1/28. Cavernous haemangioma of the submandibular salivary gland.

    Salivary gland haemangioma is more common in the parotid than in any other salivary gland. Parotid haemangioma is considered to be the most common salivary gland tumour in infants, but is also occasionally encountered in adults. A case of cavernous haemangioma affecting the submandibular salivary gland in an adult woman is presented. The striking histological feature is the presence of numerous vascular channels assuming a periductal arrangement.

2/28. Huge cavernous hemangioma of the adrenal gland: sonographic, computed tomographic, and magnetic resonance imaging findings.

    Cavernous hemangiomas of the adrenal gland are rare in clinical practice. Recently some cases have come to clinical attention as incidental findings on sonography, computed tomography (CT), or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). With many reports regarding its CT or MRI manifestation, sonographic features of this entity have seldom been delineated. We report the case of a patient with a huge nonfunctioning cavernous hemangioma of the adrenal gland and describe the imaging findings of the lesion.

3/28. Diffuse neonatal hemangiomatosis: CT findings in an adult.

    Diffuse neonatal hemangiomatosis (DNH) is a rare disorder that usually presents in infancy and has a high mortality rate. We report a long-term adult survivor of DNH who presented with multiple calcifications in the bowel wall, liver, spleen, and adrenal glands on CT. Diffuse neonatal hemangiomatosis needs to be added to the causes of visceral calcifications.

4/28. Giant adrenal hemangioma: a case report.

    Although adrenal masses are relatively common, hemangiomas occurring in adrenal glands are rare. This entity creates problems in the differential diagnosis. We report a patient with a giant cavernous hemangioma with a diameter of 13 cm, which was pre-operatively diagnosed as an adenoma or a malignant tumour. Clues to the correct diagnosis and therapeutic alternatives are discussed in the context of the available literature.

5/28. Submandibular cavernous hemangiomas with multiple phleboliths masquerading as sialolithiasis.

    Vasoformative tumors (almost exclusively hemangiomas) are the most common lesions of the major salivary glands during infancy and early childhood. They are more common in the parotid gland but are particularly rare in the submandibular gland. Changes in blood flow dynamics within hemangiomas result in thrombus formation and phleboliths. Hemangiomas of the salivary glands in adults are histologically unlike those in infants, the former being characteristically of the cavernous variant. Most cavernous hemangiomas require surgery since they do not show a tendency to regress. A case of an adult man with cavernous hemangioma affecting the submandibular salivary gland that clinically simulated sialolithiasis is presented to alert surgeons to the possibility of such a lesion. We describe the clinical course and review the literature.

6/28. A cavernous haemangioma of the thyroid gland.

    Haemangioma of the thyroid gland is extremely rare. We report a case of a cavernous haemangioma of the neck that was located both inside and outside the thyroid gland of a 21-year-old man. ultrasonography of the neck revealed numerous calcified nodules. Computed tomography (CT) showed a large calcified soft tissue mass in the right lobe of the thyroid. Based on the imaging findings a papillary thyroid carcinoma was suspected, but examination of the surgical specimen revealed a huge cavernous haemangioma containing numerous phleboliths.

8/28. Hepatocellular carcinoma: MR appearance mimicking cavernous hemangioma.

    A case of hepatocellular carcinoma is reported in which a calculated T2 value of the tumor was exceptionally long and differentiation from cavernous hemangioma based on T2 signal intensity was difficult. Pathologically, the mass consisted of dense, homogeneous acinar formation (pseudoglandular type). The T2 prolongation of the mass was probably due to abundant fluid in the acini.

9/28. Ultrasound and CT findings in two cases of hemangioma of the adrenal gland.

    The ultrasound and CT findings in two patients with hemangioma of the adrenal gland are presented. Ultrasound showed large masses with heterogeneous nonspecific structural pattern. Unenhanced CT demonstrated lesions with hypodense centers and thick irregular peripheries with higher density. A few small peripheral calcifications were noted in one patient. Following contrast medium injection, patchy enhancement of the peripheral zone of the tumor was seen in both cases.

10/28. Cavernous hemangioma of the lacrimal fossa.

    A 56-year-old woman presented with proptosis of the left eye for over 1 year. The clinical presentation and computerized tomographic scan findings were consistent with a benign mixed lacrimal gland tumor. An extensive excision of the tumor was planned through a lateral orbitotomy with bone flap. After construction of the bone flap, the clinical appearance of the tumor was not consistent with a benign mixed lacrimal gland tumor. Frozen section pathology was interpreted as cavernous hemangioma. A simple excision of the tumor with preservation of the lacrimal gland was performed. It is emphasized that benign mixed lacrimal gland tumors require extensive excision to prevent recurrence. However, other tumors may have a similar clinical presentation, as in this case, and the surgeon must consider this possibility prior to performing radical surgery.
