Do you have a child(ren) with ADHD or other behavioral disorders?

What are your views on it?

My son has ADHD, and for people to claim that it is not real and I'm just trying to find an excuse to not deal with him is heartbreaking. Considering that I spend most of my waking life centered around my son positively and I work hard to help him everyday with his struggles. Have you come up against this?
----------

People who say that have no idea what they are talking about.

ADHD is very real, and to say its not is almost crazy. You must consider the fact that every single part of the human body and brain can have an inborn malfunction. For example if the eyes malfunction there are vision problems, if the lungs malfunction there are breathing problems.

The part of the brain that is responsible for concentration and behavior control can also malfunction and when it does there is ADHD. To say it doesn't exist is to say that that one part of the brain is magical as its the only part of the body that doesn't malfunction.

People often consider self control to be a learned behavior. But like anything the brain needs to make it happen. Self control is more biological than learned.

Its is also niave to say that an ADHD parent is lazy and thats why the get it diagnosed. If they knew very much they would see that it is actually the opposite. A parent of an ADHD child has to in fact work much much harder than a parent of a normal child. And once they are diagnosed you are very very busy.  (+ info)

Can anyone get me a list of mental disorders caused by child abuse?

Post traumatic stress disorder and depression are the biggies, but those of us who have suffered child abuse of any kind had a coping skill. Mine was an eating disorder. I could control my eating habits if not the rest of my world. Others develop other addictions like drinking or drugs. Some develop OCD so they can control something.  (+ info)

What do you know about child detachment disorders ?

Detachment Disorder - A condition in which a person has difficulty forming lasting relationships. Children with detachment disorder often are unable to be genuinely affectionate with others, have an underdeveloped conscience, and are not able to trust. Attachment Disorder, Detachment Disorder, and Reactive Attachment Disorder are used interchangeably.

There is loads of stuff on Google but mostly under attachment disorders rather than detachment.

Is my child going to inherit any of these Disorders?

Hypothermia
Bipolar
Depression (Major Depressive Disorder)
Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD)
Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
Conduct Disorder (CD)
Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD)

I know it's a lot.
----------

Well first of all, you cannot inherit hypothermia. You get hypothermia when you are left outside in the cold and your body temperature gets really low, thus leading to many problems including organ shutdown. As long as you don't leave your kid outside in the dead of winter he or she will be fine. Well, basically you must check whether or not any family members have had these disorders. The more immediate family they are and the more there are increase the likelihood. Finally, you can probably already get her tested for things like ADHD.  (+ info)

Any nutrition secrets or suggestions for right after birthing my child?

I am determined to get back in shape (i have been out of shape for 2 years now since my first child). I am not breast feeding with this child so what can I do to jumstart my metabolism and start getting back in shape. it has really affected my self esteem and I am ready to be the athletic person I USED TO BE! HElp!
----------

i ate lots of bananas after my daughter was born, they are slow releasing energy foods and they are low in fat and calories and pretty much everything else. you can't go wrong with fruit and vegetables. mostly i would avoid dieting. remember you just had a baby, your body had 40 weeks of turmoil give it a while to recover. gentle exercise and good food are the key for a few weeks. i went from a size 18 post pregnancy to a size 12 without any robust effort within about 4 months. i then started to get serious and am now back to the size i was before my son was born, a size 8.
please note the above sizes are UK size...  (+ info)

The biggest challange I have is getting enough calcium into my children. They don't like milk. I have tried every kind of milk you can think of! Yougurts and cheeses they eat fine, but I am always afraid that isn't enough. I look for calcium fortified foods, oj, cereal, etc. It's getting better, slowly but surely. The pediatrician is a big help along with public health and WIC in finding ways to get around picky eaters, or reassuring that things are ok.  (+ info)
