Does the company Hask Placenta harm animals to get the placenta for their product?

I've been using their stuff for a while now, and I LOVE it. But, ust recently, I've started to actually wonder how they get the placenta from the animals. Is it safe and healthy, or are they actually killing the animals or harming them to get it?
Please help me figure it out!
If theyre harming them, I'm definately not buying anymore.
----------

I imagine if they were selling the stuff they would need to keep the supply flowing which would sort of imply they are forcibly impregnating animals and harvesting the placentas.  (+ info)

When did bleeding happen or start for those who have had low lying placentas?

What are some mom's experiences of bleeding with low lying placentas. I am 28 weeks and have had no bleeding, but am wondering if I may still start to bleed in this last trimester.
----------

Bleeding can start as early as the 24th to 26th week, though it is more common during the last 4 or 5 weeks. This is a common symptom for those with low-lying placentas or placenta previa.

As the lower portion of the uterus stretches and dilates during the later weeks of pregnancy, portions of the placenta may be torn from their attachments to the wall of the uterus. This leads to bleeding in variable amounts, ranging from light to profuse.

But you must be aware that any vaginal bleeding during pregnancy is NOT NORMAL, so you should quickly report it to your physician.

The doctor may give you an ultrasound image of your abdomen to locate the placenta. In most cases of placenta previa, the placenta will be covering part if not all of the opening of the cervix.  (+ info)

What complications are there if trisomy 13 is found but confined to the placenta?

I know all the terms like patau syndrome and mosaicism just being in the placental tissue. I'm not looking for a definition or explanation of how or why it happens. I am trying to figure out what complications it can present.I know the baby is fine and its just mosaicism in placenta.

One complication is a stillbirth - another complication is IUGR  (+ info)

What are the effects of a curled placenta?

I just found out that my babies placenta is curled and my doctor told me not to worry to much because there is only a slight chance it can effect the baby.. but i would like to know some of the effects, Ive tried searching the web but couldn't find much.. I would realy appreciate anything you have to offer, thanks.
----------

Circumvallate placenta occurs in 1-2% of pregnancies. This type of extrachorial placental configuration is characterized by raised and folded edge of the chorionic membrane at the transition of membranous-to-villous placenta
Circumvallate placentas are clinically relevant, as they have a demonstrable association with antenatal complications including bleeding and preterm labor, so you might be monitored cloesely, but there seem to be no harmful effects for your baby other than you might deliver early.  (+ info)

What are the proper medical procedures after delivery and how soon does the placenta need to be delivered?

My sister just had the worst experience at a hospital after her baby was delivered by nurses and there was no doctor present. She was told to keep her legs open in the delivery position until the doctor finally came (15 minutes later) to help deliver the placenta. She is running a fever and on antibiotics as well as baby who also has jaundice. Could this have been prevented?

when i had my daughter the midwife delivered my placenta, she gave me an injection just after i delivered i prob did have to lie there for a while.  (+ info)

Is it true alcohol does not affect the baby until placenta takes over?

I am worried about drinking during my pregnancy since I found out at 12 weeks. My dr said something about the yolk sac and placenta although I can't remember exactly so I did some research and found out that the yolk sac provides nutrition until 9-12 weeks and then the placenta takes over and that's when the baby ingests what you do. Is this true?
----------

It is, but I think the alcohol still hits the yolk sac, maybe just not as much.  (+ info)

Is it possible to have a vaginal birth when the twins are sharing a placenta?

My twin boys are sharing a placenta, and I was wondering if this would rule out having a vaginal birth. I know normally the chances of having a vaginal birth for twins is 50%.
The placenta is at the top of my uterus, so position is not a problem. Just not sure if the placenta would come loose when the first baby is born? Or would it stay attached until the second baby comes?
----------

Less likely. This is because of the higher death rate of twins sharing a placenta. This is a truly higher risk and I could understand a doctor who recommended C-section in this instance. If your twins are roughly the same size, you may very well be able to have a vaginal birth. However, in many cases, one is getting more nutrient than the other and it isa potential problem at the birth. Sharing a sac would be fairly life threatening.

The 50% rate is mostly based on doctor convenience. The only gals who have vaginal births with twins have doctors that aren't harping on them every visit to schedule a c-section.  (+ info)

is it advisable to have sexual intercourse during the period of placenta previa?

i'm now on 17th week and doctor mentioned about lower placenta, however also said they would monitor it for further weeks since it is likely to move up. First of all, does sexual intercourse aid in vaginal delivery / birth and how far sexual intercourse is advisable during the period of baby held in lower placenta?
----------

There is a huge difference between a low-lying placenta and a placenta previa as far as treatment. In a complete placenta previa, you should not have any sex at all, as doing so can cause severe bleeding, and also you can not deliver vaginally because this causes a separation of the placenta from the uterine wall during delivery and this cal kill the baby and cause hemorrhaging in the mother. If it is just a low-lying placenta that is not covering the cervix in any way, then you can continue to have sex right up until your water breaks so long as there are no other complications throughout the pregnancy.  (+ info)

As soon as the placenta has formed there is some amount of transfer across it from mom's blood to baby's blood (oxygen, etc).

Also most of the damage from fetal alcohol syndrome happens before 12 weeks because that's when the organs are forming.

http://alcoholism.about.com/cs/fas/f/fas_faq12.htm
The pattern and timing of prenatal alcohol use can greatly influence the impact of adverse effects on the fetus. Chronic drinking and binge drinking are recognized as the most dangerous patterns of drinking. The pattern of drinking will partly determine the effects of alcohol on a fetus during the first weeks of pregnancy.

Many body parts and organs are developing in the embryonic stage which is weeks 3 to 8. It is known that during the first 4 weeks of pregnancy, when most women are not aware that they are pregnant, the heart, CNS, eyes, arms, and legs of the fetus are developing. Also, different developing organ systems may be more vulnerable to damage at different stages of development.

http://aje.oxfordjournals.org/cgi/content/abstract/123/2/270
Average daily consumption of 10 g of ethanol (about one drink) in the week prior to recognition of pregnancy is related to a decrease in infant birth weight of 225 g, after adjustment for gestational age, sex of child, and maternal age, weight, height, pregnancy weight gain, social class, gravidity, and parity. In addition, consumption of this amount in the week before first prenatal visit is related to a comparable decrease in birth weight for male but not for female infants. These findings suggest that risk of decreased intrauterine growth begins very early in pregnancy, and that fetal response to later alcohol use may vary with sex of the child.  (+ info)

23wks w/ placenta previa, when does the dr start to schedule c-section if it doesnt move up?

im 23wks with placenta previa. i had this since my 16wk ultrasound. they said it has to move like 2cm. i have another ultrasound at 25wks.
i had an ultrasound at 21wks btw and it hasnt moved at all. at which ultrasound does the dr. begin to schedule the c-section?
----------

They will do another ultra sound after the baby turns to the head down position. Around 36-38 weeks. If its gonna move, it'll move then. If not then they'll schedule the c-section.
You are just a little more than 1/2 way through your pregnancy, that baby could turn 1000+ times before its time to be overly concerned about a c-section.  (+ info)
