1/5. Molarization of the lower second premolars.

This paper presents a case of extreme tooth variation. The patient was first observed during the mixed dentition period, when she presented a mild Class II malocclusion with increased overjet and acceptable overbite. In a panoramic radiograph, the presence of lower second premolars of disproportionate dimensions was discovered. When these oversized premolars erupted, the Class I malocclusion tended toward Class III, with an edge-to-edge bite. This created an unstable occlusion and the possible need for extractions.

2/5. Periodontal lesions associated with deep traumatic overbite.

Certain aspects of malocclusion, particularly deep overbite, can be related to periodontal pathology, especially in the presence of poor oral hygiene. The authors have noted an association between deep overbite and unusual periodontal lesions. These lesions often appear on radiographs as circumscribed radiolucencies, remote from the alveolar crest and sometimes close to the apex. Gingival surface injury and food impaction may be important aetiological factors. This is illustrated in this article by a number of case studies.

3/5. Resin-bonded palatal stops for the management of a deep traumatic overbite--a case report.

This case presents a novel application of adhesive technology to treat a deep traumatic overbite in a patient unable to tolerate a removable appliance. Cast metal shelves were bonded into palatal surfaces of the upper anterior teeth. Three lower incisors required post crowns which were proclined slightly to engage the palatal stops of the upper teeth. After 24 months the palatal stops were firm and the occlusion seemed stable.

4/5. Partial dentures incorporating onlays in the treatment of a complete anterior overbite.

Incorporating onlays onto partial dentures, that is occlusal or incisal rests extended to cover the entire occlusal or incisal edges, can be used successfully to treat overbite. This case study describes its use in a patient with a complete anterior overbite together with severe tilting of some of the maxillary molar teeth. Early tooth loss, which had not been restored, was probably a significant aetiological factor in the patient's condition.
