Cat scratch disease & enlarged spleen?

My mom was severely bitten by my neurotic cat 15~20 years ago (no stitches required, but the site still itches occasionally to this day). At the time, she didn't have any noticeable symptoms of cat scratch disease. However, she was recently diagnosed with a low platelet count and possibly enlarged spleen; is it possible that this symptom of cat scratch disease is only manifesting itself now?

Thanks for any answers!

any disease untreaded is liable to be serious later on. It's just not possible to say what you write is correct though. The condition is likely to be entirely from a different cause. That many years ago is way too long to have something of this nature show so much later.  (+ info)

is cat scratch disease contagious?

my grandson has this cat scratch disease with swollen lymp noids but no drainages
----------

Nope. It doesn't spread from person to person; in natural settings it's only acquired through the scratch or bite of an infected animal.  (+ info)

Help me with my cat scratch disease please :(?

I am suffering from Cat Scratch Disease. I have been through 3 courses of various antibiotics. I am now on Steriods because my shoulder does not work and is inflamed. All of the glands in my neck, shoulders, and now my right side of my groin area are swollen. I have a fever everyday even though I take prescription strength Aleve. I have no energy and am trying to work. (I am a teacher). I'm getting worse. My doctor says my cat scratch disease should be better by now and is testing for other things. It still feels the same and my symptoms are the same, just worse. What am I going to do?

Has anyone had Cat Scratch Disease?

I'd like to know how it progressed after the lymphs swelled up and what finally happened? Mass under my arm is turning red and not going down. Docs don't know anything and I've been to them already, so don't say go to the doctor.

Should I get rid of the cats that may have given my husband cat-scratch disease?

My husband recently had what we thought to be a tumor removed. Turns out it was something called necrotizing granuloma, likely (but not certainly) caused by cat-scratch disease. Now he wants to get rid of the cats, for the sake of our kids, who are both under 3 years old. Is this a reasonable request? Medically informed answers VERY welcome here. And yes, we will talk to the doctor more about it but we were just told this about an hour ago before we knew it may be cat-scratch disease and I just want some thoughts before we go see a specialist doctor.
----------

I wouldn't get rid of the cats. This illness is NOT common but does happen. Have your cats had all their inoculations? Provided everyone including the cats are up to date on their shots you should be OK. Have the cats been neutered/spayed? That can affect the cats behavior. You must always be careful with a child around any animal anyway. An animal may react negatively to a child pulling on their fur etc. Just be careful and enjoy the whole family!!  (+ info)

Has anyone ever had cat scratch fever (disease?)?

Is it possible to have this problem? about a month ago I was playing with the cat, and she scratched me with her back paws..I thought nothing of it, but then was hit hard with fatigue, slight fevers, chills...it was weird. I thought something was wrong with me (mono or something), so I went in for blood work, everything came out fine and healthy...it never occurred to me it could have been the scratch.

well three days ago I was playing with her again and she did the same thing...and now I am going through with the weird fatigue slight fever, kind of out of it dizzy feeling, red around the scratch on my hand, lymph nodes feel a bit swollen....
or am I WAY off here?
the thing is my brother plays with and gets scratched occasionally and he said he has no problems....

Do I have cat-scratch disease?! If not, what?

I went to the doctor today, and I've had a swollen, hard lymph node in my neck for 5-6 weeks. I have a sore throat, but I think it's from drainage from a sinus infection a while back. The only symptom I have is this hard swollen, 3 centimeter lymph node. I got my blood tested, and everything's fine. Also, I've had this cat for about a year, and my mom's a vet tech so he's healthy except for his diabetes. He's been scratching me for a year, and never on my neck, so what's going on here?

there is no answer for the behavior of the cats. but it may be that he is becoming increasingly hostile due to a change in his environment.  (+ info)

I think Ive got cat scratch disease, but the doctors say its a cold sore virus, what else could it be?

The end of last year my cat jumped on me in the night and pawed my nose to wake me up,when he did this he scratched me. The next day my nose and side of my face had swelled up and my nose was blistering and weeping. I went to the doctors where they gave me antibiotics. After a number of days the swelling on my face went down but my nose was still the same, I went back again and this time the doctor gave me a cream to put on my nose. This helped but I was left with my nose being slightly red. Since then every month my nose flairs up again blistering and weeping I usually get a warning but this last time I didn't and I woke up with it,the doctor is adamant it is a cold sore virus but I really need something for it to stop it coming back once and for all. Im getting married in October and knowing my luck I will wake up that morning with my nose bad. Does anyone have any ideas what else it could be or anything I could take for it? Any advice would be great? Thanks
Thanks guys. Never had cold sores ever before.
----------

It certainly sounds like a herpes infection (a cold sore), which typically will recur, at erratic intervals, in the same spot over and over. Usually there is a prodrome of tingling or itching, before the eruption occurs, but not always. It generally shows up as a red-based grouping of blisters which quickly break downn to form a honey colored crust. The treatment generally is with Acyclovir, and if the eruption occurs frequently enough, you should be on that drug every day. If it's only every now and then, then u take the drug intermittently, when the eruption occurs. To make sure of the diagnosis, it's easy enough for your doctor to take a culture of the eruption when it's new.  (+ info)

tell me about cat scratch disease?

Depends on what you want to know. I had cat scratch fever several years ago. It's not particularly debilitating, but it will put you out of commission for a few days. It typically comes from younger cats, and it's most commonly the result of scratches around the head or neck. In addition to the fever, I experienced painful swelling of the glands in my neck. I took some medicine, but the main treatment was time.  (+ info)

did i catch cat scratch disease ?

i got 3 itchy bumps on my palm, i applied some moisturizing cream.. the kitten is 6-7 weeks old.. am i allergic to it ? should i take anti-biotics ? any advice is welcome

PS
i havent vaccinated it yet..
----------

You don't have cat scratch fever. The symptoms of that are large swollen painful lymph nodes and usually a high fever. You get quite ill. What you have might have nothing to do with the cat, might be an allergy, might be flea bites. Hard to say. If itchy bumps are all you have, you don't need antibiotics.  (+ info)
