Oh, then wal-mart needs to take Acuvue Toric off their website.
Acuvue Toric is an older lens. Vistakon discontinued the lens in '07, but they are still selling them until their back-stock runs out.

Acuvue Advance for Astigmatism replaced the Acuvue Toric. This lens provides the eye with more moisture and oxygen permeability.

Acuvue Oasys for Astigmatism is their newest toric lens. It is even more comfortable than the Advance.  (+ info)

I have astigmatism, but I wanted to just try out colored contacts. Is it okay to wear regular colored contacts although i have astigmatism? I know there are toric options available, but that requires going to the optometrist & etc.

How do doctors determine the correction power for astigmatism?

I have astigmatism but how do they find out what correction is needed for it? How is it different from how they test for myopia, reading letters etc.?
Astigmatism can be determined in a number of ways. It can be measured by a technique called retinoscopy, where they make the room dark and shine a light in your eyes from a distance of about 66cm away. This is called objective refraction.

Another method is called subjective refraction and is where they ask you to look at some dots or rings and shoq you two sides of lenses and ask you which makes them look clearer and rounder  (+ info)

Contact lenses for astigmatism of a positive cylinder value?

Hello,
I'm looking to buy contact lenses and i've heard i can get something to treat astigmatism as well. However, when i looked it up, i found all cylinder values are negative while mine (in the prescription) is positive (+0.50) - any idea?
There are two forms of writing a prescription, either negative cylinder or positive cylinder. Your prescription is written as positive cylinder. It can be transposed to the negative form. To ensure accuracy, ask an optician or their staff to do this for you, but basically, all you have to do is:
1 - add the sphere and cylinder together to give you the new sphere
2 - change the cylinder to -0.50
3- change the axis by either adding or subtracting 90 to give you a new number which is between 0 and 180.

To be honest, if you just have 0.50 astigmatism. then contact lenses for astigmatism will provide you little or no benefit in comparison to spherical lenses.

Also, you need to go to see an optician to be fitted for contact lenses first anyway. You cannot just buy them online without a valid prescription, you will need additional measurements for the shape and size of the lens too. They will give you your exact contact lens prescription once you have had an appointment to be fitted with them  (+ info)

Both cataracts and astigmatism can cause vision distortion, but the treatment is different for each of the two causes. How can the doctor tell for sure?
That is two complete different things, and very easy to determine.

A cataract is visible through the pupil , it is a physical change in the lens of the eye that can be seen.

Astigmatism is a visual defect caused by light refracting in 2 different planes.

Can I have vison corrective surgury if I have astigmatism?

I have astigmatism fully in my right eye and just a little in my left. I wear contacts currently, but would really like to have lasik or any other corrective procedure. But I've heard that it's not recommended to have it done with astigmatism becaue it might make any irregularities on my eye due to the astigmatism permanent. Is this true?
yes that is true my fiance had astigmatism and the doctor gave him new contacts to try to correct it because he wants to get lasik surgery they usually wont do it with astigmatism try the new hydroclear contacts to correct it they give your eyes more oxygen and try not to wear your contacts longer then needed or recommended other then that speak to your doctor about it he/she should have mroe information.  (+ info)

Does adding astigmatism correction to glasses make everything very bright?

I broke the arm of my glasses and I had to get a new exam before I could replace them because they were 3 years old. The prescription turned out to be the same except that they added -0.50 of astigmatism correction. The difference between the two pairs is dramatic, with the new ones everything seems really bright and vibrant, is that because of the astigmatism correction or is it likely that the lens material has changed in 3 years? I pay a bit extra to get the thinner lenses but my prescription isn't very heavy.
The astigmatic correction brings everything into focus so your vision should be clearer. The fact that your old eyeglasses were 3 years old, also means they could have developed several tiny scratches which may not be very noticeable, but just being there, they could compromise clarity as well.  (+ info)
