Can you have swine flu without a fever?

My mum has a lot of the symptoms of swine flu; chills, tiredness, headaches, muscle ache, loss of appetite, joint pain (these are all symptoms cos I checked on the NHS website), but one she doesnt have is fever. Is it possible to have swine flu without the fever?
----------

As with any flu you can have some or all of the symptoms. If she is better shortly it would be best if she gets checked by her doctor. Some people just do not run a fever as easily as others. I don't, if I'm running a fever then I am very very sick.

You don't want to take a lot of chances with her symptoms if they persist because according to Dr. Anne Schuchat, director for National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases at the CDC. “This virus is a new one, and on top of that, we really still don’t know how it’s going to behave, swine flu behaves differently than seasonal flu in a number of ways, it’s able to spread in hot and humid weather, which is not usually the case for the seasonal flu virus.the infection appears to be more severe in young people and less severe in the elderly than the typical seasonal flu."

Just monitor her carefully and be sure to keep your immune system as healthy as possible. You don't both need to be sick.  (+ info)

why is swine flu so bad if a fever is just a way to fight infections?

why is swine flu so bad if a fever is just a way to fight infections?
----------

I read and also have been hearing that the media isn't just hyping it up, but that it is serious and we have no cure for it yet.

It's bad because the common flu doesn't kill you but this one does kill you, if your a young baby/child, unhealthy person, elderly person. Anyone who does not have a strong healthy immune system then this can kill them.

Yes, fevers fight infections but that doesn't mean that your body will absolutely get rid of that infection especially if it is FOUR DIFFERENT VIRUSES ALL IN ONE!

We have four vaccinations and only two are actually helping but is not a cure. They are worried that the virus will grow immune to the vaccinations and they will no longer work or that the virus will get a new strain added to the four strains of influenza it already has and then the vaccinations will no longer help.

We have the best scientists and doctors for the most part and they will find a cure but it may take some time. So the best thing to do is wash your hands frequently, use hand sanitizer frequently, wipe down the shopping cart and other things in public you will be touching with antibacterial wipes, don't touch your eyes, nose, or mouth. I read that you should stay 3-6 feet away from people in public that are coughing and sneezing, etc. You can also wear a face mask when you are in public if you are that afraid or if it is getting that bad in your area.

It came from Mexico, yes, but that doesn't mean that all Mexicans are dirty and unhealthy, and Americans are not immune to the swine flu virus so taking precautions would be a smart idea.

Anyone can get it, any age, any sex, any race. But the virus can only live in an attack an unhealthy body.

Don't stop living your life and stay locked up inside unless it actually ever got to that point which I do not believe it will get to that because again, we have good doctors and scientists who are working on a cure and other vaccinations to help stop this.  (+ info)

Does taking anti-cold & fever medication in the initial stages dangerously mask swine flu?

Everyone cant get a swab or a blood test done. If a person suspected of swine flu takes an anti-cold or fever medication, and if he/she DOES have SF, are they dangerously putting themselves at risk?
----------

Yeah, it does. If a SF victim takes analgesics or anti-cold or fever medicines, they mask the symptoms without getting rid of the virus.  (+ info)

In all cases of swine flu do you have a fever?

Im wondering this because i have all the symptoms of swine flu but no fever or extreme coughing. Could i still be at risk for having swine flu though?
----------

I think you need your temperature to be over 38 c to be classed as swine flu see web site below.  (+ info)

How long does the fever last if you get infected with the swine flu?

People have said they use Motrin to reduce the fever but the directions say to ask a doctor if the fever lasts for more that 3 days? But i heard of people who have had a fever for over 5 days and are still using Motrin...is that safe?
Thank you guys for all your good answers. :)
----------

How long a fever lasts depends on how efficient your immune system is. Fevers are just one mechanism of the immune system. You may know the purpose of a fever. You may also be aware that some people don't have fevers with all infections. A sign of a very efficient immune system, one that has other mechanisms of the immune system that manage infections with the need for a fever.

You've heard of people who have used Motrin for more than 5 days? That's fine. It's still short term. The caution to ask a doctor etc. is a good one and certainly one that helps protect Pfizer from law suits. It's not swine flu, it's novel H1N1 flu and it can last for up to 10 days. You can continue to use Motrin, etc. for as long as you have fever. But you can also use other cooling measures in addition to and instead of.  (+ info)

Is it possible to have the swine flu without having a fever?

My tempature has been 97.2 (yesturday) and 97.4 today. I haven't thrown up or anything but i've had nausea on and off, a headache, dizziness, and I am just now developing a cough, I had a sore throat last week that is now completly gone. My mom says she doesn't think it's the swine flu at all but is it possible?
----------

Well, your sudden temperature doesn't look great. If you have anything else such as Unusual tiredness, runny nose, shortness of breath, loss of appetite, aching muscles or diarrhoea/vomiting, you may have swine flu.

You should contact the national flu service at:
www.pandemicflu.direct.gov.uk or on: 0800 15 13 513

I'm currently working with Boots at the moment to raise awareness, so I hope this helps.  (+ info)

is it possible to have swine flu without a fever?

my brother has all of the symptoms, exept the fever.
sounds unlikely, but i was just wondering if it was possible, like early on symptoms?
----------

ALL influenza, flu, produces a fever.

A fever is produced when the body is sick and it has to work hard at getting better. This produces body heat. So a fever.
Think of a car that has been driven. It gets hot.
It's the same thing with our bodies.

I would say he doesn't have swine flu or any other flu.  (+ info)

What are the swine flu symptoms? And how do I get rid of a fever & cough?

My symptoms; coughing (sore throat), dizzy, 99.9 fever, hot flashes.

What I've been taking- airborne, advil, tea, and sleeping a lot.

Please help me get rid of this stuff! Do you think it's swine flu?
----------

You can check if you have swine flu through the online tool developed by Microsoft:
http://www.knowabouthealth.com/microsoft-online-tool-for-screening-of-h1n1-symptoms/

It should not be considered as medical advice. If you find that tool suggests you to see a doctor, call a nurse hotline number to confirm this assessment or visit a doctor.  (+ info)

how do you bring down a fever from the swine flu?

i just got diagnosed with the swine flu today and my temp is 102 it keeps going up then down. Its really freaking me out how do i make it come down?
thanks! im drinking theraflu and taking i ib profin every 2 hours
the doctor gave me Tamiflu and zpack today..i just wish it would start working now! this is the WORST feeling EVER!
----------

Go get some Motrin. Sometimes having a fever isn't bad at all. It's your body's way of fighting it off. If it gets over 103 I'd say cool it down a bit. I hope you feel better. Remember to keep drinking fluids.  (+ info)

Do i have the swine flu? I had lots of the synthems but not a fever?

Im in north carolina and someone in my class had the flu. Idk if it was the swine flu. Then the next day i started getting body aches head aches and soar thraots and lots of cuaghing. But i didint have a fever? So do i have the swine flu?
----------

I don't think you have it. It's probably a common cold or common flu.

This swine flu "epidemic" probably just got to your head. I mean, if this wasn't such a big thing right now, and you're legitimately sick, you'd probably think it's only a cold. But since the swine flu is getting so much media coverage, you think you have it... If you get what I'm trying to say.

Don't be so worried.  (+ info)
