1/13. necrobiotic xanthogranuloma associated with choroidal infiltration and syncytial giant cell hepatitis.

A 31-year-old woman developed necrobiotic xanthogranuloma (NXG), a thickened choroid, and syncytial giant cell hepatitis, a previously unreported association. NXG and syncytial giant cell hepatitis may have a common autoimmune pathogenesis.

2/13. Xanthogranuloma of the choroid plexus of the third ventricle: case report and literature review.

Xanthogranulomas of the choroids plexus (XG) are benign tumours of debatable etiology which become rarely symptomatic. Only few cases have been studied with MRI. A new case of xanthogranuloma of the third ventricle showing unusual features in the CT and MRI studies in a 47-year-old man with a 2-month history of gait and urinary disturbances and cognitive impairment is reported. The literature concerning clinical and neuroradiological presentation of intracranial xanthogranulomas is reviewed.

3/13. Symptomatic xanthogranuloma of choroid plexus with unilateral hydrocephalus. Case report.

Xanthogranulomas involving the choroid plexus of the lateral ventricles are generally asymptomatic lesions. The case is reported of a 50-year-old man in whom a xanthogranuloma of the choroid plexus had occluded the left trigone, causing unilateral hydrocephalus of the left temporal horn and neurological symptoms. A review of the literature shows that xanthogranulomas of the glomus of the lateral ventricles differ from the xanthomatous cystic lesions of the third ventricle, which are probably akin to colloid cysts.

4/13. Xanthoma of the choroid plexus: a case report during gestation.

Xanthomas of the choroid plexus are rare lesions of the central nervous system. The scarcity of reported cases probably accounts for the little information available about their origin, growth and spread. In the present article, we report the case of a 17 week old fetus with a xanthoma of the choroid plexus. The tumor extended from the trigone of the right lateral ventricle into the inter-hemispheric fissure, a defect at the junction of the splenium with the cerebral hemisphere. The size of the xanthoma suggested a time to double-size of a few days and an inception in the second month of gestation. The case illustrates the potential rapid growth of these tumors during gestation and a route for their spread outside of the ventricles.

5/13. Xanthogranuloma of the choroid plexus of lateral ventricle, presenting with parosmia and parageusia.

Xanthogranulomas of the choroid plexus are usually asymptomatic. We present a short case report of a 60-year-old male whose symptoms of parosmia and parageusia have been relieved following surgical removal of a xanthogranuloma situated in the right lateral ventricle. Previous case reports and correlation of symptomatology and pathology are discussed.

6/13. Symptomatic xanthogranuloma of the choroid plexus of the third ventricle. A new case with ultrastructural study.

The clinicopathological findings in a new case of a surgically removed, symptomatic xanthogranuloma of the third ventricle are reported. Ultrastructural study showed that the lining epithelium of the tumor was composed of typical leptomeningeal cells, and that transitional forms from leptomeningeal cells into xanthomatous cells were present in the underlying fibrous capsule. These findings support the hypothesis of a leptomeningeal origin of the foamy cells in the present case. The ten cases reported previously of symptomatic xanthogranuloma of the third ventricle are reviewed. We suggest that xanthogranulomas of the choroid plexus might represent a heterogenous entity arising from xanthomatous changes involving various types of cells.

7/13. Xanthogranulomas of choroid plexus.

Computed tomographic features of xanthogranulomas of the choroid plexus are presented. The characteristic location of bilateral intense homogeneously enhanced masses with central lucencies is thought to be diagnostic of xanthogranuloma of the choroid plexus.

8/13. Xanthogranuloma of the third ventricle. Case report.

The case history of a patient with a xanthogranuloma of the third ventricle is presented. This type of lesion formed by desquamation of epithelium is usually noted as an incidental autopsy finding in the choroid plexus of the lateral ventricles. Total removal via a transcortical transventricular route led to complete recovery. These tumors should be suspected in the geriatric population. The computerized tomography findings and a review of the literature are included.

9/13. Posterior fossa xanthogranuloma. Case report.

A large subdural xanthogranuloma was removed from the posterior fossa of a 53-year-old woman with symptoms of hand-Schuller-Christian disease. Two additional masses with similar density on computerized tomography were found in the hypothalamus and in the choroid plexus of the right lateral ventricle.

10/13. Neuroradiologic aspects of Chester-Erdheim disease.

In three cases of histologically proved Chester-Erdheim disease there was a large anterior epidural lesion from C-3 to L-2 in one patient; dural masses and orbital infiltration in a second patient; and dural, choroid plexus, retroorbital, and hypophyseal lesions in a third patient. diabetes insipidus, exophthalmia, long bone lesions, and retroperitoneal infiltration were present.
