has anyone had a baby born with clubfoot in the past 5-years?

If so, what treatment did he/she receive, and how well did it work?
----------

First of all, don't worry, clubfoot is relatively common occurring every 1 in 1000 births. It takes some time to fix but can be fixed well without anyone being the wiser later in life.

Here is an excellent article (with photos) about clubfoot and the treatment for it:

http://www.mgh.harvard.edu/ortho/ClubFoot.htm

The baby may also have dislocated hips and need double diapering at birth until he/she can have surgery. Baby will need corrective casting and possibly several surgeries. However check this out: it says celebrities born with clubfoot include: Kristi Yamaguchi (figure skater), Dudley Moore, Damon Wayans, Mia Hamm (soccer player), Troy Aikman (football player)! So you see it can be treated successful with no one being the wiser.  (+ info)

my friends little girl was born with a clubfoot and has had 9 operations on her legs?

is the girl classed as disabled as she has trouble walking far many thanks
----------

Yes it's possible she is classed as disabled. I would suggest that she talks to her GP who should point her in the right direction.

She maybe entitled to disability benefits depending of the level of care that is needed for her and how it affects her life.

This technically isn't a disability but your friend should be allowed to get help from special services or at least some financial help.  (+ info)

what are the cause and treatment for newborn baby with clubfoot?

There are several ways to treat it, depends on the severity and the child's age. For my brother, they put his legs in casts from the day he was born. He wore them for several weeks to form the feet back to their correct position. After casts, he wore corrective shoes (looked a lot like he was wearing shoes on the wrong feet). At night, the shoes connected to a bar - again to help form the feet/ankles back to their correct position. Eventually his feet were normal (though he will always be pigeon toed). In fact, he's now one of the fastest runners on his high school cross country track team.

Here's a wiki I found on it also: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Club_foot  (+ info)

What are some intereting facts for clubfoot?

Taipes Equinovarus
----------

It's a condition that can be related to many other issues like spina biffida, Genetic disorders and much more. The clubfoot is almost always smaller if it only affects one foot. You can have missing joints in the ankles due to this condition.
Some cases are very easy to treat while others like my son can never be totally fixed no matter what. Once you have one child born with it the chances are 25% higher that your next child can be born with it also. During treatment you are casted and then put into braces for a long time to keep the foot straight.  (+ info)

Has anyone ever heard of clubfoot?

If so do you know a good physician to see?
Thank you all for the answers. My son was also treated for clubfoot, and the military doctors stink. I am trying to find someone that knows what is going on to give him a check up.
Well thank you all but the one about hammer toes. I in no way found that funny.

My darling nephew had club foot and used military doctors too. Wish you luck  (+ info)

hi i am an orthopaedic surgeon.
Clubfoot is cure two ways
1 without surgery -- it should be start within few days of birth first with simple exercises and then plaster cast which change every 20-25 days in correct position. if doctor are satisfied then plaster continew till correction achived after that special foot wear applied. this period continew up to age 14 year if u r not taking proper care redeformity will there.
2 surgery if we r not getting good result with plaster cast or pt come after age of 4-5 months or in resistence case we go for sugery and serial plaster cast then after. surgery is need speciall attention and skill about 12 -16 structure should repair.
