How do you protect arm and wrist injuries while riding a bike?

Nearly two years ago, I broke my arm riding my bike. I fell off and the pressure caused two bones in my arm to break. I don't want to have another experience like this, as I am scarred for life (literally and physically). I had surgery and I have a metal plate in my arm. How should I protect myself against another injury like this?
----------

Don't fall off your bike for starters.

I guess you could wear some of that off road riding gear, but really, falling off your bike is pretty close to being in a car accident, you're going to get hurt. The gear will protect against cuts and lacerations, but broken bones are something else entirely.

So if you're going to ride in such a fashion that falling is going to be a reality, you will need to deal with the reality of being hurt, possibly badly.  (+ info)

Do babies get arm injuries from cribbs with bars?

I can imagine my child putting her arm through the bars, then losing balance and falling to the side while her arm is still stuck between the bars. I imagine arm fractures.

Does anyone know why there are cribs with these vertical bars anyway?
And...do you think that they are safety hazards for young kids just learning to stand?

Eat a lot of green to dark green vegetables, and do light tai chi and yoga... light meaning, stay seated and hold your stomach in as tightly as you can then work those muscles without holding your breath. lift your legs slowly while sitting as many times as you can without straining them it may be once or twice but movement will eventually make you feel a little better...see your doctor also  (+ info)

Anybody with knowledge of arm muscle injuries?

I am a 14 year old male baseball player
in recent games, i have been having a lot of pain in my left arm (my throwing arm) and to get the pain, I barley throw it, it starts to hurt withen minutes after soft toss with a fellow teammate.
I am not a pitcher, and icing doesn't help
the pain seems to be coming from the joint area and seems to be in a muscle that runs along the center of my arm (depth-wise)
any info can be good because my mom doesnt want to bring me to a doctor
thank you! =]
----------

you may just be growing muscle. My knees hurt sometimes (i am 13) when i jump around on non-bouncy areas. it goes away real fast but it happens every time i do certain things. Try taking Tylenol or pain reliever and see if that helps. If it continues, search for arm muscle pain on google and it will tell you some things about the muscles growing and what can hurt them and what can stop the pain when doing physical activities.  (+ info)

what are some possible arm injuries?

its my muscle on my forearm. and its really hard, like a rock. i got it when i was sleeping. maybe i over stretched it. i dont know. it feels better to be wrapped. because its more relaxed. and I have been taking advil. and the pain is moderate/ severe. it hurts to straighten my arm and to move my wrist. and its the muscle.

what should i do?
what could this be?
its not just a muscle spasm!!!!!!!!
i hurt it and i'm wondering what to call the "hurt"
----------

I only have three guesses by what you describe.

1) My number one guess that it is simply that your forearm is cramping:

Muscle cramps are common and may be stopped by stretching the muscle. The cramping muscle may feel hard or bulging.

http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/003193.htm

2) Muscle spasms:

Muscle spasms can cause cramps and are usually brought on by the following:

Muscle fatigue
Heavy exercise
Dehydration
Pregnancy
Hypothyroidism
Reduced levels of magnesium or calcium in the body
Other metabolic problems
Alcoholism
Kidney failure
Medications

3) Grade III muscle strain/tear:

The muscle tears all the way through. Either it rips into two separate pieces, or the fleshy part of the muscle breaks away from the tendon. Grade III muscle strains are serious injuries that cause complete loss of muscle function, as well as considerable pain, swelling, tenderness and discoloration. A Grade III strain also causes a break in the normal outline of the muscle, often producing an obvious "dent" or "gap" under the skin where the ripped pieces of muscle have come apart.

How can I heal arm & hand injuries to soft tissue & nerves?

soft tissue injuries can be healed by cold on for 20 minutes off for 20 on for 20 off for 20 for as long as you can keep doing this. Nerve injuries on the other hand may or may not improve. These injuries should be seen by a dr to determine if permanant injury has resulted or not. if there is deep bruising that doesn't heal a dr trip is advised.  (+ info)
