acanthosis nigricans?

I have acanthosis nigracans and i know you cant get rid of it by cream, but i was wondering if there is anything i can put on it to help. and also when the back of my neck gets warm i start to get these bumps on the back of my neck that itch. i was wondering if the bumps have got anything to do with acanthosis nigricans.

also why does acanthosis itch? does yours itch?

The primary aim of treatment is to correct the underlying disease process. Often correcting the underlying cause results in resolution of the lesions.

Correct hyperinsulinaemia through diet and medication
Lose weight with obesity-associated AN
Excise or treat underlying tumor
Stop offending medicines in drug-induced AN
In hereditary AN, lesions tend to enlarge gradually before stabilizing and/or regressing on their own.

There is no specific treatment for AN. Treatments considered are used primarily to improve cosmetic appearance and include topical retinoids, dermabrasion and laser therapy.

I am planning on losing 72 pounds....cause i am very fat...but if umm i lose all this weight will my Acanthosis Nigricans take off?
Losing weight by eating healthy should help reduce the circulating insulin and decrease it quite a bit..
You will have to eat a balanced diet, whatever you are eating now is causing you to have too much circulating insulin..
If it still continues when you have lost the weight, then you will want to have another check up done to check for other causes.
If there's nothing else wrong, your doctor can prescribe salicylic acid creams to remove the outer layers of skin to reduce the appearance of it..  (+ info)

Acanthosis nigricans is a skin condition and I simply cannot go on with it skin gets darkened in the ply areas of the skin i am overweight and i got my test results back its Insulin resistance its not a tumor hope anyone can help i'm kinda desperate
you know, I have the same exact problem.
I have insulin resistance therefore I have acanthosis nigricans.

it is embarrassing, luckily mine is easily covered.

I'm not sure if there is any cure or treatment for it except to fix your insulin resistance.

I have lost about 40 pounds now. I am currently 193 lbs. I have dark brown spots on my elbows, knees, and around my neck. I am very sure that it is acanthosis nigricans. DOes anyone know if this will fade if I continue to lose weight. My doctor said I am prediabetic. I have been exercising regularly and eating a diet low in sugar and starches. What makes you sure you have Acanthosis nigricans? Were you diagnosed by a dr? It usually causes velvety, light-brown-to-black, markings usually on the neck, under the arms or in the groin. Acanthosis nigricans is most often associated with obesity.

Eating too much of the wrong foods, especially starches and sugars, can cause insulin resistance. This will result in elevated insulin levels. Most patients with acanthosis nigricans have a higher insulin level than those of the same weight without acanthosis nigricans. Elevated levels of insulin in most cases probably cause acanthosis nigricans. The elevated insulin levels in the body activates insulin receptors in the skin, forcing it to grow abnormally.

Reducing the circulating insulin by dieting or medication can lead to improvement of the skin problem.

If you have Acanthosis Nigricans you need to get tested for diabetes. Type 2 can be symptomless for years, until it damages your body so much that the complications start.

Ask your doctor to do an HbA1c test, and a Glucose Tolerance Test too.

In the meantime, cut back on sugar and refined flour products. Try the South Beach diet, its low carb and should help, but you still need to get tested because diabetes and pre-diabetes are not something you can ignore or treat on your own.

Depends, if you have this disorder due to insulin resistance than it might be a little unhealthy. If you're insulin resistant, you're going to want to stay away from sugars and carbs since your body can't break them down as easily due to your insulin; and then it will cause high ketone levels and secrete itself through your urine. So if you urinate frequently, that is a sign. So be careful.  (+ info)
