1/7. cystadenoma of the seminal vesicle: report of a case with ultrastructural findings.

Cystadenomas of the seminal vesicles are extremely rare benign tumours. We have not been able to find more than 10 cases in the literature. A benign cystadenoma of the seminal vesicle is described in a 49-year-old man. The clinical presentation, gross appearance, microscopic characteristics, immunohistochemical and ultrastructural findings of this uncommon tumour are discussed. The purpose of this paper is to report an unusual case of cystadenoma of the seminal vesicle and review the 10 previously reported cases in the English literature.

2/7. An unusual low-abdominal tumor: cystadenoma of the seminal vesicle.

cystadenoma of the seminal vesicle is an extremely rare benign tumor, which to our findings has only been mentioned earlier in seven previous reports. It is a benign and mostly multilocular tumor, thought to originate from embryologic remnants. Preoperative diagnosis is rarely made. Complete extirpation is the correct treatment. We present this first Belgian case with a discussion of imaging techniques, symptomatology, pathology, diagnosis, and treatment.

3/7. cystadenoma of the seminal vesicle.

Primary tumors of the seminal vesicle are quite rare with most reported cases being carcinomas. However, benign tumors of the seminal vesicle are extremely rare. We report a case of a cystadenomas of the seminal vesicles in a 46-year-old asymptomatic man, which was detected incidentally by computed tomography.

4/7. Haemorrhagic papillary cystadenoma of the seminal vesicle mimicking giant seminal vesicle cyst: MRI appearances.

Papillary cystadenoma of the seminal vesicle is very rare. We describe such a case presenting in a 58 year old man with bladder outlet obstruction. Investigations included magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), the usefulness of which in pre-operative diagnosis is highlighted in this case. Seminal vesicle cysts can usually be identified by conventional radiological imaging techniques such as ultrasound and computed tomography; however, identification would be difficult if the cyst is very large, causing distortion of the adjacent anatomy. In such cases, MRI, through coronal and sagittal scanning, can be helpful in localising the lesion, as in this patient. The precise pathological nature of the cyst can only be confirmed by biopsy.

5/7. Cystic epithelial-stromal tumor of the seminal vesicle.

A cystic tumor composed of atypical glands in a cellular stroma arose in the pelvis of a 49-year-old man. Two years later an identical tumor was again excised from the pelvis. Morphologic, immunohistochemical and ultrastructural studies indicate that this neoplasm arose in the seminal vesicle, possibly from a seminal vesicle cyst. The tumor did not involve the prostate gland, and immunohistochemical stains for prostate-specific antigen and prostatic acid phosphatase were negative. Ultrastructural study showed that both the glandular and mesenchymal components of the tumor recapitulated features of normal seminal vesicle, further establishing origin from this site. This tumor resembles the rare cystadenoma of the seminal vesicle, yet the cytologic atypia suggests low grade malignant potential. Following the second excision, the patient has had a disease-free interval of 18 months. Long term follow-up and recognition of additional cases is necessary to define the biologic potential of this unusual tumor.

7/7. Seminal vesicle cystadenoma: a case report and literature review.

Primary tumors of the seminal vesicle are rare; most reported cases are carcinomas, with occasional reports of primary seminal vesicle sarcoma and an uncommon group of mixed epithelial-stromal tumors. The latter have been variably reported in the literature as cystadenoma, phyllodes tumor, and mullerian adenosarcoma-like tumor. We describe a 37-year-old man who presented with symptoms of bladder outlet obstruction and was found to have a pelvic mass. Resection of the mass yielded a biphasic tumor characterized by cystically dilated glandular spaces admixed with spindle-shaped stromal cells. There was no significant cytologic atypia or mitotic activity. The histologic features are most consistent with the reported cases of cystadenoma. The patient is alive, with no evidence of disease, 6 months after surgery. This case adds to the gradually growing body of literature on mixed epithelial-stromal tumors of the seminal vesicle.
