1/11. Intraglandular toxoplasmosis lymphadenitis of the parotid gland.

toxoplasmosis is a protozoan infection manifested by systemic findings as well as generalized or localized lymphadenopathy. Although lympadenitis is the most common clinical form, involvement of the intraglandular nodes within the parotid gland found is a rare occurrence during the course of the disease. This unusual form may mimic a parotid mass, and can cause difficulties in differential diagnosis. In this article, a case of intraglandular parotid lymphadenitis which developed due to toxoplasmosis is presented, and the relevant literature is reviewed.

2/11. Acquired toxoplasma lymphadenitis.

toxoplasmosis is a common parasitic infection that is widely distributed throughout the world, including the united states. Its occurrence in the oral cavity, however, is uncommon. This report concerns a case of toxoplasmosis that manifested as an intraoral lymphadenitis in a 14-year-old white girl. The etiology, clinical, microscopic, and laboratory findings, and treatment are reviewed. The importance of recognizing lymphadenopathy as a clinical sign of this disorder is discussed.

3/11. Identification of a toxoplasma cyst by fine-needle aspiration.

In the course of evaluating the fine-needle aspiration technic a toxoplasma cyst was identified in a lymph node excised from a patient in whom toxoplasmosis subsequently was confirmed serologically. This is the first reported case in which a cyst was identified by this method. The recognition of a cyst and characteristic cytologic features in the aspirate demonstrates the utility of fine-needle cytologic examination in diagnosing toxoplasmic lymphadenitis.

4/11. An outbreak of toxoplasmosis on an illinois farm.

Two siblings residing on a farm in illinois were concurrently hospitalized with cervical lymphadenitis. Clinical and serologic evidence indicated that the etiology of the lymphadenitis in each case was toxoplasmosis. The simultaneous occurrence of two cases of toxoplasmosis in a household prompted a prospective investigation of 11 other immediate family members for evidence of disease. During the next month seven of the other family members developed serologic evidence of acute toxoplasmosis. Four of these seven individuals were symptomatic. Investigation of the family's home environment failed to unequivocally identify a common source of infection, but epidemiologic evidence suggested that this outbreak was related to contact with sick cats.

5/11. Localized lymphadenitis due to leishmania simulating toxoplasmosis. Value of electron microscopy for differentiation.

Two cases of cervical adenopathy are described. One manifested as lymphoma clinically. Both patients were found to have primary lymph node leishmaniasis without cutaneous, mucosal or visceral involvement. The histologic appearance simulated toxoplasma lymphadenitis. Electron microscopic study differentiated the organism from toxoplasma, and the condition responded well to antimony therapy.

6/11. toxoplasma cyst with toxoplasmic lymphadenitis.

A toxoplasma cyst and the distinctive histopathologic changes of toxoplasmic lymphadenitis in a non-immunosuppressed patient with acute acquired toxoplasmosis are described. This is the third reported case in which the cyst form of toxoplasma has been observed in nodal tissue, and the first to be confirmed by electron microscopy.

7/11. Acquired toxoplasmic lymphadenitis with demonstration of the cyst form.

Acquired toxoplasmosis usually is diagnosed serologically. Specific histologic criteria allow for the recognition of this disease in lymph node sections. However, toxoplasma cysts are rarely seen in nodes. The lymph node from a 15-year-old male with asymptomatic lymphadenopathy was found to have typical histologic features of toxoplasmic lymphadenitis. toxoplasma cysts were identified and specific serology was confirmatory.

8/11. Kikuchi's lymphadenitis in qatar.

The clinicopathologic features of five cases of Kikuchi's lymphadenitis (histiocytic necrotizing lymphadenitis without granulocytic infiltration) occurring in qatar are presented. There were three females and two males aged from 18 to 36 years with a mean of 29 years. Three were Indians and two were Qataris. Cervical lymph nodes were affected in all cases while one patient also had inguinal and femoral lymph node enlargement. Three patients achieved complete remission within three months. The differential diagnosis both clinically and histologically, included malignant lymphoma, toxoplasmosis, tuberculosis, leprosy, yersinia and viral infections. To avoid errors in diagnosis, especially that of malignant lymphoma, attention must be paid to the location of the lesion, composition of the cellular infiltrate and the typical fibrinoid type of necrosis in the background.

9/11. Congenital toxoplasmosis transmitted from an immunologically competent mother infected before conception.

Congenital transmission of toxoplasma gondii from a mother who was apparently immunologically competent and who had toxoplasmic lymphadenitis 2 months before conception is described. Since no T. gondii-specific serological data were available for this mother from the time her lymph node biopsy specimen was obtained, the specimen was studied by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) to determine whether the T. gondii B1 gene was present. The predictive diagnostic value of histologic findings previously considered to be classic signs of T. gondii lymphadenitis also was studied. This was done by correlation of serological tests diagnostic of acute acquired T. gondii infection and presence of characteristic findings in biopsy specimens from persons without known immunocompromise. Both PCR and review of the characteristic features of her lymph node biopsy specimen confirmed the diagnosis of preconceptual infection in the mother. We also discuss two other cases in which apparently immunologically competent mothers with preconceptually acquired infection transmitted this parasite to their fetuses.

10/11. Kikuchi disease (histiocytic necrotizing lymphadenitis) in association with HTLV1.

We report a 25-year-old male with fever, generalized lymphadenopathy and an erythematosus maculo-papular eruption affecting face and upper body. A diagnosis of Kikuchi disease (necrotizing histiocytic lymphadenitis) was made on lymph node histology. The patient was found to be positive for the human T-cell leukaemia lymphoma virus (HTLV1). Kikuchi disease has been reported in association with infections such as Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), herpes (HHV6) and toxoplasmosis, but to our knowledge this is the first case of Kikuchi disease associated with HTLV1.
