1/9. Glomangioma in the nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses.

The glomangioma is a hyperplastic lesion of the glomus body. This uncommon tumor is seldom located in the nasal cavity or paranasal sinuses. We present what is to our knowledge the eleventh documented case of an intranasal glomangioma. The differential diagnosis of this lesion, its symptoms, pathogenesis and therapy are discussed. Complete excision is normally curative for this tumor.

2/9. Glomangioma of the nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses.

The glomangioma, a benign vascular tumour, derived from the cutaneous glomus bodies, should not be confused with paragangliomas, which are occasionally also referred to as glomus tumours. Up to now, only eleven cases of a glomangioma of the nasal cavity and the paranasal sinuses have been published. We report the case of a patient with a glomangioma of the ethmoidal aircell system. The tumour was completely removed under endoscopic-microscopic vision via endonasal access. A tumour recurrence was not observed over a period of eighteen months. The clinical signs, diagnosis, therapy and histological features will be discussed with reference to the literature.

3/9. Glomangiomyoma of the nasal cavity.

glomus tumor is a rare neoplasm that typically occurs in soft tissue of the extremity, particularly the subungual region of the finger tip. It rarely occurs in the nasal septum. Glomangiomyoma is a rare histologic variant of glomus tumor. The authors describe a case of glomangiomyoma of the nasal septum that presented as nasal obstruction. The histologic, immunohistochemical, and electronmicroscopic findings are described. The otolaryngologist and surgical pathologist should be aware of such an entity, and should not confuse it with the totally unrelated glomus jugulare tumor, or paraganglioma of the middle ear.

4/9. Malignant glomus tumor: a case report and review of the literature.

Glomangiosarcoma, or malignant glomus tumor, is a very rare neoplasm that when seen typically arises from a benign glomus tumor. Despite having histologic features of malignancy, these tumors usually do not metastasize. However, when metastasis occurs this disease is often fatal. We report a case of a malignant glomus tumor arising de novo on the nose of an 89-year-old white woman, and we review the literature concerning glomangiosarcomas.

5/9. Intranasal glomangioma.

Glomangioma is a benign tumour of the glomus body. It is a relatively rare tumour in the head and neck region and even rarer in the nasal cavity. We present the 13th documented case of an intranasal glomangioma. A 56-year-old woman presented with a lesion on the nasal septum associated with intermittent nasal pain and epistaxis. Local surgical excision was not only diagnostic but therapeutic as it effected a cure. Intranasal glomangioma has no well-defined presenting features but must be borne in mind as a possible rare cause of nasal pain and epistaxis. We also briefly review the clinical presentation, histology and management of such a rare tumour.

6/9. Recurrent epistaxis from an intranasal glomus tumor: the 22nd case report.

The case of a 66-year-old Thai woman who was treated at King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital due to recurrent epistaxis for two years is presented. Her physical examination revealed a 0.7-cm tumor mass on the right nasal septum. A biopsy was subsequently done and the tissue was sent for pathological examination. The lesion was then diagnosed as "glomus tumor of the nasal septum". Histologically, the tumor was rather well-circumscribed and located in the submucosal region. The neoplastic cells were uniform, round to ovoid in shape and contained bland-looking, finely chromatic nuclei and moderate amount of cytoplasm with ill-defined cell borders. These cells were intervened by tortuous vascular structures. Immunohistochemically, the tumor cells were strongly reactive to smooth muscle actin and negative to cytokeratin and S-100 protein. A glomus tumor is rare in the sinonasal region. So far, there have been only 21 reported cases in the literature. Almost all cases of sinonasal glomus tumor are benign and are usually cured by complete excision.

7/9. Intranasal glomus tumor.

The glomus tumor, or glomangioma, is a hyperplastic or hamartomatous lesion of the glomus body. It is composed of vascular channels surrounded by characteristic "epithelioid" cells, which are probably derived from smooth muscle. Glomus tumors rarely occur in the head and neck. We encountered the fifth documented case, to our knowledge, of a glomus tumor presenting in the nasal cavity. Although the lesion in this case was asymptomatic, intranasal glomus tumors producing nasal obstruction, pain, and epistaxis have been described. The complete excision of a glomus tumor normally cures the condition.

8/9. Aggressive glomus tumor of the nasal region. Report of a case with multiple local recurrences.

We describe a locally aggressive glomus tumor that occurred in the nasal region of a 32-year-old woman. The neoplasm recurred six times over a period of 14 years following the initial excision. This aggressive behavior resulted in problems with the diagnosis of the neoplasm. Although grossly cystic, the tumor contained large areas with a solid growth pattern and exhibited an infiltrative margin. There was no cytological atypia, mitoses were scanty, and necrosis was absent. The neoplasm did not metastasize.

9/9. Case report: glomus tumour of the nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses.

Glomus tumours are relatively rare in the head and neck. We present a glomus tumour of the nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses in a 55-year-old man and describe the CT appearances of this tumour and its histopathology.
