1/7. rhinosporidiosis presenting with two soft tissue tumors followed by dissemination.

rhinosporidiosis is caused by rhinosporidium seeberi. Most mycologists believe that R. seeberi is either a Chytridium related to the Olpidiaceae (order Chytridialis, class Chytridiomycetes) or a Synchytrium. This is the first documented case of tumoral rhinosporidiosis in a Sri Lankan and the third documented case in the world literature. A 44 year old male presented with a large mass above the thigh and a similar mass over the anterior chest wall, both masses contained R. seeberi. Later examination of the patient revealed nasal polyps, confirming that the tumors were due to systemic spread of this infection.

3/7. rhinosporidiosis in egypt: a case report and review of literature.

rhinosporidiosis is an infection caused by rhinosporidium seeberi that frequently presents as a polypoidal nasal lesions. Here, we report the first indigenous case of tumoral rhinosporidiosis in egypt. In this case, a 25-year-old male patient from a rural background of Assuit City presented with epistaxis and a nasal polyp. The patient had not traveled abroad. The diagnosis was established on the morphological basis by the identification of 5- to 10-microm endospores and 50- to 1000-microm sporangia. The clinicopathological and immunologic features were discussed and the literature was reviewed. To the best of our knowledge this is the first case of this disease to be reported in egypt in the human literature.

4/7. rhinosporidiosis: ultrastructural study of an infection in south carolina.

We have morphologically described and ultrastructurally analyzed rhinosporidium seeberi, the causative agent of rhinosporidiosis, obtained from a nasal polyp of a man who had never traveled to india or Ceylon. The morphology, endosporulation phases, and cell wall were similar to those in previously described infections. A common etiology is suggested and potential therapy is discussed.

6/7. Rhinosporodium: case report.

This is the first reported case of rhinosporidiosis in Ibadan, nigeria. A review of literature shows that the patient came from northern nigeria where the first case was reported in the country. The organism is difficult to culture and the diagnosis was based on microscopy and histological examination of the polyp. We present the case of recurrent rhinosporidiosis in a 16 year old girl a year after polypectomy in Zaria, northern nigeria.

7/7. Severe epistaxis from rhinosporidiosis: a case report.

rhinosporidiosis is quite rare in thailand, but the actual incidence may be higher than the numbers reflect. This is thought to be due to misdiagnosis by physicians who are unfamiliar with this disease entity or physicians who found a case but did not describe its presence. The authors report a case in a 17 year old male with the lesion involving both nasal cavities, nasopharynx and left maxillary sinus presenting with severe epistaxis, which was treated by complete surgical removal with electric cauterization of its base. We warn physicians who face this problem to be aware of this disease entity.
