What will the hospital stay be for abdominal hysterectomy?

I'm 29, having an abdominal hysterectomy next week. I am having this due to a large fibroid on my uterus. My insurance isn't the best, so I'm sure I am going to have a lot of money invested in this. I have read that most people are in the hospital for 2 nights. Will there be anyway I will only have to stay for one night? If I am doing fine, will I have this option?
----------

I had an abdomial hysterectomy 13 months ago. I was there for 3 days, but it was because they were afraid that I was going into pneumonia. I tend to breathe shallow. There is a yahoogroup for women who were or already had a hysterectomy and they were soooo helpful. They were so sweet and gave out alot of tips. I had two grapefruit size fibroids and then they said that there were smaller ones. What was really cool tho, my doctor took a pics of them for me. Everyday after surgery you get better and better. I didn't go back to work for 10 weeks. So don't go back too soon. Hospital food hasn't changed much. It's bland the first day. After that I loved the pudding, and popsicles. It is so nice not having your period anymore. Now mine was a total. I have her take everything out, so this is a decision between you and your doctor. But I figure, I am 50 at the time, and if I left my overies that what happens if they go bad and I had to go back in for surgery. I wasn't going to do that. Did your doctor talk to you about maybe trying to shrink them first?

Also, I have never in this year have any symptoms of menopause. I was very lucky. I don't take anything at all. I take vitamins from GNC, and make sure you keep up on your calcium okay. If you want to email me with questions, I would be happy to talk to you.  (+ info)

What is a good diet to loose abdominal fat?

I am looking for a diet that will help me loose abdominal fat! I am a heavy soft drink person and I am trying to quit. What are some beverages that I can drink to help with the diet?
----------

find calorie/fitness calculator on the net, enter your stats, take 300-400 calories off that number and that's how much you need to lose weight.
5-8servings of fruit and veggies a day
8 glasses of water a day
5-6 small meals instead of 3 big ones (breakfast is the most important - make sure to get complex carbs like whole wheat bread, oatmeal, fruit etc)
4-6 times a week cardio for 30-50min, light weight training, many reps
no junk food, no sodas, no alcohol, no white flour (cakes, cookies, white bread, pasta etc.), nothing high in sugar (ice cream)  (+ info)

How do you know if you have abdominal pain or just a stomach ache?

When my tummy hurts, I don't know whether it is a stomach ache, a pain in the tummy or abdominal pain.
----------

This is easy, you divide your abdomen. Your abdomen from the belly button down could be uterus and ovaries. Belly button down and only lower right, appendix. Abdomen and upper right(ones own right) under rib cage, could be gall bladder. After you eat, if you get any burning and any regurgitation could be too much acid in your stomach. Try not sitting down at least 1-2 hrs after eating.

Also gallbladder pain comes more often after you eat greasy foods, fried foods.

Overall see a doctor to see what is going on. You may need antacids, or something for heartburn etc.

What are exercises that work the lower abdominal muscles?

I have an almost flat stomach, and I'd like to make the lower abs a little bit tighter. I a lot of sit-ups as it is, but they don't seem to be targeting my lower abs. What are some exercises that will help to tighten my lower abdominal muscles? (And possibly my waist?)
----------

Hi,

Reverse crunches strengthen the lower abdominals.
Lie on your back, hands flat on the floor. Knees bent, raise your legs up as far as you can. Lift your bottom off the floor if you can, then slowly lower legs.
Repeat for 25 repetitions. Do 3 sets.

Don't forget to strengthen ALL of your abdominals for the best effect.
Upper abs= normal crunches/sit-ups.
Obliques (sides)= bicycle crunches, which is elbow to opposite knee.

To tighten the waist, do side bends while holding 2 dumbells.
Lean to the left, hold, then the right. Slow and controlled.

Good luck.

What are the risks of having a full abdominal hysterectomy?

Today, my mom is having a full abdominal hysterectomy. She is going through menopause and her period consistently wouldn't stop. She became anemic from all of the blood loss. I was just wondering what are the risks of having this procedure and what are the steps in doing this?
----------

i had a colon resection, which involves a similar incision. i spent five days in hospital. my sister had a hysterectomy thru her vagina last january. recovery time was much faster than incisional. can your mom do that? the recovery time for me and my 15 inch incision was a solid six weeks. abdominal surgery recovery was painful! i was on major pain killers in the hospital. i even had a pump to inject meds for pain.  (+ info)

What causes sudden hearing loss with periods and abdominal pain?

I experience sudden hearing loss and vision loss when I have sudden menstrual cramps (Dysmenorrhea). This also happens when I experience abdominal pain related to diarrhea or constipation, which sometimes happens right before my period starts. Sometimes the GI system and the uterus are both affected at the same time.

When I lose my hearing, all I hear is ringing, and everything turns bright, unless Im in a dark hallway. Indoors, I cant see. I think my pupils dilate and the blood flow to my ears constricts. What causes this?

There could be a number of possibilities going on such as endometriosis (just using endometriosis as an example only) but the only way to know for sure what is going on is to see your doctor for further evaluation of the situation to see what they think could be going on.  (+ info)

I need an exercise plan to strengthen my abdominal muscles, one that I can do at home?

I want to build my abs. What kind of exercise should I be doing to target my core body, and how many times a day? I am already thin enough so I don't need diet or weight loss tips.

I want to achieve noticeable abdominal muscles by the beginning of July. Is there a way I can do this in 5-6 months?
----------

If you do not already have one, purchase a stability ball and do weighted crunches on the ball, and also do corkscrews, planks and side planks. Stop at you local bookstore for books on abdominal training and functional strength training or do some internet research for further details. Yes, you can accomplish a lot in 5 or 6 months.  (+ info)
