1/4. Concomitant renal and prostatic aspergillosis.

aspergillosis limited to the urinary tract is a rare disease seen most often in patients with altered immune status. Only 19 cases of renal aspergillosis including 3 with AIDS and 4 cases of isolated prostatic aspergillosis have been reported. We report the first case of concomitant renal and prostatic aspergillosis in a non-immunocompromised patient who presented with pyrexia of unknown origin and with dysuria. The diagnosis was based on the demonstration of characteristic hyphal elements on direct microscopy and isolation of the fungus in the culture of pus from the kidney. In view of obstructive prostatic enlargement and left non-functioning renal mass, transurethral resection of the prostate and left nephrectomy were performed in a single session with successful outcome. The aetiopathogenesis and brief review of the literature are discussed.

2/4. Sclerosing adenosis of the prostate.

A 76-year-old man with frequency, dysuria, and urinary incontinence underwent a transurethral resection of the prostate. On microscopic examination, three prostatic chips had a proliferation of irregular crowded acini, small nests, and single cells within a cellular stroma, which created an infiltrative pattern that was though by some observers to represent carcinoma. The acini were lined by columnar, and focally, by basal (myoepithelial) cells; the latter were more clearly demonstrated with immunoperoxidase stains for cytokeratin and S100 protein. In our opinion, the lesion represents a rare variant of benign prostatic hyperplasia analogous to sclerosing adenosis of the breast.

3/4. Benign prostatic hypertrophy in a young male.

A 20-year-old male with complaints of dysuria and a sense of residual urine was diagnosed as having benign prostatic hypertrophy. He was treated by suprapubic prostatectomy. Benign prostatic hypertrophy in young men is very rare; this case seems to be the largest (380 g) among juvenile benign prostatic hypertrophy reported in the literature so far.

4/4. Ectopic prostatic tissue outside the urinary tract: a case report.

A 64-year-old man with a 4-month history of dysuria and urinary frequency had a mass behind the bladder. The preoperative diagnosis was a tumor of the left seminal vesicle, but a histologic examination revealed benign prostatic tissue. This is the seventh reported case of ectopic prostatic tissue situated outside the urinary tract.
