Has anyone out there had a brachial plexus neuritis: amyotrophic neuralgia?

If so what caused it?

My neurologist said mine was caused by the kidney infection I had.

Also do you have a pre-existing chronic neurological condition as well? or Lupus?

Could you email me if so? Please?

How can I recover faster from Brachial Neuritis?

I have extreme weakness in my left arm. It's getting better but i need to get better faster.
----------

Unfortunately, nerves are among the slowest-healing tissues in the body and there is no way to significantly speed up recovery of damaged nerves. Repeated use of the nerves by performing relaxed range of motion exercises is more or less the best you can do on your own. There are machines that can electrically stimulate nerves, but you need to go to the docs office for this, and i have no idea if it would be appropriate for your particular situation.

The inflammation caused by a nerve injury can sometimes be relieved within days to weeks by taking Alleve or Ibuprofen at the max does on the labels. This can greatly reduce any uncomfortable nerve sensations, but it won;t do anything for the weakness.  (+ info)

About 8 months ago i fell off my motorcycle and injured Brachial plexus?

I had no use of my triceps one side of my forearm and hand. slowly my triceps and forearm have began to work, the nerve has now growing in to my hand. and i was wondering if i would get full use of my hand again? has any one the same problem and made a full recovery
----------

Lewis, the rule of thumb in this is that peripheral nerve regrows at a rate of about 1 cm per month. So what you have to do it figure the distance from the armpit to the thumb. That will give you an approximate idea of how long recovery is going to be. As to the specifics of what might return that is going to be somewhat of a guess. If there is nothing that is stopping the budding, regrowth, of the nerve down the shaft then recovery chances are good. I am sure that they will give you periodic EMG's to see what is happening. You are the best indicator of what is going on by what you feel or what you can start to do.  (+ info)

can massage help a brachial plexus injury?

my friend was in a car accident and she has one of these injuries that caused her left arm to stop functioning... Just wondering if massage can help
----------

If you are in the US, that is way beyond the scope of massage, despite the fact that some practitioners think they are qualified to provide physical therapy. Massage practitioners in the US are not qualified to diagnose or treat any physical injury.

She needs to see a physical therapist who may prescribe massage, but probably not.  (+ info)

Clinical features include severe pain in the shoulder region which may be accompanied by MUSCLE WEAKNESS and loss of sensation in the upper extremity. This condition may be associated with VIRUS DISEASES; IMMUNIZATION; SURGERY; heroin use and other conditions. The term brachial neuralgia generally refers to pain associated with brachial plexus injury.

Treatment includes analgesics and physical therapy, with resolution of symptoms usually occurring in three to four months. Patients with cervical radiculopathy present with simultaneous pain and neurologic deficits that fit a nerve root pattern.
