How can I get rid of this clogged sweat gland, or at least make it stop being itchy?! It's not a boil. Thanks!?

ok so I've had this bump the size of a quarter between my shoulder blades for almost a year. It constantly itches but when I showed it to my Dr. He just shrugged and carelessly went on to say "It's just a clogged sweat gland, it's nothing serious but it will never go away." So I ask him. "What can I do to stop the itching? What do you mean it will NEVER go away?! Can't it be lanced or something??" He replies, "Well some people get them to pop but I'll warn you it stinks like hell. Oh and it will just come right back" No answer on how to stop the itching. "!!!!!" Can anyone tell me how do I get this thing to stop itching and or get it to go away? It's under the skin, every now and then a very thin hair will grow out of what looks like an opening but it's not. it's not red, it's not scaly, it's just a hard itchy bump under my skin that's driving me insane. I don't know if it matters but I am diabetic so it may be a symptom or something. But the itching is driving me bonkers!
----------

It appears that your doc was not very helpful on this matter. Most of the time, these things eventually work their way to the surface of the skin, pop open, and drain, so it makes sense that a doc might dismiss this as unimportant. However, if this thing has lasted nearly a year and is causing itching, it's not unimportant. Sometimes the fluid dries up and forms a semi-permanent cyst - this appears to be your situation.

Once a hardened cysts forms, the only treatment is surgical removal or waiting years for it to go away. Removal is pretty minor surgery that can be performed by a dermatologist in the office. You could make an appointment with a dermatologist to see what can be done.  (+ info)

Is there an alternative way to treat an infected sweat gland than with antibiotics?

My GP today told me that I had an infected sweat gland in my armpit and although he prescribed Co-fluampicil, he told me to wait for a couple of days to see if it goes down by itself (as they usually do) and ONLY of it gets worse then to use the antibiotics. He wasnt really keen on I taking the medicine being 22 weeks pregnant (nor am I) So I am wondering what would be the best way to home treat these? Warm compress? Salted water? I have had it in the past and it usually goes by itself but this time, its slightly larger than usual. Thanks
----------

Warm saltwater compresses are recommended, and after drying, dabbing on povidone iodine solution also helps.  (+ info)

How do I avoid getting clogged sweat glands in my feet?

My foot was bothering me, with something on my heel. I first thought it was a planter's wart, but my podiatrist said it was a clogged sweat duct. He fixed it, but didn't have any suggestions for me on how to avoid them going forward. I've read that cotton socks are better. Is that true, and any other suggestions?

Regards.
----------

yes! it is better to use 100% cotton socks!  (+ info)

Are the sweat glands in your armpits the same as in your groin area?

I am having an odor down there....the smell is not pleasant but I can't tell if it's sweat or an infection. Should the smells that come from my armpit when I sweat resemble the ones in the groin? Are they the same type of sweat glands. PLEASE help, how can I tell if the smell is from sweat or not!
----------

No, they are not entirely the same. And very easy, get a magnifying glass and check. Apply cornstarch to your groin area to keep it dry. Never put anything scented on it, or you can develop boils. Keep the area dry and clean.  (+ info)

When you wax your underarms some sweat glands are removed?

My friend told me that her older sister let her underarm hair grow out for a while, then waxed it, and said she hardly ever sweats now because sweat glands are ripped out in the process. True or false?
----------

Never heard that before but the wax does probably
penetrate the pores and clean em out. Also when you get a
professional service like this you feel good about yourself:
I deserve it, I got it, I feel I'm caring for myself. It's possible she
just feels more confident/calmer/happier/and it sweating less!  (+ info)

sweat gland problem?

My daughter (34) has complained about this problem for a long time. She does not sweat alot, but she said her under arms smell like a skunk smell. No laughing, please, she's very clean. She's even embarressed to ask the doctor about this. Could it be a bacterial problem?
----------

It's Bromhydrosis.
Most people only shower once daily, so try telling her to shower twice. If there's not a sweat problem, i'm not sure what to say other than strongly perfumed deodorant.
But there are anti-perspraints if she sweats also. If she works out alot or is active, she may just have to freshen up and carry a small container of deodorant with her when she goes.  (+ info)

Is there a cure for overactive sweat glands in the hands and feet?

I saw a doctor years ago who gave me a lotion to put on at night but it wasn't effective. Sometimes I am fine but other times I sweat incredibly - it creates a lot of uncomfortable situations and I would really like to find a solution.
----------

Put some tea in a bucket. Let cool and soak for about 30 min. The stuff in it helps make ur sweat glands smaller.

How can i stop overactive sweat glands?

Anytime i put on deoodorant (usually degree clinical strength) sweat just runs down my arms. I work in an office where i don't work up any sweat and it still just drips like im playing in a Game 7 of the NBA Finals.

I've heard that Drysol does the trick but i don't have insurance to get a prescription for it. What else can i use to stop this?
----------

External deodorants don't last long as they are displaced by the secretions through your pores.

Liquid chlorophyll is an internal deodorant that deodorizes your body odors before they are secreted through your pores. It also has a cooling effect so you will perspire a bit less. A table spoon of high strength liquid chlorophyll every morning is all you need.  (+ info)
