How many days would be considered "late" for finding out i have appendicitis?

I've been having pains on the right side of my stomoch since Friday 11/23. It started out near by belly but moved. I suspect that i might have appendicitis and im going to the doctor tomorrow but im afraid i have discovered it late. What would be considered "late" and what would considered early?
----------

you do sound like a casebook case of appendicitis......if left too long, you risk rupture {or burst as someone said} and this can lead to peritonitis {a very bad infection}. if this happens, you usually have fever, vomiting and really miserable. if you start to develop any of these, don't wait for your doctor....he is likely going to send you to the ER anyway....just go! but to answer your question.....there is no set amount of day to be "late" in finding out.....everyone is different....you may be fine, or not....but why risk it?  (+ info)

Can appendicitis pain be felt more on the side of the body than just between the hip and navel?

I've felt nauseous for about 7 hours, and now I feel a kind of pain on the right side of my body, it's around the same level as my bellybutton, but on my side. Sometimes it feels closer to the typical location for appendicitis, but it's hard to pinpoint. Would I know by now if I had appendicitis?
----------

Appendicitis generally starts around the naval area. Before moving the the lower right quadrant.

A good way to tell appendicitis is by doing a rebound test.
Place your hand firmly on the lower quadrant where the appendix is located.
Press firmly.
Let go.

If the pain intensifies AFTER letting go, then it's off to the ER you go.
If it intensifies when you push, I would make a Doctor's appointment if you are concerned. Or you become worse.

If you start to experience, vomiting, fever, and are not improving I suggest the ER.  (+ info)

Can you have appendicitis if you dont have nausea and vomiting?

My right lower abdomen hurts when I urinate and walk but I am not sick to my stomach and I am not vomiting. Is it appendicitis or maybe is it menstral cramps? I am due in a week or so. The pain never moved it has been in the one spot the whole time.
----------

it could be. i had the same thing and all the doctors thought that i had appendicitis but it turned out that i have a disease called colitis. i was doubeled over in pain and had to hold my side when i walked. but usually it starts near your belly button. get it looked at!  (+ info)

Is it true that your chances of having an appendicitis drop significantly after a certain age?

I thought that once you get out of your teenage years, that you pretty much won't have an appendicitis anymore. So what's the deal with Bret Michaels? He's 40-some years old. How the heck did he have one???
----------

it can happen at any age but it is usually when you are young but i was 55 when mine was removed. or it would have killed me  (+ info)

Generally how do they figure out if you have appendicitis?

What do they do to figure out whether you have it? And if you do, before surgery, do you have to have a physical or anything? If so, what do they do? I just want to know, I have a really bad pain in my right side, and i was wondering how they figure out if it's appendicitis and what they do for it. THanks.
I'm afraid of doctors that's why i'm curious.
----------

The most specific physical findings in appendicitis are rebound tenderness (when you push down on the area, it doesn't hurt as bad as when you let up after pushing), pain on percussion (place your hand on the area and tap the back of your hand), and rigidity of the right lower quadrant of the abdomen. As everyone else has said, they will likely draw a blood panel (though the physical exam is much more important, because the blood panel changes could come from any part of the body. Also, they will surgically remove the appendix if it is inflamed. The surgery has become very advanced, so there will be little to no scarring and minimal pain.  (+ info)

How risky are surgeries for appendicitis?

My dad just found out he has appendicitis. However, he is in a VERY primitive hospital in Malaysia. How risky are these surgeries in general? I'm very worried about the lack of knowledge and supplies for the hospital he's in.

I had it my family has had two people that had it and it was a pretty easy thing.
Safe also. I HAD MY OPERATION 50 YEARS AGO.  (+ info)

How long does it take to recover from surgery? Specifically appendicitis?

My sister had appendicitis (She's 9) and she just had surgery. We love to go to Disneyland together, but we're afraid that if we go on any crazy rides, her stitches would burst. How long do you think we should wait until it's totally safe?

Also she has recently had blood coming from her bottom when she poops. This is scaring her, but she really doesn't want to tell our parents. Anyone know if this is really dangerous and if we should tell and go see a doctor?
----------

She should be quite safe to go to Disneyland about a week after the stitches are removed- but the question really should go to her doctor for the recommendation. You wouldn't want to go while she still has stitches, no. As far as the blood when she goes to the bathroom- that sounds like a small hemorrhoid or a tear. You really do need to let your parents know about that. It could just be from constipation after the surgery, and her straining to go has caused a small tear, which would heal on it's own if matters get some relief. Your parents will know best how to help with that. It's not dangerous, as in causing death or serious illness- but it is something that needs to be taken care of before it becomes a big problem. Just tell your parents. It's embarassing, but nobody dies of embarassment. And your parents already know where all the birthmarks and freckles are, so they aren't likely to curl up and croak from hearing about this.  (+ info)

Can appendicitis form if the ascending colon is disturbed?

If feces move up the ascending colon and if I bother it by pressing on it, will gravity pull the food down to the cecum base and into the appendix opening? Will this cause appendicitis?
----------

that seem highly unlikely  (+ info)

Does appendicitis pain come on gradually or all of a sudden?

For the past two days, I have had sharp intermittent pains in my lower-right abdomen. I know pretty much nothing about appendicitis and am wondering if I might just be in an early stage (where it hasn't actually ruptured yet). To those of you who have had it, did it come on gradually or just appear all of a sudden? If it was a gradual thing, how long before you realized it was time to see a doctor? Thanks in advance.
----------

well for about two months i went back and fourth to doctors but they said that it was fine the sent me to a gyno when he saw me he asked to get the results from the previous well turns out you couldn't see it. it was twisted up which made it invisible the pain wasn't a constant thing though in some cases it can be for me it was like a sharp pain that would sorta hit me go to your doctor get it checked out its not something to mess with  (+ info)

Abdominal pain has decreased significantly over the last day, could it still be appendicitis?

Friday night I had tons of pain in my stomach area, but waking up Saturday it was much better, and now today it is slightly better. Sitting down or staying still causes no pain but moving or bouncing does give a slightly weird feeling in my stomach (not necessarily painful but definitely not normal). I've also had to use the restroom quite often lately.

Could this be appendicitis or is it just an upset stomach?
----------

It could be appendicitis, and it could be a number of other things. Whatever it is, it is not normal and you should get it checked.  (+ info)
