Organ Donor. I would like to donate my organs, but do not want my body used as a cadaver.?

How can I insure my body would not be used as a cadaver to do experiments on. Take my organs and thats it.
----------

When you sign up to be an organ donor, it's a separate option whether you would like to allow your whole body to be used for medical science/research. Just check the box that says you want to donate any of your organs or tissues, but not your whole body.  (+ info)

Cadaver graft vs hamstring for ACL surgery?

I'm choosing between the two. Anyone have any bad experiences with hamstring? Does it only require 2 bioabsorbable screws or does it require other things to fasten it?
----------

My husband had his ACL replaced with a piece of his hamstring and screws. It was the best choice he ever made. He is fully recovered, has 99% mobility back and he's says it moves and feels great.
Scar was minimal also!

If you have any questions about his surgery you can email me at:

Can a cadaver bone be rejected after surgery?

My friend fractured his wrist in several places. He had surgery to have a plate put in. However, the damage was more extensive than expected so he also used a cadaver bone as well. Could his body reject this bone replacement?
----------

Theoretically, it can reject the bone, it is less likely to reject bone than it is to reject something like an organ. It would act like it was getting infected if it was rejecting.  (+ info)

Cadaver skin grafts in dental surgery?

I ask in the dental category because that's the only case I've seen it used. A small section of tissue is inderted under the gum to build up the facial gum tissue in patients. Is this a new procedure? Has anyone else had this done?

Why do people feel that it's "okay" to use cadaver bone for things like bone grafts?

From a moral standpoint, that is one of the most disgusting things ever - having parts of a bone from a dead person transplanted to your mouth to permanently dwell. I personally don't think I'd be able to live with myself if I had a part of someone else that I was carrying around, as that violates a lot of my moral values and I do not agree with it.

Does another type of synthetic material exist, instead? Is it more expensive?
----------

The synthetic materials exist, but they're nowhere near as good as the real thing. On top of that, the donor signs a form prior to his death saying that he wants to donate his organs, meaning he is giving his body parts to those who need it. It's not like they harvested it without consulting the guy before he died. The donor just wanted to be a good person, both in life and in death.  (+ info)

What does a cadaver smell like?

Since my neighbours moved out, no-one has moved in yet, though the house has been bought. I heard movement in there about 2 weeks ago but nothing since and now there is a weird smell coming from the house. HELP!!
i know that if it's a corpse i should contact the authorities, but i don't want to be calling the police if it's just that they didn't take the bin out and it's the leftover food that's gone bad. Can't someone explain the smell to me?
----------

I lived with a man (or rather he lived with me) for over twelve years, and he died of cancer in my home. It is kind of a long explaination which I won't go into now, but I didn't know he was dead for almost a week. The door to the room he was in, reamined closed, and I didn't really notice the odor. I guess I kind of got used to it, because it gradually increased over time. But, the police could tell the second they walk in the front door. And it was a great deal more noticeable, even to me, once that bedroom door was open. And of course, strongest odor was in the room itself, and it took a long time to get rid of it. I really can't describe the odor, because I can't recall ever having smelled anything like it before, but it is a sickening odor, and the stronger it gets the more sickening it gets. If you have any real reason at all to suspect that something may be wrong, I would definately call the police.  (+ info)

Are there Germs on a cadaver?

I was at a funeral today and I was wondering if the body is clean because I touched it. Thanks.
----------

Your body is completely covered with bacteria as well as your insides. When you die, alot of the bacteria will keep living on for a little while. The ones that reley on things you eat and other stuff like that will eventually be killed off by some of the more dangerous ones like Staph and Strep. Normally a person has most of there organs and fluids drained after they die and then they are pumped full of preservatives. These slow down the decomposition process but doesn't stop it.

I saw a special on the funeral and kidnapping of President Lincon's body. They transported his body by train for like 2 weeks and he didn't start to show signs of decomposition until the end.

So to some up... yes a cadaver has bacteria on it. Hope this helps.  (+ info)
