1/3. Acute torsion and necrosis of the greater omentum herniated into a foramen of Morgagni.

    Computed tomography is mandatory in the investigation of the acute abdomen and can provide the physician with crucial information to decide whether the patient should be treated surgically or conservatively. An unusual cause of acute abdomen is presented. Computed tomography suggested the diagnosis of omental torsion and necrosis. At surgery, the greater omentum and part of the transverse colon were incarcerated in a small diaphragmatic hernia of the Morgagni type.

2/3. Acute appendicitis presenting as acute hemiscrotum in a boy.

    A 6-year-old boy presented with diffuse abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting followed by features of acute scrotum. Laboratory and radiological evaluation suggested presence of infective pathology in the inguinoscrotal region. Surgical exploration revealed patent right processus vaginalis with purulent collection resulting from the presence of perforated tip of appendix in the hernial sac. appendectomy with drainage of scrotal collection and ligation of hernial sac resulted in satisfactory recovery.

3/3. Abdominal pregnancy following total hysterectomy.

    This paper reports a case of ectopic abdominal pregnancy following total hysterectomy and reviews the literature. pregnancy following total hysterectomy is a rare event. Ectopic pregnancy following supracervical hysterectomy can be explained in view of the remaining patent cervical canal. In cases of total hysterectomy (abdominal or vaginal) two important factors to be considered are the persistence of a fistulous tract from the vaginal apex to the peritoneum and the prolapse of the fallopian tube into the vagina, creating a patent tract for spermatozoa. As long as some ovaries remain, the possibility of ectopic pregnancy must be entertained in the differential diagnosis of acute abdomen in a female.
