Can I know if wheat Bread and Potatoes are bad for my gouty arthritis?

After several months of free gouty attacks, here I am now suffering with to much pain.
----------

Basically, white flour may cause arthritis because it can cause inflammation and makes your body acidic. If you gout attack free for the past several months AND it was because you were not eating breads... then, that's your answer. To relieve pain, you can try lemonsito juice without sugar or lemon juice without sugar "in an empty stomach". These will make your body alkali. Or a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar to a glass of water will do. If you find it too sour, add a tablespoon of honey. This drink will make you sleep soundly too. You mentioned wheat bread and I said white flour, if your wheat bread is not crumbly then it has more white flour in it than whole wheat flour. I bake wholewheat breads and my breads are not soft like those baked with white flour.  (+ info)

Gouty arthritis is caused by high level of uric acid in the blood. What about rheumatism?

I was wondering why doctors simply diagnose patients to be afflicted with rheumatism without tests at all. Their priscriptions usually end up as PAIN RELIEVERS only with costs widely gapped. NOT cure thus the pain always return after the priscribed drug is consumed or after the pain has become emmune to the drug.
----------

I do not know of any doctor that diagnoses rheumatic disease with out test at all. If your doctor did then it is time to see a new doctor.

It is hard to diagnose Rheumatic forms of arthritis. The way different forms of autoimmune forms of arthritis are treated are different. Therefore it is important to get a proper diagnosis.

There are many different types of test that are used to diagnosis RA and other forms of autoimmune arthritis.

Check out this link for more information about diagnosing RA.

Can you recieve Soc Sec Disability for Gouty Arthritis?

This is what I have and frequently I am in severe pain and cannot walk. Does anyone have any helpful advice?
----------

I have had juvenile rethumoid arthritis since I was 4 years old, & I draw disability. I got it pretty easy though, I was able to access my medical records since I was 4, so it was pretty basic that I was disabilied. If you are applying for disability just make sure that you can access your medical records that document that you have arthritis, & you will also have to see the state doctor to verify that he thinks you are qualified for disability.  (+ info)

what are the specific foods for persons who has gouty arthritis?

what kind of fish, meat and vegetables that a person with gout should avoid?
----------

Diets which are high in purines and high in protein have long been suspected of causing an increased risk of gout (a type of arthritis caused by high levels of uric acid in the body which form crystals in the joints, resulting in pain and inflammation).
In general, foods that cause gout are high in fat, which is why dietary recommendations for people with this kind of arthritis advise that less than 30% of their calories come from fat. Proteins with large concentrations of purines include meat and dairy products. Fish, like mackerel, sardines, oysters, mussels, and scallops, should be avoided, as well as red and white meat like poultry, pork, and beef. Sweetmeats, or organ meat, like kidney, heart, or liver, are especially bad for those suffering from gout. Even foods related to meat, like chicken or beef broth, caviar, and bouillon might produce high levels of uric acid.

Other foods that cause gout are dairy and vegetables, because they have lots of purines as well. High-fat dairy, like whole milk, ice cream, butter, and cheese, must be avoided in favor of low-fat dairy, or soy replacements. Spinach, mushrooms, cauliflower, peas, and asparagus have been shown to be rich in purines. In an unrelated food category, lentil beans and yeast increase one's chance of gout flaring up. For this reason, even beer and alcohol, because they are derived from yeast and grains, can increase the discomfort of gout.

The American Medical Association recommends the following dietary guidelines for people with gout, advising them to eat a diet:
* high in complex carbohydrates (fiber-rich whole grains, fruits, and vegetables)
* low in protein (15% of calories and sources should be soy, lean meats, or poultry)
* no more than 30% of calories in fat (with only 10% animal fats)

Recommended Foods To Eat
* Fresh cherries, strawberries, blueberries, and other red-blue berries
* Bananas
* Celery
* Tomatoes
* Vegetables including kale, cabbage, parsley, green-leafy vegetables
* Foods high in bromelain (pineapple)
* Foods high in vitamin C (red cabbage, red bell peppers, tangerines, mandarins, oranges, potatoes)
* Drink fruit juices and purified water (8 glasses of water per day)
* Low-fat dairy products
* Complex carbohydrates (breads, cereals, pasta, rice, as well as aforementioned vegetables and fruits)
* Chocolate, cocoa
* Coffee, tea
* Carbonated beverages
* Essential fatty acids (tuna and salmon, flaxseed, nuts, seeds)
* Tofu, although a legume and made from soybeans, may be a better choice than meat

Foods considered moderately high in purines but which may not raise the risk of gout include: asparagus, cauliflower, mushrooms, peas, spinach, whole grain breads and cereals, chicken, duck, ham, turkey, kidney and lima beans. It is important to remember that purines are found in all protein foods. All sources of purines should not be eliminated.  (+ info)

Does drinking coffee affect or increase the painful effects of gouty arthritis?

Caffeine is GOOD for pain. There's caffeine in Excedrin, anacin, and other pain meds. Have you tried Aleve or Advil?
If those don't work, get something a little stronger from your doctor.
Bless you and Good luck! :)  (+ info)

Can someone explain to me what causes the characteristic 'punched-out lesions' in gouty arthritis?

Just wanna know how the punched-out lesion happens and what is it caused by.

Thanks! :)

My understanding is that this is caused by deposits of urea. Mine break through the skin as my body rids itself of the deposits. Hope this helps.  (+ info)

how to stop reoccuring gout (gouty arthritis) attacks? does diet and weather affect the severity of attacks?

i have been suffering from gout (gouty arthritis) for a few years. my dr. in the states had me on a daily dose of allopurinol to control the uric (sp?) acid levels (which causes gout). for a year i didn't have an attack and now i m livin china. and i have had several attacks and each attack is worse than the previouse. i have researched several sources. most agree that less alcohol consumtion would prevent frequent gouty attacks. if i follow all the advice will i never have another attack?
i can usually tell when an attack is coming on. i buy the meds to try to stop it but everytime the attacks come on i can't stop them. i mean they always progress to a painful state and then go away with the meds already in my blood. is it just futile to try to stop an attack once it starts? i mean can an attack only be reversed once it reaches a certain state? also what about situations when meds arn't available? like, my recent attack occured at night and the pharmacies were closed. i tried drinking a gallon of H2O, elevated my foot and wraped it with a hot towel. these efforts didn't work and i think the hot towel made it worse.
----------

I found a diet of no alcohol, sugar and carbohydrates will lower the PH of the body helping reduce gout. Eat lots of vegetables, especially green leafy ones, and protein, Tofu, meat, eggs, milk. No rice bread or grains untill you've been on the low carb diet for 30 days, and then only add 2 cups of whole grains a day. I guarantee you will feel better and see the difference. And don't forget the water, 2 quarts a day, pure and fresh. No soda or juice, too much sugar. Don't drink anything but water, no tea or coffee either. The cafien in the tea and coffee dehydrate the body and the uric acid levels rise when the body is dehydrated. feel better soon.  (+ info)

Is YEAST can cause gouty arthritis?

Well I just want to know my precautions.
----------

Yes. My Father had extremely bad gout in his right foot after a construction injury and he had to abstain from beer and fish. Beer and it's high yeast content would cause him alot of pain.  (+ info)
