What is the difference between Infectious Arthritis and Ankylosing Spondylitis in symptoms?

I have arthritis that has fused my SI joints, and had to also get both my hips replaced due to degeneration of the joint. I thought I had AS. But the tests did not come Positive, but that also is common with people with AS. How can I tell if I have AS or if it could be an Infectious Arthritis? I have had my condition since I was 15yrs

Names of some infectious skeletal or muscular disease?

I need to write about an infectious disease of the skeletal or muscular systems. Tetanus, botulism, influenza, cysticercosis, septic arthritis are all taken. Please give me names of skeletal or muscular infectious disease that is not mentioned above. thanksss
----------

Hows about Ebola. Its a very nasty disease that is also very infectious. It results in boils and swellings, then you start to turn to mush inside out. It attacks the Nervous System but also muscles, so you could try that.

Can INfectious Arthritis cause patello femoral syndrome?

My doctor (rheumatologists) diagnosed me with infectious arthriitis for having multiple joint pain. Before, my orthopedic surgeon diagnosed me for patellofemoral syndrome/chondromalacia patello.
My question is, the knee problem that I am having, patellofemoral syndrome caused by overuse or infectious arthrits (bacterail or viral) infection? The state labor and industries trying to screw me up from paying my medical bill because they think my patellofemoral syndrome could be caused by bacterial infection and not because of overuse? I dont have any other pathology in my knee except patello femoral syndrome. Can bacteria or viral infection cause just patello femoral syndrom in my knee?

When you have two different 'specialists' giving you different diagnosis, it makes me wonder if either of them have it right? Might be something else completely different from either of them.  (+ info)

Can a tick bite cause infectious arthritis?

I found a tick on my inner thigh and removed it immediately on July 4th. I don't think it bit me (I would think that I would have felt it). Yesterday I had extreme migraine pain and I have been feeling achey the past week. Today I woke up with horrible pain on both hips that makes it hard to walk. I've been laying in bed and waddling all day. I looked up this joint-pain on WebMD and found that a possible condition was BACTERIAL ARTHRITIS or SEPTIC ARTHRITIS. Some Googling later led me to find that ticks can carry this disease. I did not notice a bulls-eye mark where the tick was, but I'm still worried. Am I freaking out over nothing? How long should I wait to see a doctor?
----------

Yes ticks can cause infectiouse arthritis, but they usually have to have bitten you for a while. You shouldnt see a bulls eye mark where you were bitten because that usually only happens with lymes disease. But there are number of other tick diseases it could be. But really, the odds of it being a tick born infection is proabably low. Especally because there is no evidence of a bit. Your proabably just worring your self about it. Wait a day or two and if you dont get better, or if you get worse go to the Dr right away and they can run test to see what it is. Good luck
Hope that helps.  (+ info)

What is the difference between infectious and non-infectious diseases?

What is the difference between them and what do they mean other than one being infectious and one not being infectious.
----------

An infectious disease is a clinically evident disease of humans or animals that damages or injures the host so as to impair host function, and results from the presence and activity of one or more pathogenic microbial agents, including viruses, bacteria, fungi, protozoa, multicellular parasites, and aberrant proteins known as prions. Transmission of an infectious disease may occur through several pathways; including through contact with infected individuals, by water, food, airborne inhalation, or through vector-borne spread. The rest of the diseases can be classified as noninfectious diseases. Most of them are degenerative diseases such as diabetes, cancer, mental illness, etc.  (+ info)

An infectious disease is communicable (contagious), and non-infectious diseases are harder to transfer.  (+ info)

What causes the emergence and reemergence of infectious diseases?

What causes the emergence and reemergence of infectious diseases?

-Thank you sooo much!
----------

Many things cause the emergence/reemergence of infectious diseases: antimicrobial resistance, increasing global travel, globalization of the food supply, ecological and climate changes, people and wild animals living in closer proximity and human behavior to name a few.  (+ info)

What is the difference between arthritis medicines Mobic and Celebrex?

I take 200 mg Celebrex every day for arthritis. My RN friend says she takes Mobic 15 mg and it is the only arthritis medicine her hospital prescribes since it is safer and works better than Celebrex. I want to know why it is safer and what, if any, are the side effects?
----------

About celebrex: It is true that it is slightly better for the stomach (GI tract in general) and it does not have the detrimental side effects (increased cardiovascular morbidity and mortality) that vioxx and bextra had.
Mobic is a less specific COX-2 inhibitor and has never been shown to be any better than celebrex.
As mobic is not generic it is as expensive as celebrex.
If you are looking for a cheaper alternative to celebrex, I would recommend Etodolac as it is generic and overall better tolerated than ibuprofen or naprosyn.
From a personal standpoint: my mother tolerated celebrex ok but had severe stomach problems with mobic. As always YMMV.

What are the signs of arthritis and is it preventable?

I had a serious wreck 10yrs ago and fractured my hip in several places and had to have major surgery. The doctor told me that I would be more suceptable to arthritis. I am now 32 and have been having for the last few yrs or so pain in my arms and legs but only at night when I am trying to sleep. Could this be the onset of arthritis? What are the signs? Thanks!
----------

One of the signs of arthritis is when one has pain when they know the weather is going to change such as when it rains. Stiffness such as during cold weather can also be a symptom of arthritis. Some people notice their pain worse during the day and others at night too. This can often tie in to the weather as well. Sometimes swelling and redness can be symptoms of arthritis.

As to how to prevent it once it starts the only thing that can be done is to minimize the amount of pain thru medication and other forms of treatment and sometimes exercise.

Sometimes pain in the muscles can be a sign of arthritis too. When I first started out I didn't have the classic symptoms of arthritis. My problem was muscle pain in my thigh area. Whenever my arthritis acts up and I know it's going to be a bad flare I will often feel it in my thigh first and one way I'll know it is when I start to feel a burning sensation in that area and then the pain comes next.

How long can impetigo live and be infectious outside of a human host?

I'm not using the same towels and I am disinfecting everything regularly. Still curious... For example, if I use a towel to dry off after showering how long can the towel cause infection? Or if I itch then get it on my hand then touch a doorknob can it live on the doorknob for a while and still be infectious?
----------

Yes, it will infect others if they touch the doorknob. Impetigo remains contagious until the area is disinfected and until your rash has disappeared.
