What would classify as Cyclothymia as opposed to Bipolar II or the mood swings of BPD?

Couldn't the mood swings in Boarderline Personality disorder be confused with the mood swings of Cyclothymia?

What sets apart Cyclothymia and Bipolar II? Can anyone tell me a bit more about how Cyclothymia could appear in people? Couldn't one be diagnosed by accident when the other is actuley present in particular cyclothymia instead off BPD?

Anyone have any ideas of info?

Thanks so much for your help.
----------

Yes, mood swings in Borderline Personality Disorder are similar to Bipolar Disorder. Some people are diagnosed with both disorders. But Borderline Personality Disorder also has features of fear of abandonmen and disturbed sense of identity that is not part of Bipolar Disorder.

Cyclothymia is switching back and forth between mild depression and hypomania. It does not include Major Depression. Bipolar II is major depressive episodes (more severe) alternated with hypomaina.  (+ info)

How can I support my fiance who is bipolar II?

My fiancee had been recently diagnosed with bipolar II. I am having a tough time dealing with this because I took a considerable amount of time looking into this medical condition. I love her to death but I feel I am not able to offer my support as I can't really relate what she is going through. I have agreed to be in this relationship. We've been on and off for the past four years and it was last year that I proposed and are set to get married in October. I am afraid that this Bipolar could get worse. Could our marriage work?
----------

Truth is she has had Bipolar the whole time you have known her. She had it before you proposed to her..... The only thing that has changed is that she has a label, she has not changed. If you wanted to be with her before what makes such a difference now that you would question your love for her. Bipolar Disorder is very misunderstood and if your feelings are changing because of things you have heard, that is not fair to her. She is still the same person she was. Both of you need to become educated about Bipolar and then things will actually get easier! She now has the option of meds to help control some of the symptoms and counseling will teach her more about her symptoms and how to deal with them. As for supporting her the best thing you can do is continue to love her. Ask her what she needs from you when she is having an episode..... when depressed some of us just prefer to be left alone others like to have someone encourage us to get out and do things.... you will have to ask her what SHE needs.

I have Bipolar 1 and I have a successful career, own my own home, raised three healthy happy kids.... Bipoolar is not a death sentence, nor is it something that will change her....... She is the same person you fell in love with.  (+ info)

To prevent Type II diabetes, is it more important to avoid sugar and carbs, or to avoid fat?

I understand that it is important to avoid both sugar/carbs and fat, to prevent insulin resistance (which then leads to Type II diabetes,) but which is more important?
----------

What will make the most difference in preventing you from becoming full-blown diabetic is to lose weight. If you are obese, do what you need to do to get down into the overweight category. If you are overweight, do what you need to do to get into the normal category. That's not to say there aren't healthy-weight people that still have insulin resistance, but that helps most people.

As for food intake, fat doesn't affect your blood glucose because it has no carb. Carbs impact your blood glucose and need to be moderated. Doesn't matter if it's sugar, fruit, potatoes, bread, or milk - carbs are carbs. Keeping your carb intake at less than 30-35g per meal will not overload your body, and the insulin you produce should be able to metabolize that. Focus on lean meats and veggies as the bulk of your food. 30 minutes of exercise daily also makes a big difference, even if you divide it into two 15-minute brisk walks, because that increase in your metabolism continues throughout the day.  (+ info)

Do you think that someone with Aspergers and someone with Bipolar II could have a good relationship?

Dating-wise? In-depth answers and personal experiences appreciated. In this case, the Aspergers is moderate and the Bipolar II is pretty severe, slow cycling, with long bouts of depression that come with mild hallucinations.
----------

Yes, however, the partner would need to be very understanding and have a lot of patience.  (+ info)

What would the effects be if a non-diabetic was taking tablets meant for a type II diabetic? Could we sue?

I am asking as a relative of mine has been prescribed tablets for type II diabetes. It turns out that she is NOT diabetic and they have got her mixed up with another patient who has the same first name and a similar surname. She has been on these tablet for over two months. I presume they are to control blood high(?) blood sugar, so what would the effect of these be on someone who is not diabetic?
----------

There are indications for glucophage (metformin) in the non-diabetic, so just because she is non-diabetic doesn't mean they would be harmful. Glucophage is not a secretogogue, which means that it does NOT cause the pancreas to secrete insulin, rather sensitizes the body to its effects. There are other diabetic oral meds that do help the pancreas secrete insulin.

In order to bring a lawsuit there has to be harm. Accidentally giving a wrong medication is not enough in the absence of harm (did he pass out, or have a severe life-threatening reaction to the med?)  (+ info)

What are the pros and cons of Starbury II shoes?

Can anybody tell me what are the good things and bad things about Stephon Marbury's shoes, Starbury II? Please exclude things such as they're ugly, they're cheap, or something like that. I need to know the quality of the shoes.
----------

I worked at Steve and Barry's for a year. And I can tell you definitely do not buy these shoes. They always compare them to Jordan shoes, but they are totally not. I was a cashier and people always returned these shoes. Main problem: The sole would come off extremely easy. Like one customer complained that he only had them a week and the sole came completely out. Also, the tongue will rip off. And, they aren't comfortable shoes. I bought some when they first came out (before everyone started returning them) and they are hard as rocks. I thought I just had to break em in, but wrong. They still sit in my closet after a year. I found no point in returning them since my 30% discount only made them cost 7 bucks at the time. Now i believe they run around $20? Total waste.   (+ info)

how much sugar a day could contribute to Diabetes II?

I really want to know the amount of sugar (consumed daily) that someone needs to get Type II Diabetes. I know the recommended is no more than 30g a day, but say a person goes to 60g a day, would he get diabetes?
----------

Unless someone knows something I don't, there's not really a good answer to this question. Since diabetes is not caused by eating sugar but rather a variety of factors, including heredity, how would one answer how much is too much sugar per day? As far as I know there are no studies out there that definitively answer this either...

Good luck! (:  (+ info)

Are there any type II Bi-Polars out there that successfully treat with alternative things?

Since I'm type II, I don't get manic, I get hypomanic. I like being hypomanic because I'm happy, don't get irritated or angry easily and I sleep better. My biggest issue is with depression and anger. I've tried so many psych meds and haven't ever had good results with them. Is anyone able to treat themselves using SAMe or herbs or something else? I'm also a rapid cycler. I'm open to most alternative treatments. Thank you for your help.
----------

I'm also type II...I have been on and off of meds quite a bit. I really like alternative/natural treatments, or rather the idea of them. Nothing has ever worked long-term for me, except Lamictal. The best luck I had without meds was when I did a few things:
1) kept a regular sleep schedule
2) exercised daily
3) avoided alcohol, drugs, and caffeine (as much as possible)
4)kept a mood diary
5) ate healthy
6) took supplements with omega 3 in it

It's about cylothymia, but it's quite similar to Bipolar II. The website has some good mood diaries and other helpful tools. Good luck to you!  (+ info)

Is a level II Ultrasound the same as a 3D ultrasound?

I had a quad screen and everything came back normal. However, I have scoliosis (that was severe enough it needed surgery). So the doctor wants me to have a level II ultrasound just be extra sure the spine is ok, etc.

I was wondering, will a level II ultrasound be 3D? Or is just a much clearer view of the same regular ultrasound screen?

Thanks!
----------

No, they are not the same. The 3D / 4D ultrasounds are more of a novelty to give you images of your baby . . . so that you will have an idea of what the little one looks like. The level II ultrasound is more indepth and views the internal organs, anatomy, structures etc . . . a level II machine may have the 3D capabilities but this is really not what they are looking at.

It will probably look very similar to the regular ultrasound screen.

Best wishes for a happy & healthy pregnancy!  (+ info)

Is it bad to miss phase II of your sleep cycle, for a few nights?

I am waking up with horrible panic attack-like sensations after about 30 minutes of sleeping.

I have been looking around online and was reading about sleep phases. I have noticed that I can sleep properly if I stay up untill about 6am and have come to the conclusion that it is because I miss phase II and go straight to a deep sleep.

Is this possible?

If so, is it bad if I do this until I get diagnosed and treatment?

Thanks in advance.
----------

Only you will know if it's bad when you either do or don't notice side effects.
Doctor's always react negatively to self-diagnosis or unusual solutions so they will say don't do it, especially if you've been looking for answers on the interenet already, docs really seem to hate that. Of course, they could be right, you obviously have some kind of problem or you wouldn't be having panic attacks.  (+ info)
