.......Alopecia?

I recently found out that one of my friends has alopecia. I was just wondering if it was only temporary.
----------

It depends. There are three types of alopecia: areata, universalis, and totalis.Totalis you lose all your body hair. Universalis you lose your hair from your head & face. Areata you lose your head hair in patches. Alopecia is an auto immune disease where your white blood cells attack the roots of your hair and kill it.. It's like being "allergic" to your hair. Her hair MAY grow back. It depends. it is not contagious and does not affect her health in any way. I have a friends whose sister has it. A lot of people don't know about this auto-immune disease. Please tell people not to make fun of people with this condition. It is NOT cancer. never try to pity your friend either. Please be a supportive friend. BTW we don't know what causes Alopecia, but it could be stress, pressure, or rosiola virus. Her hair may come back, but for now don't count on it. Don't judge her. Hope this helps. Good luck to you and your Friend!! :)  (+ info)

Does alopecia areata have anything to do with asthma or allergies. Can i heal alopecia areata any way?

I am 12 almost 13 and in seventh grade and have had alopecia since the summer before third grade. I am really sick of having it and i have lost it fully a couple of times and a little several times. I am desperate of getting rid of alopecia so if you could tell be if there are any cures for it and if it is related to astma and alleriges or stress. Any other information would also be greatly apreciated.
----------

Sweetie, I wish there was a cure- heck from what I have read they don't even know what causes it. I was diagnosed about 2 years ago, thankfully I have only had spots. I did the steroid injections and it helped me. People kept telling me it was stress, but there was no new stresses in my life, so I don't believe that.

Keep your chin up, educate people about it.

Are you totally bald?  (+ info)

What are the reasons and cure for alopecia?

I have come across many cures on alopecia but still I am not convinced. Do these cures needn’t be effective on everybody? Does one need to first consult his/her Doc? Some cures are really scary; the impact would be on one's hormonal imbalance. Can anybody, who is an expert in this field, advice me on this?
----------

having been in the hair buisness for 30 odd years i have seen a lot of alopecia in all ages both male and female ,
the cause seems to be stress related ,being put under pressure in many different ways you might not be aware or show outward signs of this but your body can and does so in different ways .the scalp normally pales in the affected area .
the hair can return in your natural colour but usually returns white but it always comes back, doctors are grasping at straws for a cure with no success . so no cure but yourself, so unwind and take life as it comes without any pressure on yourself.
hope this helps  (+ info)

How long does it take for alopecia to heal after starting wheat-free diet?

I have alopecia areata. I've read reports that people with alopecia have reversed their hair loss by following a wheat-free/gluten-free diet. I'm willing to try it, but I'm wondering how long of a trial would be a fair test. How long did it take for YOUR hair to grow back after starting a wheat free diet? I'm looking for first-hand experiences here, please don't just drop a URL--I've already read a lot on the web. Thanks.

My bro managed to find a website called http://www.ALOPECIA-AREATA-CURE.com when he had the same problem that explains about the condition and suggests treatment. He gave it a try and to all our surprise he recovered.

Its quite informative. You might want to give it a try. Wish you a quick recovery  (+ info)

Will a hair transplant get rid of areata alopecia for good?

I have areata alopecia at the top of my head in two spots. If i were to get a hair transplant in those two spots would i no longer have areata alopecia?
----------

If you have tried other conservative measures such as Minoxidil or finasteride and they are not successful, hair transplant is an option to cover the bald spots, but the areata alopecia condition will still be there. Several transplant sessions may be needed. The decision to go for hair transplant is expensive, and poses some risks such as infection and scarring. If you decide to go ahead, be sure to choose a good doctor. There is this article about the side effects that you may encounter after undergoing hair transplant. You can read this article at this link

What hair products are safe with alopecia areata?

My mom has alopecia areata and is currently undergoing treatment but I am wondering if certain hair products (shampoos, dyes) are considered to affect hair regrowth?
----------

if i had this problem i would wash my hair in the purest soap form possible and that would be something called Green Soft Soap which might be available in chemist or pharmacy...with your Mom already taking medication i would avoid heavy chemical hair products for the moment....i have an old book and it says that for hair restorers there is a choice of lavender, lime, nasturtium, nettle and thyme so maybe you could ask at a Herbalist or Health Food store/shop and see what they have got there for hair...hope this helps..s  (+ info)

I have alopecia and why does my hair grow back when I get mad and yell?

I have alopecia in spots and when I yell, it starts growing the roots. What is wrong with me?? What is the cause of it then?
----------

the exact cause of alopecia is not known but it has a very definite relationship with stress, however, most people lose their hair with stress, you are the only only who get his hair back with stress. a dermatologist may be helpful to you but I wouldn't expect much  (+ info)

When suffering from alopecia - will dying your hair make for a greater hair loss?

I am 26 years old and have dyed my hair since I was 16. I recently was diagnosed with alopecia. Can i still dye my hair or will that make more hair fall out? I currently have roots that i wanted to touch up but am afraid I'll lose more/all of my hair!
----------

Dying your hair shouldn't make more hair fall out. (I have had alopecia since I was 12 - off and on... now, just on) If the hair is going to fall out, then it will fall out. The process of dying your hair may even help. If the dye is irritating to your scalp, it may direct the immune cells to your scalp instead of your hair follicles. Thats how many topical treatments work, however, they are used daily, not just once.  (+ info)
