What should I do about an arm injury?

Yesterday I tripped while moving furniture and it landed on my arm. It is swollen but not a lot of bruising but a little painful. Is there a way to tell if its more then just a soft tissue injury? Should I use a brace/sling?
----------

See your health care provider as soon as possible. The ligaments of the wrist, shoulder, and elbow joints may be stretched (strained) or partially torn (sprained), but complete tears are rare. Fractures may occur at the wrist, are less frequent around the elbow, and are uncommon around the shoulder. Injuries often occur during a fall, when the weight of the body is caught on the outstretched arm.

RIP is the key word: rest, ice, and protection. Rest the arm and apply ice wrapped in a towel for at least 30 minutes. If the pain is gone and there is no swelling at the end of this time, you can stop the ice treatment. A sling for shoulder and elbow injuries and a partial splint for wrist injuries will give protection and rest to the injury while allowing the patient to move around. Continue ice treatment for 30 minutes on and 15 minutes off through the first eight hours if swelling appears.
Heat can be applied after 24 hours. The injured joint should be usable with little pain within 24 hours and should be almost normal by 72 hours. If not, see the doctor. Complete healing takes from four to six weeks, and activities with a likelihood of reinjury should be avoided during this time. And good luck.  (+ info)

How long does it take to recover from an arm wrestling injury?

My arm was really sore in the wrist two days ago after I arm wrestled this guy who is a lot heavier than me. I beat him eventually but i think i pushed a bit hard because two days later I was bench pressing about 150 pounds fine for about two sets and then my whole arm felt a dead pain from under the bicep to the funnybone.
How long till I'll be pressing happily again?

Faking arm & leg injuries?

Alright, so i have to go rockclimb with a group of friends. The thing is im severely sick with a really bad fever coming up. that, along with a stomach ache that won't go away, and a headache that hurts a lot.

I could cancel the plans and look flakey (even if im sick) (everybody's looking towards seeing Everybody, and I said i'd definitely go no matter what) , but I'd rather not look flakey, and just go. So i'm just going to buy one of those arm things, that people wear when their arms are broken, and make fake marks/brusies... problem is I have nowhere to start!

1. What are some key ingredients to making a fake bruise/mark/scab/whatever, look real? (on my arm). I'm guessing dark & light purple blush makeup, thats waterproof. that way, if my arm gets wet, it wont smear

2. What are some good arm/leg excuses? Besides broken arm/legs. That's too common.

Go ahead with the expedition but as an observer and safety person.  (+ info)

Can a thumb injury cause numbness in your upper arm?

I got kicked in the (left) thumb a year or so ago and lately it's been hurting again. My left bicep has started hurting too, but I can't think of any other reason for it. I haven't lifted weights in about a month

The numbness/crampiness is radiating to my chest. I was afraid I was having a heart attack or even an anxiety attack. But could I have pinched a nerve when I got kicked and that is now causing my arm pain? How can a doctor tell?

How should I treat my arm injury?

About a week and a half ago I was running and fell on my outstretched arm. I suffered some minor aches at first but am now experiencing pain any time I use my arm. How should I treat this injury? Is there a way to accelerate the healing process?

What could be wrong with my arm?

When I stretch out my left arm, I get a painful and tingling sensation in my hand, around where my thumb is. I noticed it suddenly and was fine before that, I don't recall any obvious recent injuries. What could this be?

What do you think about this arm injury?

I had a basketball game on Friday and during the game i was in the air going up for a rebound and I fell backwards and I put my hands out to break the fall. It didnt really bother me the rest of the game but its gotten a lot worse since then. Now it hurts mostly on my left arm about from the middle of it to the wrist and part of the hand. I have a bruise on the bottom part of the arm and my parents dont think its anything serious but it hurts to do the easiest things. What do you think?
----------

You might have brused the bone of your arm, or given yourself a hairline fracture. It dodsnt take much to harm the human body, we are Amazingly resilient, but we can still hurt ourselves without realising it. The best thing to do would be to go see your family doctor just to make sure everythings okay,  (+ info)

Have you ever heal yourself without the help of a doctor? What kind of injuries or problems are u facing?

I had dislocated arm which i relocated it by myself, and ingrown toe nails which i cut it off too. I managed to tolerate the pain without any surgery or pain killers needed. What about you?
indeed well done guys! some ppl simply cant live without doctors. They visit them every time lil things occur like gentle coughing, headache, stomach flu, muscle cramp, etc. I dont really believe in docs though, unless things are getting serious.

Most of my injuries I have needed a doctor for since I can't give myself neurosurgery, or really any type of surgery etc. Though I have healed my tailbones on my own (I've broken, and bruised my tailbone several times figure skating).  (+ info)

Other than a broken arm, what type of injuries require a sling?

Aha, I'm working the medical tent for a martial arts tournament, and we spent a lot of money on equipment, including slings.
Me: Why are there so many slings? Aren't those just for broken arms?
My friend: No idea.
Me: ...frankly, if we get someone with a broken arm, I'm sending them to the hospital.
Thanks.
I'm in college, redgator. I don't do fake excuses to get out of class. If I'm hung over or feel like crap or whatever, I don't show up. I could have used that idea in middle school, though...
Doodler, I'm not saying I'm a med major, far from it (I'm an acting/music double major) This is a tournament run only on volunteers. The reason why they want me in the med tent is because I'm good with children (I have a younger sister and six younger cousins) and there will be kids in this tournament. I have little medical experience, but I can get a kid to sit still long enough to stop their nosebleed.

no, broken collar bones can require a sling, dislocated shoulders can require a sling, torn ligaments can require a sling, shoulder surgeries can require a sling. elbow injuries and obviously broken arms. i hope I helped  (+ info)

How come my right arm is more defined than my left arm?

I am left handed, and I have suffered a torn shoulder injury due to football. Over the years I have worked both arms out but I do extra reps with my left to strengthen it out. The left one seems bulkier but the right tri and bi seem bigger for some reason. Is there any way I can make my left arm/shoulder look as cut as the right one?
