Could someone give me list of disorders where having protein is bad for them?

Could someone tell me of medical conditions that require a low protein diet or illness that are affected by protein in foods. Such metabolic disorders
----------

Renal diseases with kidneys. Such as acute renal failure or chronic renal failure. Usually the blood is filtered in the kidneys and turned into urine. When kidneys are not working you end up having too much protein circulating so therefore protein is restricted along with sodium and potassium.  (+ info)

Does anyone know about the blood clot disorders: low Protein C & S?

I had a pulminary embolism 1 yr ago and was put on Coumadin for 10 months. Is that long enough or should I be on it for life, to prevent another clot? My only symptoms were shortness of breathe & very mild chest pain. Looking back I had some red blotches on my face and chest in the mornings only. And I had some swelling in my ankles and hands at night & morning, and boughts of extreme fatigue. (I assumed it was because of my age-39) I am getting the swelling back and have continued to get the occassional chest pain and one day I just couldn't wake up...are these signs of another clot?
----------

I have a different clotting disorder an am on Coumadin for life. I do not have statistics, but I do believe that chances of an event re-occurring is much greater when taken off anticoagulant therapy. Find a new and more knowledgeable Dr. Best wishes.  (+ info)

I was recently diagnosed with the blood clotting disorder MTHFR and Protein C. Can I take fertility drugs?

Also I have PSOS. Which I take 500 mg of glucophage a day. My husband and I have been TTC for the past 7 months with no luck. My doctor mentioned taking the fertility drug Letrazole. Can I take that with the blood disorders I have? Has anyone else been on Letrazole?
----------

You (or your doctor) need to discuss this with your blood specialist. Some fertility drugs do increase blood clotting.  (+ info)

Has anyone had high protein in their urine without high blood pressure?

I am only 18 weeks pregnant and have had high levels of protein in my urine from the start 3+. I have done a 24 hr urine test and that came back bad. My doctor has tested me for Lupus and other auto immune disorders. They just called me and want me to see a specalist because that test also came back bad. Has anyone else had this problem?
----------

I'm not pregnant, but I had to do the 24 urine test for my visa because my blood pressure skyrocketed during the exam.

What made them make you do the 24 hour test without high blood pressure? There must have been some symptoms.

I did the 24 hour test and it came back perfectly fine, but all I do know is it checks to see if your kidneys are functioning properly. Or if your organs have been damaged due to high blood pressure.

Did you do any strenuous exercise during the sample collecting? That can throw off the numbers a good bit.

I'm sure the specialist will let you know what's going on. Don't stress about it too much. My thoughts and prayers are with you.  (+ info)

The defects that cause some human disorders can be traced back to organelle malfunctions.?

For the following disorder, which organelle is probably responsible for the problem? Explain your answer.
A doctor tells a patient that his red blood cells are abnormally high in hemoglobin content. The patient is given medication to slow down the synthesis of this particular protein. The patient dies and his relatives sue the drug company. Which organelle is named in the lawsuit?

Can not eating enough protein (like red meat) affect a person with disorders? Or the brain chemicals?

I stopped eating red meat about 3 years ago. I don't know why, but all of a sudden it started to disgust me. Since then, all problems arised and Ive been 'diagnosed' with social phobia and irrational thoughts which supposedly to my psychiatrist he says it's because of a chemical inbalance and now he put me on meds.

Now my question is, can lack of protein in the brain affect its function or cause some malfunction like disorders and not thinking straight. I know theres something wrong with me. I dont feel i think right anymore, i have alot of irrational fears and im afraid to go out with people now and in the streets its become a burden. So i want my life back....

PS: when i stopped eating Red meat, i was really young i didnt know how to repl;ace that protein. do you think that was a problem?
I still eat fish, chicken, tuna, beans (but not enough i think)

or the red meat has nothing to do with the chemical inbalance/phobias AT ALL????? HELP me!?
My psychiatrist says it;s because I have a GENETIC PROBLEM??? that it is in my genes. I dont believe him?
Patricia.......what if you dont eat enough of the other protein?
----------

Stopping eating meat is a very good thing. All my parents and my grandparents were vegetarians. None of them suffered from chemical imbalances or depression. Be assured that there is nothing wrong with stopping eating red meat. The opposite is almost true. Red meats contain high levels of cholesterol which predispose one to many artery diseases.

Red meat has nothing to do with your chemical imbalances. The brain's chemical imbalance you are talking about are related to neurotransmitters in the brain. Please remember that our body only needs basic foods. It is able to manufacture many proteins and complex chemicals from the basic foods.

It is true that if you have a family history of depression than you are predisposed to depression. However it is important for you to know that we all (so called healthy people) also go through periods of elation (happiness) and depression.

The current theory that explains depression states that neurotransmitter imbalance within the human brain is the root cause of depression. It recognises that these neurotransmitters cause many psychiatric conditions and also that these psychiatric conditions can be improved with medications that rectify the imbalance. The term "chemical imbalance" originated from a scientific study of brain chemicals in the 1950s. Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) and tricyclic antidepressants are known to be effective in the treatment of depression. These findings and other supporting evidence led Joseph Schildkraut to publish his paper called "The Catecholamine Hypothesis of Affective Disorders" in 1965. Schildkraut associated low levels of neurotransmitters with depression. You can read all about chemical imbalances at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chemical_imbalance_theory

How can I lose weight after suffering from Eating Disorders and with a slow metabolism because of them?

I had anorexia for a few years and more recently I've suffered from bulimia and binge eating disorder. As a result of the binges, I put on 3 stone (42 lbs) in about 3 months.
I've since stopped binging and now eat around 1600 cals a day from healthy sources (lean protein, good/wholegrain carbs and plenty of fruit/veg) and exercise on a daily basis - exactly what the dietician told me to do. However, my weight is still going up and it's driving me insane being this big AND not being able to lose weight or even understand why I'm still gaining.
I know there are issues with the metabolism n muscle weighing more that fat, but I'm not even seeing a difference in my clothes sizes etc.
Please help - I have become severly depressed because of my body and I can't take this for much longer. I still have regular counselling sessions but it's got to the point where there is little that they do for me

Thanku in advance
----------

I don't mean to be disrespectful, but I don't believe you are eating only 1600 calories a day and still gaining weight, unless you are being very sedentary. Metabolism varies in people, especially if there is a pathological reason for it such as thyroid disease. However, if you're burning more calories than you're taking in, you will lose weight. That is a physiological fact. Do you write down what you eat? Having been anorexic, you're probably very aware of the calorie count of everything you put in your mouth. Sometimes seeing it on paper, though, helps you determine where you may be going wrong in your eating.

Have you had a physical recently? Is your thyroid ok? What do you consider exercize? Is it enough to get your heart beating more quickly and all your muscles working?

Perhaps you need medication for your depression. There are so many new, effective medications for depression that can help you through this difficult period and improve your motivation and frame of mind. Perhaps you need a new counselor, if you've reached a plateau with this one.

Don't give up. Be honest with yourself and remember that it will take time to get your body back into shape.  (+ info)

Anybody here had a stillbirth due to blood clotting disorders?

After mine @ 23 weeks, my Dr. discovered I have something called Protein S deficiency and he believes that is what cause the demise. He also mentioned something about this being an autoimmune system disorder and that means that my body was attacking the fetus. Next time I will be taking Lovenox (bllod thiners) and Prednisone (cortirosteroids sp??) to prevent my body from attacking the baby

What are some cheap protein supplents I could take with Synthroid?

I'm a vegetarian, and I also have a thyroid disorder. I know that your diet doesn't really affect your thyroid, but I just want to be sure that protein supplements won't affect my thyroid meds in any way.
