1/3. Stenosing tenosynovitis of the flexor hallucis longus tendon at the sesamoid area.

The author presents a case of stenosing tenosynovitis of the flexor hallucis longus tendon at the sesamoid area of the great toe following injury of the hallux. Although stenosing tenosynovitis of the flexor hallucis longus tendon is not rare, occurring frequently in ballet dancers, its entrapment at the sesamoid area was rarely described in the literature. Early recognition of this condition is very important for successful treatment. This patient did not respond to nonoperative treatment and surgical tenolysis was very successful for relief of the symptoms.

2/3. rupture of the flexor hallucis longus after hallux valgus surgery: case report and comments on technique for adductor release.

A case of flexor hallucis longus (FHL) rupture following hallux valgus surgery is reported here. The authors conjecture that the FHL rupture was caused by a partial laceration of the FHL at the time of the surgical hallux valgus correction. The authors treated the painful problem by surgically debriding the distal stump of the FHL from under the first metatarsophalangeal joint (MP) and tenodesing that the proximal stump to the flexor digitorum longus (FDL). The authors describe a technique that minimizes the complications of an adductor tenotomy associated with a distal chevron type of hallux valgus correction.

3/3. Bilateral hallux saltans. Report of a case.

A case of bilateral hallux saltans in a 13-year-old girl is reported. The signs and symptoms were a tender nodule behind the medial malleolus and a "trigger toe" as well as pain radiating up the lower leg. Operation revealed thickening of the flexor retinaculum superficially to the flexor hallucis longus tendon which showed compression and proximal thickening. Resection of the retinaculum afforded a satisfactory result.
