Has anyone ever heard of "Post Strep Reactive Arthritis"?

If so have you ever heard of it lasting longer than a yr and continueously?
----------

my boyfriend had strep and 3 weeks later had such bad pain & swelling in his ancle that he had to go to the hospital for 4 days and was told he had reactive arthritis. he was never exposed to clamidia or food bacteria so reactive arthritis must have come from the strep. it has been 3 and a half weeks and his ancle still kills him. perscriptions don't seem to do anything. let me lnow if you have any info.  (+ info)

Reactive arthritis?

I have finally been diagnosed with reactive arthritis, although all my symptoms are of rheumatoid, including that i have slightly 3 deformed fingers. Anyhow, my specialist said its not rheumatoid which is a relief. I'm on prednisone (every other day) and neproxyn. The damage to my joints is still happening though!! Heard reactive arthritis goes away on its own but does it have any cure you can suggest? Is there anyone here with reactive arthritis? What are you doing about it? Once when someone is diagnosed with it, do they live with arthritis forever even if the symptoms are gone?
----------

Reactive arthritis is developed in response to an infection in another part of your body-- coming into contact with bacteria and developing an infection can trigger reactive arthritis - yes - its symptoms are similar to arthritis or rheumatism but it is caused by another disease, thats why it is called "reactive" - it depends on another condition.

My sister use to be a hair stylist and was exposed to lots of chemicals. This chemical environment kept her constantly in an atmosphere that was just right for the growth of Candida yeast infections that almost complete destroyed her body. Her digestive track was taken over by yeast and nothing was right with her - this triggered arthritis pains in her joints - her fingers and knees were mostly affected.

To regain her life she had to first get to the root of her problem. First she had to get rid of the triggers - the yeast infections - this meant changes in diet and being very careful where she ate and what she ate. She got rid of all complex carbohydrates such as potatoes etc -- you can do your research. She drank lots of water and She used natural medications to clean up the yeast from her digestive track

What was most amazing was as she began her clean up the pains in her joints began to go away.

Find out if there is some other infection in your body and get to the root of it and clean it up. You might just experience some of the same results my sister did.  (+ info)

Is this really Reactive Arthritis?

Last September I saw the doctor after I began suffering with painful joints all over my body. I was tested for Rheumatoid Arthritis but as the test came back negative my GP immediately decided it must be Reactive Arthritis brought on by some kind of infection (even though I couldn't recall having any recent infections at that time). I was told that it would clear up within 3-6 months and to come back if I needed any help managing the pain. However one year on it is still troubling me (though I can manage the pain with Ibuprofen most of the time) and I can feel it getting worse now the weather has turned colder. It doesn't seem to follow any pattern of flaring up if I get ill (which I don't very often) but the weather definately affects it, and I was pain free for 2 weeks in Mexico last winter ;-)
Should I just accept my diagnosis of Reactive Arthritis? Or could it be some other form of Arthritis? I'm 30.
----------

It could very well be some other form of arthritis. It could also be reactive arthritis if the cause has never been treated. The best thing to do is to ask your doctor for a referral to a rheumatologist. There is no need to suffer as you have been and the only way to treat the problem is to get a real diagnosis not a guess from a doctor.

Is it possible for reactive arthritis to cause symmetric joint problem?

The reason I am asking this is, I have all the finger bones in both hands cause pain. Both my wrists, both my knees, both my ankles, both my balls of the feet, both heals, toes in both of my feet, my neck, both my shoulders, both my elbows hurt. All the finger bones on both hands hurt. Is it possible for reactive arthritis cause symmetric symptoms? My doctor said I do not have parvo. He also said I do not have rheumatoid arthritis. But, he said I may have reactive arthritis. He is not sure yet. Is it possible that I Have reactive arthritis with symmetric joints problem? Please HELP?
----------

So they have not diagnosed it yet ? doctors think i have reactive arthritis too because all of my joints hurt, mostly my lefty knee and it was swollen one time. So has the doc has ruled out RA for sure? did he take a blood test ? . I googled symmetric joint pain and this is what it says:
Joint involvement tends to be symmetric in systemic diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, polymyalgia rheumatica, viral arthritides, and serum sickness reactions. Of eight variables examined in one study, symmetric pain was the most potent discriminating feature for rheumatoid arthritis. Psoriatic arthritis, reactive arthritis, and gout are more likely to present with asymmetric peripheral involvement.

Erm one thing i know for sure is that you take it out of a flu or an infection of some sort and that is why it called reactive arthritis.

Reactive Arthritis symptoms: How quickly after infection can symptoms start?

Almost exactly a year ago I had salmonella poisoning that led to vomiting and diarrhea for five days with high fevers. It was a horrible experience which was then followed by pains in multiple joints that led to three months of suffering with arthritis. I was on medication for a long time and tested positive for the hla b27 gene.

Sadly, I have just been hit by food poisoning. The sickness lasted started about 36 hours ago and have now stopped. However my neck and shoulder now have an ache. Would the onset of pains be to quick for reactive arthritis?
----------

Reactionary Arthritis can occur anything upto 8 weeks after infection passed. This can be medicated using NSAIDs Non Steroid Anti Inflammatories and pain medication Anadin plus is a good one.

The Arthritis will blow away within 8 months maximum. Unlike Rheumatoid Arthritis that I have which is with me for life.  (+ info)

Shoulder Instability & Reactive Arthritis?

Hi all.

I have been diagnosed with completed shoulder instability in my right shoulder and my MRI results show that I have reactive arthritis. From what I have searched Reactive Arthritis is due to an infection but I don't have an infection and have no other symptom's in any other joints. Could this be caused by the shoulder instability or is it a misdiagnoses??

Thanks for all your help

Eloise
Thanks! This really helps! I was starting to worry about wierd infections and scaring myself although athritis is not nice to have either.

It was difficult to understand the radiologist because I am in Germany and the Medical German language is beyond my capability!
----------

I think what the radiologist calls 'reactive arthritis' is not the same as what you are searching. Reactive arthritis due to infection cannot be diagnosed by MRI alone, and certainly the radiologist reading your MRI hasn't looked through all your medical charts to see if you've had fevers, joint redness, etc. (it's your primary doc's job to put the pieces of the puzzle together)

I think the radiologist was reffering to arthritis arising from the loose components in your joint causing wear and tear-type changes.

Hope this helps ease your mind... MRI reports can be so confusing!  (+ info)

Is there no end to the symptoms of Reactive Arthritis.?

I was diagnosed as having seronegative reactive arthritis last July. The initial flare caused me to be bedridden for three months and a spell in hospital. My specialist told me that most patients are recovered within 3-6 months. It caused swelling in most of my joints and a lot of pain. Along with a whole bucket full of other symptoms, mouth ulcers, conjunctivitis along with a nasty rash.Initially I had my knee's drained and was given steroid injections into some of my joints. I am currently taking Paracetamol & dihydracodiene for the pain, doesn't help much. Lansrapole, celexocib, methotrexate and folic acid, I have been taking these for nearly 10 months now and dont seem to be improving much. I still have swollen fingers, wrists, knees, ankles, I have terrible back, shoulder, elbow, ankle, knee pain, it has also left me with three deformed fingers. Just these last few weeks it has presented itself in the right side of my face and is very painful to try and eat, its usually just soup these days., My specialist says all he can do is to see how i am in 4 months time and go from there. I am in constant pain, sometimes I can't even manage to get out of bed. Has anyone else had this and recovered from it. Im only 37 with four active kids who have had to help me dress, bathe etc. For the last ten months it has taken over thier lives aswell. I've had to leave my job and this disease has completely threw my world into turmoil. Is there any hope, does anyone know of any home remedies I could try that may help. The only thing I have found makes me feel 'normal' again is when I go into hospital and they give me steroids on an I V, my Dr won't let me continue with this as its harmul to my liver/kidneys. Any words of advice would be gratefully recieved.

Hi, I have R.A. and lately have had alot more pain, and other symptoms I never had before; sharp pains in the face and neck... and neuropathy. Sometimes I can't stand to have anything touch my skin or wear shoes. I can certainly relate. Sounds like you may need help with your children. The state can send you a care-giver a few hrs. a day and they pay, so your kids can have time to be kids, and you can get better care. My mom takes dylodid for diabetic peripheral neuropathy and it works pretty well; its time released and less intense than morphine. I know diet plays a large part in R.A. Supposedly no night shade foods (potatoes, tomatoes, or peppers), add whole grains, no table sugar, decrease fats, less meats (I'm now a vegetarian), vitamins, No store bought desserts! Preservatives are bad, and prayer is always good! The Lord removed alot of things in my life (cigarettes etc), I know we must have diseases and such, but with children, maybe you can lessen the symptoms and improve your time with them, as well as your life in general. God bless you.  (+ info)

30 years old and doctor thinks I have Reactive Arthritis?

Recently I had water in my knee and the knee got really swollen and I have had issues walking. The doctors have ran some tests on my and they are coming to conclusion that I may have "Reactive Arthritis" . I find this hard to believe because I have read up on this and I have absolutley none of the symptoms that are listed on the net (with the exception of the bum knee). I read up on it and it has alot to do with infections . I have none, nor have I been sick lately. I have been tested for all stds etc and Im clear.I guess my question is - does anyone out there have it? Is my life at risk? Do I have worse things to look fwd to (besides my knee swelling up)? Look fwd to your answers.
- Thanks
