1/9. rhinosporidiosis presenting as recurrent nasal polyps.

rhinosporidiosis is a chronic granulomatous disease of the mucous membrane, predominantly of the nose and nasopharynx. It is uncommon in malaysia but has been seen in immigrant workers from endemic areas like india and sri lanka. A case seen in Johor is reported here to highlight the need of awareness among clinicians at a time where there is increasing numbers of immigrant workers in our country. The causative organism of this disease is rhinosporidium seeberi, which is found in stagnant waters. sporangia and endospores of R. seeberi are seen in the granulomatous polypoidal lesions. The patients commonly present with epistaxis and nasal blockage. Complete excision is the treatment of choice for this disease. Recurrences are common despite anti-microbial treatment.

2/9. Lacrimal sac rhinosporidiosis: a case report.

rhinosporidiosis is a disease caused by rhinosporidium seeberi. It usually affects the nasal mucosa and rarely the conjunctiva, lacrimal sac, tonsils, and skin. We present a case study of an isolated lacrimal sac rhinosporidiosis in an 8-year-old girl who was a migrant from Orissa, an Eastern coastal state of india. The mode of presentation and management of this case with a review of literature is discussed in brief.

3/9. An erosive mass involving the nasal cavity and maxillary sinus: rhinosporidiosis.

rhinosporidiosis is a chronic granulomatous inflammatory disease of the mucous membranes caused by rhinosporidium seeberi. The disease is endemic in india, but is very rare in other countries. A review of the literature shows that our patient is the second documented case from turkey. Involvement and erosion of the anterior wall of the maxillary sinus as in this case is very rare. A 47-year-old-male is presented with the clinicopathological features and transmission of the disease is discussed.

6/9. Metastatic rhinosporidioma in a child.

rhinosporidiosis is a chronic granulomatous disease caused by rhinosporidium seeberi. It commonly affects nasal mucosa and conjunctiva. Subcutaneous disease is unusual and it is often mistaken for soft-tissue sarcoma. Such tumoral rhinosporidiosis has never been reported in children. This report describes, for the first time, an 11-year-old girl who presented with nasal polyp and multiple metastatic swellings of rhinosporidial origin. Fine-needle aspiration cytology and histopathology were diagnostic. Surgical excision, followed by dapsone therapy, was found to be useful.

7/9. Polymorphic cutaneous rhinosporidiosis.

rhinosporidiosis is a chronic granulomatous condition caused by rhinosporidium seeberi primarily affecting the mucosa of the nose, eyes and sinuses. The patients usually present with nasal symptoms and skin involvement is uncommon [1-3]. Here, a patient with nasal rhinosporidiosis having two different morphological types of cutaneous lesions of rhinosporidiosis, coexisting at the same time and at the same site, is reported. The diagnosis was confirmed by FNAC (Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology) and skin biopsy from the skin lesions. To the best of my knowledge, such an unusual occurrence has not been reported earlier in literature.

8/9. rhinosporidiosis associated with squamous cell carcinoma in the tongue.

The peritumoural region of a squamous cell carcinoma of the tongue when examined with light and electron microscope showed nodular bodies in the submucosa with all the distinctive features of 'sporangium and 'spores' of rhinosporidiosis. The occurrence of rhinosporidiosis in the tongue along with malignancy has not been reported hitherto. Some interesting observations and causal relationships are discussed.

9/9. infection of the conjunctiva by rhinosporidium seeberi.

rhinosporidiosis is an unusual fungal disease that rarely affects the eye. It was first described as a pathogen in humans at the turn of the century. The etiologic agent, rhinosporidium seeberi, commonly produces granulomatous inflammation of the upper respiratory mucosa. Most reported ocular infections have occurred in hot, dry climatic regions. We present a case of conjunctival rhinosporidiosis in an 11-year-old boy from western new york state, the first such report from the temperate zones of north america. The clinical characteristics, histopathologic features, and recommended therapeutic measures are discussed.
