1/8. Acute infection with trichophyton rubrum associated with flares of atopic dermatitis.

trichophyton rubrum has been implicated as a potential trigger in flares of atopic dermatitis. We describe a patient with atopic dermatitis who presented with a history of multiple flares and concurrent acute tinea pedis and onychomycosis. Symptoms of atopic dermatitis and culture-positive acute infection with T. rubrum resolved during each flare using systemic antifungals. Flares of atopic dermatitis may be triggered by acute T. rubrum infections. Antifungal therapy should be considered in these patients.

2/8. Allergic contact dermatitis from ciclopirox olamine.

A 50-year-old man with interdigital tinea pedis developed an allergic dermatitis spreading from the toes to the lower shins. patch tests were strongly positive to ciclopirox olamine 1% pet. Sensitization to this topical antifungal agent has rarely been reported in the literature.

3/8. asthma, rhinitis and dermatitis triggered by fungal infection: therapeutic effects of terbinafine.

We report 2 atopic patients suffering from tinea unguium caused by trichophyton rubrum. In addition, both patients had symptoms of allergies: one had perennial rhinoconjunctivitis and bronchial asthma, the other had chronic dermatitis of the face and neck. In both cases, their allergy symptoms improved dramatically during oral therapy with the antifungal agent terbinafine (250 mg/day) and relapsed after its discontinuation.

4/8. Autosensitization dermatitis associated with propolis-induced allergic contact dermatitis.

propolis is a beehive product known for its anti-inflammatory properties. With its growing use, propolis-induced contact dermatitis is increasing. While the dermatitis mostly occurs on areas directly exposed to propolis, our case presented an additional eczema at a site distant from the primary propolis-induced contact dermatitis twice in the same individual. We diagnosed it as an autosensitization dermatitis associated with propolis-induced allergic contact dermatitis.

7/8. Allergic contact dermatitis from pyoctanin.

Although pyoctanin is widely used in medicine, there are hardly any reports of contact allergy to it. Most reports of side-effects refer to irritant reactions after topical application. We describe 2 patients who developed pyoctanin contact dermatitis after long-term application on damaged skin. Positive patch test results down to concentrations of 0.0025% and 0.05% aqueous pyoctanin solution, respectively, were found.

8/8. Pustular allergic contact dermatitis to isoconazole nitrate.

The topical imidazole antimycotics are widely used and are an infrequent cause of contact allergy. We report on a woman, who developed an unusual clinical picture of allergic contact dermatitis, namely papulo-pustular reaction, evoked by an isoconazole nitrate-containing cream. The histopathologic changes included subcorneal pustules, spongiosis, and an inflammatory infiltrate composed mainly of lymphocytes and some eosinophils and neutrophils. The patient demonstrated a severe vesicular reaction to isoconzole nitrate as is and at an imidazoles concentration of 0.5%. No cross-reactivity with other imidazole antimycotics was noted.
