Can a person have Acanthosis nigricans in there face?

Like in cheeks is soo can i see a picture

please help its for a project i cant find answers anywhere
----------

Yes, it is not rare to see that occur on the cheeks, especially in darker skinned ethnic groups. I'm sure that you can tap into the files of the dermatology department of Univ of Iowa, or Mayo Clinic, etc, for a picture of it. Many dermatology departments have a large library of skin disorders that will let you download pictures.  (+ info)

Does Acanthosis Nigricans ever fully go away?

The patch used to be much darker but now it's fading but will it ever fully go away completely? Is there a treatment or product that makes it go away?
----------

Sometimes Acanthosis nigricans passes away completely when the underlying condition like diabetes Mellitus or obesity is fully controlled for about 2 years. This complete success is seen in a very small percentage.
Continue the applications given by the doctor under his supervision. Continue the treatment of the disease which is associated with the skin condition; for example diabetes mellitus.

The blood sugar should be kept at , fasting 100 mg / ml of blood for at least 2 years continuously.
I have personally seen success with my son in law.

Is there anything worse than having hereditary Acanthosis Nigricans?

1) It has no cure.

2) You cannot hide it.

3) It makes your skin look as if it were very, very dirty in parts like the elbows, knees, underarms, neck, etc.

It's a repulsive thing that cannot be cured or hidden. It makes dating nearly impossible. Who wants to go out with someone who appears to have his or her (btw, it's more common among women) underarms and elbows covered in mud?

Is anyone out there feeling as miserable as I do over it?

better have that than having AIDS or birth marks on your face colored black and hairy...  (+ info)

Do You think I have acanthosis Nigricans?

I went to the doctors about 5 months ago with a condition I've had since I was about 12.
I get brown scarring below my breasts under my arms and around my neck.
I went to the docs who told me I had Pitriasis Versicolor and suggested selsun I must admit I only tried it about three times but I got impatient and now they say I've got Acanthosis Nigricans.
BUT I'm not extremely over weight and my insulin level is normal.
And when the affected area is wet if I scratch it lots of dead skin comes off.
And my breasts have very flakey skin almost like severe dandruff I think this Is Pitryaisis versicolor not Acanthosis Nigrican what do u think??
----------

diabetes is just one of the causes of Acanthosis Nigrican.
You doctor may have diagnosed you with this because he thought the selsun didnt work on the Pityriasis. Did you tell your doctor you didn't use it as was fully recommended? If he assumed you used it correctly and to the entire length of time, it may look to him like your symptoms didnt respond to treatment.

Of course i don't know your medical history so i can't say for sure what you have. If you really feel that the diagnosis is wrong, you should tell your doctor and ask for an alternative treatment for Pityriasis, as i have read that there are several treatment options.

From my reading and your descriptions it sounds as if you are describing the pityriasis Versicolor, which is basically a complex yeast infection of the skin. Pressure your doctor to pursue another treatment, possibly read up on the treatments of it and mention a treatment you would like to try. Don't be afraid of being persistent with your doctor. The doctor's goals are to get patients in and out as fast as possible and this may make them overlook certain details.

Acanthosis Nigricans is a skin condition which affects the skin of the neck, groin, abdomen or under the arm pits. This is commonly associated with high insulin levels, obesity, and diabetes mellitus.
Sometimes it is associated with cancer of the stomach and some endocrine disorders.
It does not disappear with local applications or drugs taken internally. But such applications may improve the appearance.
If the underlying disease is sufficiently treated Acanthosis may completely disappear.
Local applications like Retin-A cream may improve the appearance.Other applications are 20% urea and some creams containing alpha Hydroxy acids and salicylic acid.

Another method of improving the appearance is Laser Resurfacing.
There are many references in the internet and I have selected two sites for you. Do not apply any creams other than those containing the above without medical advice

Could acanthosis nigricans be a sign that I'm diabetic?

I've had a dark discoloration on my neck since I was 11 and I need to know if it could be a sign that I'm a diabetic because diabetes runs in my family.
----------

Yes it can be as Acanthosis nigricans is a skin condition characterized by dark, thick, velvety skin in body folds and creases. Most often, acanthosis nigricans affects your armpits, groin and neck.

With acanthosis nigricans, you may naturally be concerned about the appearance of your skin. Some steps may help lighten the affected areas of your skin. There's no specific treatment for acanthosis nigricans — but treating any underlying conditions, such as diabetes and obesity, may cause the changes in your skin changes to fade.

Acanthosis nigricans is often associated with conditions that increase your insulin level, such as type 2 diabetes or being overweight. If your insulin level is too high, the extra insulin may trigger activity in your skin cells. This may cause the characteristic skin changes.

In some cases, acanthosis nigricans is inherited. Certain medications — such as human growth hormone, oral contraceptives and large doses of niacin — can contribute to the condition. Other hormone problems, endocrine disorders or tumors may play a role as well. Rarely, acanthosis nigricans is associated with certain types of cancer.
