What's the best cure for a come down?

I took quite a bit of MDMA last night and now just chilling with a cup of coffee listening to some Catatonia...nice =].... Going to get some sleep soon then go hit the club scene again tonight.

What's you're best come down cure?

Personally, I like a snuggle on the sofa with my flatmate, duvet wrapped round us both, big mugs of hot tea and a good movie.

My friend is in a Catatonic state?

My friend is in the hospital in a catatonic state. He takes anti depressants and they mixed with sleeping pills since he is an insomniac, and he now rests in a catatonic state. If you have any information about how he could pull through, PLEASE, answer this :/ and he does not or never has had catatonia
----------

"Features of catatonia may also be seen in Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome (NMS) which is an uncommon (but potentially lethal) reaction to some medications used to treat major mental illnesses. NMS is considered a medical emergency since 25% of untreated cases result in death. Catatonia can also be present in individuals suffering from a number of other physical and emotional conditions such as drug intoxication, depression, and schizophrenia. It is most commonly associated with mood disorders.

Prognosis
Catatonia usually responds quickly to medication interventions."

"he does not or never has had catatonia" ...and if he's in a catatonic state now that means he does have it.

"Signs and symptoms

The first symptom to develop is usually muscular rigidity, followed by high fever, symptoms of instability of the autonomic nervous system such as unstable blood pressure, and changes in cognition, including agitation, delirium and coma. Other symptoms may include muscle tremors and pharyngitis. Once symptoms do appear, they rapidly progress and can reach peak intensity in as little as three days. These symptoms can last anywhere from eight hours to forty days.

A raised creatine phosphokinase (CPK) plasma concentration will be reported due to increased muscular activity and rhabdomyolysis (destruction of muscle tissue). The patient may suffer hypertensive crisis and metabolic acidosis. A non-generalised slowing on an EEG is reported in around 50% of cases. White blood cells go up in the blood.

Unfortunately, symptoms are sometimes misinterpreted by doctors as symptoms of mental illness, delaying treatment.[1] NMS is less likely if a person has previously been stable for a period of time on antipsychotics, especially in situations where the dose has not been changed and there are no issues of noncompliance or consumption of psychoactive substances known to worsen psychosis."

As with most illnesses, the prognosis is best when identified early and treated aggressively. In these cases NMS is usually not fatal. Best of luck to you and your friend, wishing him a speedy recovery and keep your chin up.  (+ info)

Help for severely mentally ill?

I have depression with boughts of catatonia and for the most part can not take care of myself anymore, i've become emaciated and have very few "good days" I am told by my doctors that I need to consider long term hospitalization but i dont have insurance , are there any public hospitals still around or only short term private ones?

Need a diagnosis please; subject constantly mutters to themself in public, cannot read without having to frown

in concentration and having to read out loud the words, slowly, for them to sink in, is slow to react to anything and slow to take things in.They are repetitive and say erm...erm before every sentence. When their child has got upset or fustrated at their parent about it the parent has told the child they are mad, imagining things and that they are a bad, troublesome child. Is this condition semi-catatonia, OCD, ADHD, or just a product of the parent being a spoilt child themself when they were young?

I belive animals get depressed just like we do. Of course if you pet came from a nonreputable breder who allowed them to inbreed then chances there are mental or physical illnesses. Jenn  (+ info)

Do I still have Bipolar Disorder?

If your free of symptoms of bipolar does that mean I dont have bipolar anymore? am I still classed as being ill? Because I do still drink and I do have days when I do get agitated like I clap my hands and wave my arms and jump about but dosent last and isnt bad enough to warrant a problem...except that it might be like catatonia or something I dont know.
----------

once you have a mental illness (and bipolar is a mental illness) you always have it. it is just being kept under very good control for right now. i'm so glad right now that things are going so well for you and i pray that they might continue to do so but please don't make the mistake of so many others (like i made once when my meds were working really well and i thought that i was cured). there is no cure for mental illness at least not yet but the day is coming. just be thankful for what you have but always be watchful. the fact that you have days where you get agitated, clap your hands, wave your arms and jump about shows that you are still suffering from bipolar but as long as it does not interfere with your life and things that you like to do or need to do i would not worry about it. lecture here: PLEASE DO NOT DRINK ... PERIOD. alcohol is not good for people with mental illness and especially not if you are taking meds for it. they do not mix well. so for you sake and your health PLEASE STOP NOW.  (+ info)

i am under the suspicion that my 93 year old father has what they call catatonic symptoms----?

brought on by two falls, brain surgery and depression,i did some research on this condition and i realised that my father exhibits some of the signs of catatonia,he doesnt speak on his own,he stares at the tv ,people and at me with the most hideous look on his face, its sort of like i know something you dont know type of look and its darn scary! what i want to know is what is the outlook for people afficted with this illness,do the ever come around? "SERIOUS ANSWERS PLEASE"!
----------

He's 93 years old. His body, including his brain, is wearing out. I wouldn't hold out much hope that anything is going to change.

Does he react to you at all? Or only just stares? It could be that he has had such an injury to his brain that he doesn't remember you at all, and is actually quite frightened at finding himself in a strange place, with strange people.

All you can hope to do is treat him with respect and love, and hope that his eventual passing is painless.  (+ info)

do i have schizophrenia?

hey guys, i've recently started to think that i may have schizophrenia given the fact that i have noticed some unusual psychological and behavioral abnormalities in myself, however i'm not entirely sure which symptoms are considered normal and which ones are abnormal.....to sum it up, i have been displaying the following symptoms: delusions (false beliefs), anhedonia (inability to experience joy or pleasure), hypersensitivity (to criticisms, insults etc.), rapidly changing mood (happy to sad in like 2 seconds), low motivation, depression, social anxiety, social isolation and withdrawal, unusual repetitive and ruminating thoughts, difficulty expressing thoughts verbally, in the past i have also had brief periods in which i exhibited symptoms of catatonia.....i haven't had any hallucinations yet, the main symptom that i have noticed are delusions of almost every kind, furthermore i spend a lot of time obsessing over unusual thoughts and these obsessions and strange thoughts drive me crazy and have a strange kind of control over my life. I am aware that some of the symptoms that i have mentioned are characteristic of other disorders such as bipolar disorder etc. but i felt it wud be more useful if i mention everything....so ya let me know what you guys think and please no stupid answers, this is a fairly serious matter, thanks guys!
----------

Wow, you have so many symptoms.
I know many people with schizophrenia (who I have met on psychiatric wards and self help groups) and they are not aware of their symptoms, it is only when they are pointed out by family and friends that it comes to their attention, and even then it is not always accepted. I am not a mental health professional so I couldn't say for definate, but I don't think you have schizophrenia. I do think you need to speak to a mental health professional as you clearly have issues.  (+ info)
