How do i know what color base i need when i purchase the dye to mix with developer? Neutral Base, Violet Base? I have no clue about Brown Hair Dyes. Also is it even parts of Dye to Developer?

I want to get blond streaks for this summer. I know that the sun will do that but it doesn't always work for me. Do you know of any products that will do that. I am naturally a darker blond but I want to get it a little lighter.
Use Sheer Blonde shampoo and conditioner and that will bring out your natural blonde highlights.
Put lemon juice in your hair and lay out in the sun for 2 hours... then get your hair wet... then reapply the lemon juice and lay out for another two hours and so on
That works great and it makes your hair blonder

I have bleach blonde long hair and would like to put some light brown/dark blonde streaks in to break the colour up a bit. Is there any way of doing this at home, to make it look natural?? I can't afford the hairdressers and am worried about blobs of brown going on the blonde because i'd have to do it myself. Or should I just leave it?

Like another commenter said, exfoliate and shave before you put any self-tanner or gradual tanner on. It applies the color better without making it patchy.

Also, when you apply, try not to use your fingers. Instead, use the palms of your hands (it seems a bit difficult but you get used to it.) The gaps between each finger is what makes it streaky.  (+ info)

What are your best tips for application, maintainance, and most of all, how do I get rid of streaks AFTER they set in?
Exfoliate first, focus on elbows, ankles, and knees especially.

When you're applying keep your fingers together, thats the best way to avoid streaks. Also try and find a type of tanner that shows the color when it is applied (not one that is white or clear) so you can see if you miss spots. But definitely keep your fingers together. You'll be streak-free. Spray sunless tanner works great, too, but you'll still have to rub it in, so again, keep your fingers together.

To maintain it, buy some of that build-a-tan lotion. I know Olay has a good gradual glow lotion that isn't as strong as full-on sunless tanner.

To get rid of streaks try and shower ASAP and exfoliate the area. This will remove the top layer of skin cells and even out the tan.

I also recommend not putting sunless tanner on your entire foot. Try and lightly get the tops only and be careful around your toes! Also be careful with your knees and elbows, go as lightly as possible.  (+ info)

Im dying my hair soon, and I want streaks. Im going for kind of a punk-ish emo look. I have dark brown hair, so I was thinking getting blue streaks. Do you think I should, or I can also dye it multi colors?
blue fades really fast. and doesn't really work with dark brown.
i know from personal experience.
green fades into a really ugly color.
but dark purple with dark brown is amazing.
and violet works too.
