1/35. Occlusal rehabilitation using implants for orthodontic anchorage.osseointegration is defined as a direct interaction of bone to an implant surface. As a result, the implant fixture is immobilized in the bone and lends itself to function as an anchor for orthodontic tooth movements. When properly treatment-planned, these implants can also be used as prosthodontic abutments for single crowns, or removable or fixed partial dentures. This article describes how implant fixtures were surgically placed within the maxillary and mandibular arches of a partially edentulous patient, and used for orthodontic anchorage to reposition the remaining teeth into a more favorable arch position, creating increased posterior interocclusal space. 2/35. Short and sticky options in the treatment of the partially dentate patient.As we move into the twenty-first century, patterns of dental disease in adults are changing. Surveys of adult dental health indicate that more people are keeping their teeth for longer in life. In many cases, the ravages of dental disease and the cumulative effect of a lifetime of restorative dentistry lead to gradual tooth loss. For many of these patients, restoration of a complete dentition may not be feasible nor desirable. In recent years, functionally oriented treatment planning has become acceptable in light of recent research findings. Using this approach, treatment efforts and resources are directed principally at retaining the 'strategic' part of the dentition in the long term, ie, the anterior and premolar teeth. This paper describes, with the aid of treated cases, a means of combining a shortened dental arch strategy with resin bonded bridgework. 6/35. Bone dynamics of osseointegration, ankylosis, and tooth movement.Masticatory function challenges the strength and adaptive capability of supporting bone. When osseous tissue is loaded, it accumulates fatigue damage which must be repaired by bone modeling and remodeling. The three principal masticatory abutments (normal teeth, ankylosed teeth and osseointegrated implants) are a dynamic physiologic continuum relative to bone biomechanics. Implants are rigidly integrated units that can only be moved by fracturing the interface. Normal teeth and some ankylosed teeth can be moved using implants for orthodontic and orthopedic anchorage. Because orthodontic translation generates new bone and attached gingiva, it is a form of tissue engineering. Overlay removable partial denture therapy was used as an alternative to other options such as orthodontics and combined orthodontic/oral surgery procedures; it satisfied the esthetic and functional requirements of the patient and provided a stable occlusion. Immediate implant placement and provisionalization in edentulous, extraction, and sinus grafted sites.The incorporation of restorative procedures during implant placement, as well as during the creation of natural emergence profiles and lifelike ceramic restorations, has become the focus of implantology over the last few years. Recent publications have provided guidelines for success with the immediate restoration procedure and have presented basic surgical protocols for the implant team. Enhancement of the healing phase through the local delivery of growth factors to the surgical site, as well as through advancements in bone grafting materials, has allowed the implant surgeon to accomplish multiple surgical procedures during the initial surgical visit. In addition, advancements in surgical stent designs have allowed the restorative dentist to adequately communicate to the surgeon during surgery the parameters required in the final restoration to replace the natural tooth system with form, function, and esthetics. This article presents the results of more than 400 immediate restored implants placed in edentulous sites, fresh extraction sockets, and sinus grafted sites.
