tumours. Mucinous cystadenoma in children is a benign cystic ovarian neoplasm, and it is met very rarely in the medical literature. We present a 13-year-old girl with a giant ovarian mucinous cystadenoma.

3/6. Giant ovarian tumor removed after preoperative drainage, with abdominoplasty. A case report.

BACKGROUND: Giant ovarian tumors are rarely seen in modern surgical practice. Cardiopulmonary complications associated with the removal of such tumors are serious problems. CASE: An ovarian tumor weighing 55 kg was removed from a 33-year-old woman without cardiorespiratory complications using preoperative drainage and abdominoplasty by excision of the excess skin. CONCLUSION: Preoperative drainage before and abdominoplasty after removal of giant ovarian tumors are effective.

4/6. Giant appendiceal mucocele: report of a case and brief review.

mucocele of the appendix is a rare lesion, characterized by distension of the lumen due to accumulation of mucoid substance. This disease is often asymptomatic and pre-operative diagnosis is rare. If untreated, one type of mucocele may rupture producing a potentially fatal entity known as pseudomyxoma peritonei. The type of surgical treatment is related to the dimensions and to histology of the mucocele. appendectomy is used for simple mucocele or for cystadenoma. Right hemi-colectomy is recommended for cystadenocarcinoma. In this paper, we report a case of a 51-year-old woman with a mobile, painless mass in the right lower quadrant of abdomen caused by a giant appendiceal mucocele. Imaging showed a large, tubular, cystic structure extending below from the inferior wall of the cecum. Surgery revealed a giant retro-cecal appendix measuring 17 cm in length and 4 cm in diameter. The final pathologic diagnosis was mucocele caused by mucinous cystadenoma.

5/6. sarcoma-like mural nodules in ovarian mucinous cystadenomas--a report of two cases.

sarcoma-like mural nodule is a very rare occurrence in a mucinous tumour of the ovary. Two such nodules having morphologically benign features with osteoclastic giant cells, in the wall of mucinous cystadenoma are described. In addition, these nodules exhibited reactive vascular proliferations. The sarcoma-like nodules are associated with a favourable outcome and must be distinguished from other malignant nodules composed of sarcoma or anaplastic carcinoma that may also occur in the wall of mucinous ovarian tumours.

6/6. Halving of body weight: a case of an ovarian mucinous cystadenoma.

Benign, mucinous cystadenomatas account for 15% all ovarian neoplasms and of these, giant variants occur rarely. Ovarian masses, particularly mucinous cystadenomas, are among the largest tumours known. Surgery is the treatment of choice for a large mucinous cystadenoma. In this report we present an interesting case of an ovarian mucinous cystadenoma weighing 40 kg. Surgical treatment was successful and the patient adjusted well to her postoperative body image.
