How to cure Hypertrophic Obstructive Cardiomyopathy without surgery?

You'll need to work with a Cardiologist on it. I think that Coreg is the only drug that actually improves the condition but they can also use diuretics, accupril, spironolactone, and digoxin to help you along.

You also need to cut out as much sodium from your diet as possible. Use the lesser sodium table salt or use some Mrs Dash salt substitute. Hire a meal replacement service to cook your meals for you so that you stay on a low sodium diet. Basically you're better off with all fresh food, everything made from scratch as most of the sodium is from the food processing that they do to keep the color and tastes.

You also need to be on a fluid restricted diet, no more than 2 litres of fluid a day. You even have to count the fluid in popsicles.

They only start on the Coreg when they think you're stable as it first weakens you and you have to start in small doses. I actually passed out on Coreg once, it was right after one of the dose increases, I had taken the bedtime dose really late and took the morning dose early, went to the bathroom and urinating lowered my blood pressure enough to black out and fall into the bathtub.

My Cardiomyopathy was dilated cardiomypathy so it was just enlarged and the walls hadn't thickened yet. Sounds like your heart has already remodeled and formed an obstruction. If there's too much remodeling there may be little that you can do about it.

Is it safe for my son use trampoline he has hypertrophic cardiomyopathy?

He is 5 years old and has been told he can run about with other kids witch he manages fine but he musnt really over exert himself hes loves going on our trampoline but keeps saying his heart is jumping about its probably the same for anyone but i worry with him beacause im not sure how far to let him go
if i can help it i dont want to stop him as the doctors have said let him lead as normal life as possible
HE IS TREATED WITH MEDICATION SYPROL--PROPANANOL
----------

I am a trampoline coach and would be very concerned about teaching your son.

It is safe provided he is rested every 3-5 minutes to resume his heart rate.

The trampoline is very taxing on the heart. It really exercises the heart hard, and the heart rate increases a lot in a very short period of time.

Other than speaking to a doctor, time his trampoline use and make sure he uses it in short bursts with rests in between of 5 minutes or until his heart rate decreases.  (+ info)

What to do with keloid or hypertrophic scar on rook piercing?

So I got my rook (upper cartilage piercing) pierced a little more than two months ago and within the first month, I noticed this bump encircling the hole of the piercing.

Compared to my unpierced rook, my pierced rook has that raised slightly reddish bump and is bigger/more swollen. However, it is not itchy and it doesn't hurt painfully. Just slightly tender when it is touched.

I went to my piercer and he said that it looks to be the start of a keloid. He advised me to do sea salt soaks and use tea tree oil. So I've been doing this for a full week and still I do not see any results. I have to say that doing all that salt soaking and putting on tea tree oil has made the piercing site even more tender. Is this normal?

It is also becoming drier, but I don't see any flaking. The size of the bump appears the same and it is not going away.

What should I do? Should I continue with the soaks and tea tree oil? Have any of you had similar experiences?

Thanks a lot.
----------

Make sure you are doing the sea salt soaks 2-3 times per day. The tea tree oil could be the reason it is becoming dry, even when diluted. Piercees find it to be too strong and very drying. If you continue using the tea tree oil apply no more than twice daily. Vitamin E oil could also help. Just clean it normally and try not to play with it and it should go away with time. A few piercers I know recommend diluted lavender oil. Lavender oil promotes healing and lubricates the wound reducing tenderness. Apply a small amount with a cotton bud after cleaning then move the jewelry gently so it gets into the wound. Remove any excess with a tissue as leaving it on can cause the skin to become irritated.  (+ info)

Is there anyone out there that has Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy who is also in their late teens?

My son has this condition and also has a defib so i was just wondering if there was someone out there who could share their story and maybe correspond with my son in regards to how they cope and their lifestyle.
----------

I was going to suggest asking this question at the HCM forum of the cardiomyopathy association, but I see you have already posted there.

I'm glad you're casting a wide net. You should be able to connect with people that share your questions and concerns.  (+ info)

How common is Hypertrophic / Keloid scarring with snug piercings?

I'm currently contemplating a snug piercing, and as you do.. I wanted to check what goes wrong with them. Then I saw pictures of these horrible red lumps and I was just wondering how common they are.

So please, could someone tell me - perhaps a piercer or someone who's profession involves dealing with piercings/scarring?

Thanks
----------

Keloiding is pretty rare, especially if it doesn't run in your family.

Hypertrophic scarring just depends on your body...it can be common in piercings and there really isn't much of a way you can tell if it will happen or not.

Good luck with it, my snug was nothing but problems.  (+ info)

Can people with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy have sex?

I was wondering if it was safe for HCM sufferers to have sex. My boyfriend has it, and is too scared to ask the doctor. He has a pacemaker. I can't find anything on the internet about it.
----------

Well it depends on the severity of the hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. Yes, many people with HCM can have sex. I know many men with HCM that even have several children. Sexual activity results in an increase in the heart rate and strength of contraction. Therefore the workload of the heart is increased. This is not a problem for people with normal hearts, but it could cause serious problems in someone with an underlying heart condition. There are two main concerns regarding HCM, which are decreased cardiac output related to the obstruction and the development of potentially fatal arrhythmias. I can guarantee you that your boyfriend does not have a pacemaker, but instead has an implantable cardiac defibrillator (ICD.) ICDs are commonly used in people with HCM to shock/convert them out of bad rhythms. Since your boyfriend has an ICD, the concern for arrhythmias is low because the ICD will treat it. The bigger concern is that the increased workload of the heart can worsen the obstruction related to HCM resulting in a decreased cardiac output. This could result in him passing out and the worst case scenario would be sudden death.

I do not know the details of your boyfriends HCM, therefore I cannot comment regarding this. He needs to discuss this with his Cardiologist. Sex is completely normal and not something to be ashamed about. I am sure his Cardiologist has been asked more interesting questions. I do not think his doctor will think anything differently of him if he asks about this. So tell him to stop being afraid and just ask. Good luck.  (+ info)

How do you get rid of hypertrophic scarring on piercings?

First, go get an actual non fake earring and then just keep it in and clean. It will do down time just make sure you don't get it dirty or anything.

Here's some good info and tips on treating scars
http://www.xanga.com/RiceBunny/679513466/scars-treatments-and-homemade-dyi-serums/

If you don't want to spend too much money, I'd suggest the last one with vitamin E and fish oil, but Mederma/Neosporin are also cheap alternatives. Also, tea tree oil helps for keloiding.

Keep in mind that everyone heals differently, so the scar might stick around or it might disappear. It depends on the conditions.  (+ info)
