how long can you live once the hiv turns into aids?

Over the course of a year there have been many opportunistic infections going on, drs were treating him for normal pneumonia never detecting hiv or aids, while treating him for the normal pneumonia the symptoms never got any better, now diagnosed as aids he has a viral load of 42,964 and a cd4 count of 6. They did put him on Atripla and hes been on that for 2 weeks. My question is can he pull out of this or did they catch it too late? Just doesnt seem to be getting better..
A CD4 count of just 6 is extreamly low... anything below 200 is considered bad and means that you have been declared as having AIDS.

I don't know what the chances are with a CD4 of 6 as it just seems too low... 6 means his immune system is virtually shut down.

It should be the other way round... your CD4 should be high and your viral load low as possible... ultimatley you want the viral load to be "undetectable"

Viral load = How much virus is in your body, lower the better.
CD4 = How many T cells = how good your immune system is. Higher the better.  (+ info)

Johnson the Health Secretary now appears to have wakened up to the fact that the chief executive of a hospital trust has a responsibility to ensure that the highest possible standards of cleanliness are maintained in the hospitals that they are in charge of. If he and his predecessors had done the job which they were supposed to do but obviously were so incompetent at this problem would have been as rare as it is in Fench and German hospitals.

My famiy and I are always getting sick with uper respitory infections, could this be mold related?

It definitely could... here's my experience. My husband and I lived in an apartment for about 14 months, and after about 6 months or so, mold started showing up everywhere on the walls. We could not keep it away. We would clean and scrub it away, and the next day, it would start to come back again... anyways, my husband, who NEVER gets sick, started to have a stuffy nose and cough up stuff all the time. I also started to have shortness of breath and my throat hurt a lot... this continued for months and months. We never suspected the mold. Anways, fast forward to us moving out of the apartments, and moving to a house. A clean house with no mold. We were amazed! My husband's symtoms cleared up within a week, and I started breathing easier within a few days. We realized it must have been the mold. Later we found out that the complex is being sued by residents for the huge mold problem there...

There were approx. 940,000 people with HIV in russia in 2005. Im not sure about the current numbers. Its not pandemic it affecting mainly intravenous drug addicts and heterosexuals (homosexulas account for about 1% of infected individuals). It has a very high rate of new infections though so the numbers are probably much higher now.  (+ info)

To be pedantic, Pneumocystis carinii has been renamed Pneumocystis jirovecii, although the old name is still sometimes used.
