Anyone have Arcus Senilis, eye problem?

I went to have my eyes checked for glasses, and the doctor said I have Arcus Senilis, a thickening around the iris of the eye. It sometimes means you have high cholesterol, and it happens in the elderly. There is no treatment nor does it affect vision, or anything. Last time I checked my cholesterol it was normal, but that was several years ago. Anyone else heard of this, or was your cholesterol high or normal etc.
Actually it is a ring around the cornea.

Anyone had laser arcus marginalis release ?

Who knows about this and Dr Seckel ; has there been any horror stories
----------

Arcus marginalis release is a form of cosmetic lower lid blepharoplasty or lid tuck and is a technique where the fat pad of the lower lid is used to fill in a tear trough defect and give the lower lid a fuller more youthful appearance. Another temporary (6 month) way to do this is by using a filler like restylane.  (+ info)

What causes dark circles under your eyes?

I've had them since I was a kid. Everyone on my mum's side of the family has them too. Is it caused by some sort of vitamin deficiency or what? And what should you do?

Also, is this what people call "the arcus deformity"
----------

It's either from lack of sleep, nutrition or just genetics. Yours is probably genetics. It's not a deformity.  (+ info)

Cornel Arcus?

I looked on the internet and it looks like i might have corneal arcus. My eyes are medium brown and always have been since birth. But about 4 years ago i noticed a blue/gray ring around both my eyes but it was hardly noticeable unless you looked close up. Then about a year ago i had really bad conjuctivitis that seriously lasted for about 3 1/2 months. During that time my eyes were so bad and infected that they changed from the brown that they usually are to blue/gray on the top half of my eyes (the exact same colour as the ring i have around my eyes). Then after it finally passed the blue/gray half eventually dissapeared but i noticed it the blue/gray ring around my eyes thickened and now it is even more noticeable. I also read that is it possible that my eyes will change colour as i get older because i have the ring. But i also read that this ring is only common for old people and i am only 16. I asked my docters and optionist and they all said it is nothing to worry about.

In these conditions it can present in younger age-
Familial mixed hyperlipidaemia
LDL receptor deficiency.

That's why it won't be called Arcus Senilis (as it used to be found in old age only).
Hope it helps.
Good luck!  (+ info)

Cure/Cause of arcus sinilis?

Can the Doctor Tell If My Cholesterol is High by Looking at My Eyes?
Interestingly, it may be possible for your eye doctor to tell if you have high levels of blood cholesterol. Since cholesterol is present throughout the body, it may show up in the eyes. Upon careful examination, a physician may be able to detect two eye conditions that are caused by high levels of blood cholesterol. One condition is marked by a thin white line around the cornea of the eye. This condition is called arcus sinilis. The second condition is known as Hollenhorst Plaque, which is actually a piece of cholesterol that has become lodged in the eye. If either eye condition is present, further testing will need to be done to determine accurate cholesterol levels.  (+ info)

What are your thoughts on the boys name Archer?

"From the occupational surname referring to someone who shoots a bow and arrow. It derives ultimately from the Latin word "arcus", which means "bow".
http://www.behindthename.com/submit/view.php?name=archer
----------

I lke it a lot.

Some people suggest Archer as an alternative to Hunter. But I actually like both names. :] Hunter seems a little more violent, though. It's also got a Greek mythology/astronomy feel to it, which I adore.  (+ info)

Question about the color of the eye's limbus in relation to the iris's color?

Hello, is it true that the limbus of the eye (see: http://www.lvpei.org/stemcell_dia.jpg or please see: http://medical-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/_/viewer.aspx?path=dorland&name=limbus_corneae.jpg as an example) is usually a lighter color than the iris's color? Could it be darker? Is it possible for the color to be blue (exceptions being a corneal arcus) for darker colored eyes? Example: a person who doesn't have high cholesterol deposits who has brown eyes to have a blue limbus? Is the limbus's color usually the eye's color? Finally, IF it is possible genetically for the limbus's color to be completely different from the iris (say blue), what would be the frequency of this (particularly in the US)? How unlikely is it for eyes to have a blue limbus and would age matter (of course older people might have a corneal arcus more)? What would be the frequency of this for a total average segmented population? Any facts or scientific data is greatly appreciated. Thank you so much.
----------

The limbus is part of the cornea, the part where the cornea meets the sclera. It is not part of the iris and does not have any colour. The limbus can become cloudy and look yellow white to blue white due to normal aging and a variety of medical conditions.

The iris itself itself is very variable in colour and a darker or lighter ring near the pupil and/or near the outer edge (under the area where the limbus is) is common.  (+ info)
