1/4. Myelogenous leukemia cutis resembling stasis dermatitis.

leukemia cutis may clinically mimic many inflammatory dermatoses. A patient with myelodysplastic syndrome presented with an acute eruption of bilateral, lower-extremity, tender, indurated, brown plaques that clinically resembled chronic stasis dermatitis. Histologic study revealed a dermal myeloblastic leukemic infiltrate.

2/4. Necrotising dermatitis in refractory acute myeloid leukaemia.

Severe cutaneous infections in leukaemic patients are difficult to treat and can rapidly become fatal. We report on a case of essential thrombocythemia evolved to a myelodysplastic syndrome and finally, to an overt myeloid leukaemia, refractory to chemotherapy. In the presence of a marked neutropenia, the patients developed a wide staphylococcus epidermidis necrotising dermatitis. The diagnosis was made possible only by a skin biopsy culture and the antibiotic treatment, based on antimicrobial susceptibility tests, rapidly resolved the infection. In neutropenic patients, appropriate laboratory tests and treatment, can lead to recovery of life-threatening infections.

3/4. Myelodysplastic syndrome associated with multiple autoimmune disorders.

The association between myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) and autoimmune manifestations is not uncommon. As a rule, autoimmune abnormalities follow the diagnosis of MDS. We describe here a patient with MDS who developed a striking spectrum of diverse autoimmune disorders, including dermatitis, polyarthritis, and vasculitis, which preceded the clinical appearance of MDS.

4/4. Superoxide anion hyperproduction by neutrophils in a case of myelodysplastic syndrome. association with Sweet's syndrome and interstitial pneumonia.

The complication of Sweet's syndrome and interstitial pneumonia occurred in a patient with myelodysplastic syndrome. Superoxide anion production by the patient's neutrophils was considerably higher than that by neutrophils obtained from normal controls after stimulation with opsonized zymosan, phorbol myristate acetate, or myristic acid. prednisone, which a potent inhibitor of superoxide anion production by neutrophils, dramatically improved the skin and pulmonary lesions, suggesting that they were parts of the same clinical spectrum associated with the superoxide anion hyperproduction.
