Could this be Cerebrospinal Fluid leak???

Could this be Cerebrospinal Fluid leak???
i was blowing my nose.. and out of no where it poored out like water!! it was so thin and wateryand clear and alot just poored out...

i was looking up Cerebrospinal Fluid leaks and now im concerned.. i dont have a head ache or anything but yesterday i hit my nose? lol
----------

Absolutely no worry that the clear drainage you saw was cerebral-spinal fluid...You sinus cavities are in now way opened to the spinal fluid...all your sinus area has within is cavities[spaces] that are interconnected...with some mucous lining that often times may congest or flare causing sinus congestion or sinus headaches etc...Relax...no cerebro-spinal fluid there!
And it is tru that ANY alteration in the spinal fluid will cause intense headache beyond bearable...you would think it was the end of your world if you ever felt the intensity...[I have been there]...Take care!  (+ info)

Can the level of Inositol in the cerebrospinal fluid actually be measured?

"Patients suffering from clinical depression generally have decreased levels of Inositol in their cerebrospinal fluid." - en.wikipedia.org

I read the above statement in the article about Inositol on en.wikipedia.org

Can the level of Inositol in the cerebrospinal fluid actually be measured?

I was wondering about taking cerebrospinal fluid samples through intrathecal means to determine the level of Inositol, much like measuring the level of insulin in the body through blood samples.

If the above statement appearing in wikipedia, is confirmed it would open new ways for an objective diagnosis of clinical depression which
then no one could criticize.
----------

You can measure it, but it's diagnostically useless. It's really just a matter of extracting the CSF and running it through GC/MS, unless there's some form of spectroscopy I'm unaware of for inositol. Taking something like that and turning it into a diagnostic test requires gathering utter mountains of clinical data to establish the specificity and sensitivity of that test.

Also, there's a tremendous risk associated with CSF sampling from the spine that would prevent it from being widely used.  (+ info)

i was told at a recent spinal tap that my cerebrospinal fluid pressure was high what does that mean? i have MS

I have greater than 9 lesions on my brain, and severe neuropathy, and difficulty walking

Hi Patricia:

Sounds like you've had to deal with many complications of MS, and I can't begin to imagine how hard that must be. I have a few ideas to share, though I'm not a specialist. I hope they'll be of some help to you.

It occurred to me that high cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) pressure could be due to many things, and not any one particular thing. Also, how this finding is interpreted might depend upon the type of MS that you have. Perhaps increased pressure signals some change in your condition. The actual content of the CSF is probably important as well, and I wonder whether your doctor conveyed this info to you. Has this happened before? What action did your doctor take as a result of this latest finding (changing mediciation, ordering more tests, not changing anything, asking you to return for follow up)? Your doctor's response might give you some clues about what might be happening, but it's all guesswork until you know for sure. It would be best to put a call in to your doctor or the clinic nurse before your next visit. Please do it soon. It'll help you to worry less about what it might mean and give you more accurate information about your specific condition than any of us can in this forum.

Just wanted to mention that a woman I know benefits from having a friend or volunteer accompany her on medical visits to make sure that her questions are answered and so that a record of what was discussed is available if she wants to look over it later. When questions come up later on after the appointment, she records them on audiotape or on a notepad, if she can, so that she doesn't forget to ask them during her (usually rushed) doctor visits.

Hope this was helpful to you. Wishing you strength for the journey.  (+ info)
