Is liquid Albuterol for my 3 1/2 month old baby with bronchiolitis ok?

The Doctor prescribed in for a week 3x a day 2ml. I have noticed that most people are giving their infants the nebulizer. Is that a better approach. I am a new mom and worried cause today the week is up and he still has the bad cough. I wonder if I should request the nebulizer.
----------

Albuterol is a bronchodilator whether given as liquid or neb. For thoses of you who don't know, albuterol comes as an oral solution as well as a neb and inhaler. The liquid is good for a child so young. Trust your doc. Also, albuterol will only help the bronchiolitis, the inflamation part cannot be helped by the albuterol, only bronchospasm. Do let him know that baby is not getting better.  (+ info)

Anyone had an infant with bronchiolitis?

What treatment did you do? How did they recover and what were there symptoms? Thanks, doc said my baby has it, we thought it was pneumonia but he isn;t running fever so she thinks its that instead.
----------

First off how old is your baby? From your pi9c he looks young so be very careful and keep a close eye on him. My son had this repeatedly from about 2 months, he also has asthma and he did get pneumonia also. My son had really bad wheezing and a terrible cough, he had a high fever and generally very unwell, although some times when he had it it was not so bad. It can be treated with antibiotics but some doctors prefer not to give them, i used a vaporiser, chest rub and panadol. The cough can last up to a couple of weeks. good luck hope he is better soon and again just make sure you keep an eye on his breathing and color of his skin.  (+ info)

Any of your little ones have Bronchiolitis?

What did you do to help them? Did you have to take them to the hospital and if so how did you know you needed to take them to the hospital?
----------

Yes, the doctor said that is what our little one had. We suctioned out her nose regularly, used a humidifier in her room, had her sleep inclined in her car seat, kept her head up so she didn't gag on her mucus when feeding and holding her, and gave her a nebulizer treatment with albuterol every 6 hours. They said if she was lethargic and/or having problems breathing to take her to the ER. She did get a fever, lethargic, and it was hard for her to breath so we took her to the ER after talking on the phone with her doctor. At the ER, they gave her an antiboitic shot because it looked like she had the start of pnemonia from the xrays and a prescription for amoxicilan and told us to keep doing the other things we were and see our regular doctor in a few days. It was scary, but after about a week, she is now back to her old self and eating tons to catch up with not feeling like eating when sick.

Good luck!  (+ info)

Why is bronchiolitis more dangerous for infants than adults?

My child was hospitalized for bronchiolitis at 3 months old.?

What are the chances of my son who developed bronchiolitis at 3 months of age bad enough to be hospitalized to develop asthma? His bronchiolitis was not caused by RSV - it was some other unknown virus. Help! I'm freaked out!
----------

Children with a history of bronchiolitis and other respiratory problems have a higher rate of asthma diagnosis at later ages. Now don't misread that - it does NOT say it is always asthma. It does not say the early problems cause asthma. It just says that asthma is more common among that group of children.

Don't freak here. First, Asthma is common and manageable. If your child has a suggestive history it is more likely to be managed early. Right now just start keeping a non-obsessive diary of breathing problems and things that may have triggered them - colds, food changes, seasonal plants, pets, etc. It may come in handy later.

What is "Bronchiolitis Obliterans with Organizing Pneumonia?"?

Serious respondents only. My Dad is 81 and has been diagnosed with this. I would like to know what it is, how it can be treated, and where to go on the Internet for additional information.

My family members are Christians and we believe in healing prayers. If led by the Lord, please pray for him (his name is George).

Thanks and God Bless!

Bronchiolitis obliterans organizing pneumonia (BOOP)is an idiopathic condition in which granulation tissue obstructs bronchioles and alveolar ducts with chronic inflammation and organizing pneumonia in adjacent alveoli. It mimics infectious pneumonia. However, diagnosis is suspected after there is no response to multiple antibiotics and blood and sputum cultures are negative for organisms. Patients with BOOP almost always have a pre existing chronic inflammatory disease like rheumatoid arthritis.
Please see the web pages for more details on BOOP.  (+ info)

2 yr old has bad cough, he suffers with bronchiolitis often. he has been on antibiotics for almost ten days?

for sinus infection. He takes zyrtec daily and hasn't been diagnosed with anything except allergies. why is he continuously sick with this cough? is there anything i can do to prevent this cough that keeps returning? it is a rhaspy deep tight cough. over the counter meds don't work and doctors keep telling me that it has to run its course. but it never completely goes away. any ideas or suggestions from your experience with this will be helpful. thanks.

is he doing breathing treatments for his bronchitis? maybe if you could talk the doc into setting you up with a nebulizer for a while he could get over this. goodluck.

E, dont tell people to put on all that stuff to go into the bathroom and inhale miosture. that works fine just with out all the stuff. just going in and sitting in the steam filled room will make him inhale the moist air and help his lungs. half right.  (+ info)

What is the specific microorgaism that causes Bronchiolitis (BOOP) obliterans with Organizing Pneumonia?

BOOP is a confusing and outdated term. The American Thoracic Society & European Respiratory Society updated the current terminology in 2002 as cryptogenic organizing pneumonia (COP). This is for several reasons. First, not all COP involves bronchiolitis. Second, there are several different forms of bronchiolitis. Third, there are many causes of organizing pneumonia.

By definition, COP is due to an unknown etiology ("cryptogenic"). However, organizing pneumonia can be due to many causes. In these cases, the proper terminology would be "organizing pneumonia associated with...". These may include:

bacterial pneumonia
aspiration pneumonia
drug reactions
diffuse alveolar damage
collagen vascular disease

5 month old baby indrawhing with bronchiolitis?

For 3 days my baby (5 months) has been indrawing from having RSV bronchiolitis. Took him to see peids doctor yesterday and they put him on flovent, ventalin and pedia-pred. Still today he is having indrawing from it and is wheezing. When will this stop and should i take him into emerge? thanks in advance
----------

Take him to emergency dept. typically day 3-4 of bronch, babies can get a lot worse. If he is not feeding and having reduced wet nappies then you need to take him ASAP. Not all babies can cope very well with RSV bronch and the danger is that they could tire out from increased work of breathing and get very very poorly. As it is a virus, support will be oxygen if he needs it and monitoring. more interventions as necessary depending how he is.  (+ info)

my 4 month old son has Bronchiolitis what do i do?

i have taken my 4 month old son to the doctor and im still not happy my son has Bronchiolitis and i was given antibiotics for him but was told that would not help him he gets worse of an evening and coughs for about 2 mins and struggles to breath when he is like that should i take him to the hospital? it tires him out all the coughing and i feel so sorry for him as i feel there is nothing i can do for him
hope someone can help me.
thanx.
----------

I do breathing treatments, sterioids or antibiotics, and a cough suppresant. If he has problems breathing, take him to an ER so they can do a chest x-ray. It may be something way worse than bronchitis.  (+ info)
