Since Alopecia areata is incurable, what do i do bout my hairline?

i hate my hairline, i have hair falling which will lead to bald spots which i cannot stand.
i dont want extionsions either.

will coconut oil help?
----------

My sister had it when she was stressed out for about 6 months and then all her hair grew back. Consider getting a wig if it is that bad. I really feel for you this is a terrible thing to happen to a woman.  (+ info)

What do alopecia areata and hormone imbalance have in common?

if I remember correctly, alopecia areata tends to be a male only disorder, rarely found in women, and passed on genetically (though perhaps men could get it due to an imbalance, but something tells me that it's probably a rare occurance). However, there are instances where an imbalance of hormones can cause patchy baldness or extreme thinning, many times this is associated with pregnant women due to the insane rollercoaster that their hormones ride during and after pregnancy. Essentially it disrupts the growth phases of the hair, it's usually temporary, but it can last in some cases well beyond the first year of having a child.

If you're very concerned about hair loss (for instance if your hair is thinning or falling out), see your doctor and check your family history. Usually for men it only takes one genetic male member to pass down the gene, for women I believe it takes having two members of close, immediate family (no further back than grandparents usually) to cause this. For example, I will likely retain my hair thickness because only my father's side of the family carries that particular trait in females, whereas if my mother's side also did, I would likely have to be watchful for signs of thinning.

Hope that helps a bit!  (+ info)

Is it possible to get permanent tatoos on my shaved head to cover up my alopecia areata?

Not really a wise move, it will look very odd! Also most cases of alopeciaq areata are temporary anyway.  (+ info)

I would like to know more about Alopecia Areata?

I found 2 large round bald spots under my long hair
Am I going to lose all of my hair?
Or will it stop here?
Is there a cure? Is there anything I can do to stop the rest of my hair from falling out?
Thank you candy! I appreciate it!
----------

All of your hair may not fall out. This is a condition that affects the immune system. My son-in-law had it and this is what the doctor told him. This condition can last from 6 months to a year. Reason for this is unknown, but can be stress. It will come out in round spots like that. Your hair will come back but like I said it could take that long as I stated above. All he done for him was give him something to rub on his head and high doses of prednisone. I really don't think it helped him, to tell you the truth and all of this costed about 300.00 for he did not have ins. and I paid for all of it. But it did take about a year for him and all of his hair came back. Also this can re-occur at anytime in your life. I believe this condition is inherited. So don't worry, for your hair will come back, it just may take that long. Good Luck to you, and by the way, that was about 5 years ago that it happened to him, and it has not happened again yet.  (+ info)

I was just diagnosed with Alopecia Areata is there A chance I might Get Lupus?

I know the two are related to autoimmune disease, and I tested negative for Lupus but is there a chance I can still develop Lupus? or does it not work that way?
----------

No not necessarily at all. They are two different autoimmune disorders. Alopecia is pretty treatable and curable so don't worry. They will give you a steroid cream and if that doesn't work, injections.

Good luck:)  (+ info)

alopecia areata symptoms does it affect baby during pregnancy ?

alopecia areata symptoms does it affect baby during pregnancy ?
Question Details: i have a friend she is 23 years old she started to loose her hair in may she is almost half bald she has alopecia areata a hair loss disease she is really worried now she just found out she is pregnant and she is 2 months, she has been to the doctor and take her medications but now she is worried because she thinks her baby will have no hair or it will have the same disease as her please help!!! my friend wants some answers
----------

To my understanding of the disease is they don't know much about it. There is a website your friend can go to about it and they have support groups. Follow this link http://www.naaf.org It does seem to be hereditary but that doesn't neccessarily mean her baby will get it. Though I know it's hard but she should try not to stress over it because stress can make this disease worst and a support group may help her deal with the stress. I don't envy her pregnancy can be a stressful time especially in her shoes. I hope this info is helpful to her and I wish her and her baby the best.  (+ info)
