12/31. Malignant fibrous histiocytoma of spermatic cord.

Malignant fibrous histiocytomas are very rare, particularly those related to urogenital organs. We report herein the third known case of this entity involving the spermatic cord. Summary of the previously reported 2 cases is given with recent follow-up. prognosis is poor.

13/31. Malignant fibrous histiocytoma of the spermatic cord.

We report a case of malignant fibrous histiocytoma of the spermatic cord and review 11 previously reported cases. Radical orchiectomy along with wide local excision is the treatment of choice. The rate of local recurrences and distant metastases is 33 per cent (4 of 12 cases) and the 5-year survival rate is 57 per cent (4 of 7 cases).

14/31. Malignant fibrous histiocytoma of the scrotal wall: a case report.

We report a rare case of malignant fibrous histiocytoma arising from the scrotal wall. Wide excision of the tumor was followed 9 months later by metastasis to the ipsilateral superficial inguinal nodes. The patient remained well without evidence of disease 15 months after ipsilateral ilioinguinal node dissection.

15/31. Inflammatory malignant fibrous histiocytoma of the spermatic cord.

A 74-year-old man with a right inguinal hernia since 15 years was admitted because of inguinal pain and enlarged ipsilateral testis. Surgical exploration revealed a hernia with an empty hernial sac and three tumoral masses in the spermatic cord. Tumoral masses, spermatic cord, and testis were removed. Histological examination of the tumoral masses revealed a malignant inflammatory fibrous histiocytoma. The tumor infiltrated the vas deferens, pampiniform plexus, and adjacent adipose tissue. epididymis and testis were not infiltrated. Three years after treatment with radiotherapy no recurrence or metastases have been observed.

16/31. Malignant fibrous histiocytoma of the spermatic cord. A case report.

A case of malignant fibrous histiocytoma of the spermatic cord treated by primary local excision, followed 5 days later by radical inguinal orchidectomy and hemi-scrotectomy is reported. At 30 months' follow-up the patient is free from local recurrence.

17/31. Recurrent dedifferentiated liposarcoma of the spermatic cord simulating malignant fibrous histiocytoma: an immunohistochemical and ultrastructural study.

A case of recurrent dedifferentiated liposarcoma simulating malignant fibrous histiocytoma, with complete absence of lipoblastic differentiation, is described. The tumour cells showed strongly positive immunostaining for alpha-1-antichymotrypsin. Electron microscopy revealed a mixture of fibroblasts and histiocytes. Our findings suggest that the dedifferentiated component reflects an altered differentiation pathway of the primitive mesenchymal cells in the original liposarcoma.

18/31. Cavernous hemangioma of scrotum and penile shaft.

We report a 13-year-old boy with two independently detected cavernous hemangiomas of the scrotum and the penile shaft. A right scrotal cavernous hemangioma was incidentally found at the age of 6 years by a histological examination of a right scrotal hematoma attributed to contusion. The patient noticed a soft tumor of the penile shaft at the age of 10 and gradual enlargement of the tumor during the next 3 years. He consulted our department at the age of 13. An ultrasonic echogram revealed a heterogeneous tumor, a hemangioma, having dimensions of 3.5 X 2.5 X 1.5 cm and no connection of the corpus cavernosum penis. The tumor was completely removed surgically by means of circumcision on March 30, 1984, and histological examination demonstrated a cavernous hemangioma.

20/31. Malignant fibrous histiocytoma originating in the left spermatic cord with a review of 14 cases in the literature.

An 84-yr-old man developed a small-finger-tip sized tumor in the left inguinal area about five to six years prior to consultation with the urology Department. Later, the tumor extended to the scrotum and the suprapubic area. Histological examination of an en block specimen showed the tumor to be a malignant fibrous histiocytoma of spermatic cord origin. Fourteen cases in the worldwide literature are reviewed, and characteristics of malignant fibrous histiocytoma at this particular site are discussed.
