Tomorrow I'm going to the doctors to find out about a cyst on my breast, what should I expect?

I have an appointment tomorrow to check on a cyst that I have behind my nipple on my breast. What should I expect?
----------

it depends on your age.
Younger females in their twenties often present with cysts in their breasts that are painfull.
You can expect the dr to take a proper history, examine the breast and that he might stick a needle into it to do cytological testing.  (+ info)

Can a breast cyst be caused by a hormonal imbalance?

I am a 14 year old girl. Got my period Jan. 2007, got it irregularly and the last time I got it was Sept.2007. I am set to get tests done this summer to see why I don't have it, and I think I may have a hormonal imbalance. I have also recently found a few painful lumps in my breast. Is it possible that these lumps are cysts caused by a hormonal imbalance?
----------

It's likely that being only 14 your hormones are still all over the place. It can take a while for them to settle into a pattern, from several months to 3 or 4 years.
It is very common for changing hormones to cause thickening and lumpy breast tissue.
It's always a good idea to see a doctor if you are worried just for peace of mind.  (+ info)

What would happen if i got on birth control with a tumor/cyst in breast?

I have a benign tumor in my breast..meaning it wont cause any harm like death or side effects besides pain the doctor said its up to me if i want to get surgery and get it out but since im not big chested, if they remove the tumors my breast will dimple so imma just leave it in. So i want to get on the birth control pill but i was told the estrogen in the bc pill irritates the tissue around the tumor. Will i hurt myself if i got on the pill?
----------

No one can and will take upon him or herself such a risk as advising you to take or not to take b/c. I suggest you read some of these sites:

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&rls=com.microsoft%3Aen-US&q=estrogen+and+cancer

and decide what risks you want to take upon yourself. Rembmer that you can use and IUD without hormones.  (+ info)

I have a lump on my left breast, doctors said it was not a cyst, i need surgery what could it possibly be?

I and my doctor found a lump in my breast. I went for an ultrasound and they said it was not a cyst. I am 17 about to be 18 so i know breast cancer is very rare. I have to get surgery to removeit but i was wondering what it could possibly be if it is not a cust. They said it is solid and it has blood flow.. soo i have noo idea!
----------

My mother just passed away from breast cancer. The same thing happened to her but they did not attempt to remove it. I would highly suggest requesting a CT scan or MRI to confirm...  (+ info)

what are the dangers of a cyst popping IN your breast?

I have a cyst in my right breast and i have chest pains all the time, and i want to know if it popping would cause any dangers in my body... or leading to breast cancer
----------

IN your breast, with chest pains? That doesn't sound like some acne that you should be popping - it sounds like something a doctor should check out! It could be some kind of infection, or even cancer.

Don't wait - if it is cancer, the longer you wait, the less your chance of a full recovery!  (+ info)

What are the symptoms of a breast cyst?

I have had a small tender spot above my heart, on my chest for the past year. Until recently I have not felt a lump. I have just begun to notice that it becomes much more painful the week before my period. I also am now feeling a very small bump. I am a 23 year old female...could this be a cyst?
----------

Get it check right away to be safe. My 2 tumors felt the same way. Fortunately they were not cancer. Don't take a chance with your life. See if it moves around when you try to feel it. Make an appointment in the morning. Good luck.  (+ info)

How do you tell the difference between a cyst and a tumor in an ultrasound of the breast?

I have a ultrasound in a couple days to find out which one it is (tumor or cyst) and I was wondering what the difference is that they look.
and also can they always tell which one it is by a ultrasound? they said a mammogram would do no good since I'm 17 they said the tissue is too dense.
----------

Actually, any lump is technically a tumour.......it's whether it's malignant or benign that is the issue. A cyst is round and encapsulated and usually filled with pus or fluid and they are benign. They don't usually grow very quickly. A malignant tumour isn't encapsulated but a mass and it it grows and spreads quickly.
If the tissue is too dense to determine, if there was any real concern they would do a biopsy.  (+ info)

How can you feel the difference between a cyst and a tumor on the breast?

For the first time I'm starting to be concerned. I'm 17 so I always told myself I'm too young for cancer or my odds would be very low. I had a swollen node under my jaw for 3 years and now I have a bunch of something in my breast so I went to the doctor and he seemed very concerned especially after telling him my family history of breast cancer so he's having me get a ultrasound in a couple days (the soonest opening they had was in 2 weeks but he squeezed me into wednesday) now I have to wait till then so in the mean time I'm trying to figure out by feel if they could be cysts or tumors. I have been feeling really tired for the last couple months and the skin moves over them... they aren't very soft.
----------

You can't.

Only the tests designed for that purpose can tell you that - that's why your doctor can't tell you.

Before I was diagnosed with breast cancer, the first two doctors who examined me (one a cancer specialist) thought from the feel of the lump that it probably wasn't cancerous. It was. If they can't tell, you can't.

Good luck on Wednesday. Bear in mind that most breast lumps aren't cancerous, that breast cancer is almost unheard of in under 25s (rare in women under 40, in fact, and 80 per cent of those diagnosed are over 50), and that hereditary breast cancer is very rare.

Also, tiredness isn't a symptom of breast cancer; and I think I remember you posting before and saying that the lump was painful - most cancerous breast lumps aren't.

Hope those facts help you worry a bit less until Wednesday  (+ info)

Last night I felt a 'pop' in my L breast during the night. Now my breast is very sore. Did a cyst burst?

I have a history of fibroid cysts. I have had two masses removed that were benign. I heard and felt the 'pop' in my breast, and today the pain is unreal in my left breast and left upper arm. I am a RN but have never heard of this before. Do you think it is a Cyst that burst?
----------

You should def see a doctor and get a mammogram. I've never heard of this happening before. You should get it checked, because toxins could be leaking into your breast and could cause a serious infection.  (+ info)

How likely is it that my Breast Cyst could cause Cancer?

I am having it removed next week hopefully but i am just worried as the Doctor says it could come back...

I just want to know how likely it is that it could be Cancerous.
----------
