for the past year i ave been on the remicade for colitis or maybe chrones?

not sure which, but biospy came back in favour of colitis.now the remicade dosent seem 2 be working, does anyone know anything about this and whats after this.
----------

Well I have colitis and I am on Asacol. Remicade probably isn't working because you have colitis. After this you will probably get a colonoscopy if the biopsy wasnt from the colonoscopy. Good luck.   (+ info)

Can i get a medical waiver for the Marine Core for ulcerative colitis?

I am 17 and i just found out that i have ulcerative colitis (this is my first flare up). i have wanted nothing more to join the Marines since i was a kid and now im told i probably won't be able to. I am not enlisted yet, but plan to very soon and have already taken my ASVAB and got a great score. Would i be able to get a medical waiver?
----------

You really need to ask your local Marine recruiter. As this is your dream I hope that it doesn't prevent you from fulfilling it. Thanks for serving our country!  (+ info)

I have ulcerative colitis, and want to join the army after major surgery to get rid of it, could i?

The surgery would be completely removing my colon but then make another out of my small intestine. (I think) But it would completely rid me of ulcerative colitis and I'll be able to live a regular life once I've made it through recovery.
----------

Unless it severely hinders your ability to enjoy life, I wouldn't recommend surgery. If it's keeping you out of the military, and your doctor says it would best for you, then go ahead. But otherwise, reserve surgery as a last resort.  (+ info)

What OTC pain reliever is the safest to use for a headache during a colitis flare-up?

I think I am having a colitis flare-up. I haven't had a colonoscopy yet, but I have rectal bleeding.
I know that I should stay AWAY from ibuprofen (Advil) and probably should also stay away from aspirin.
Is it safe to take paracetamol/acetaminophen (Tylenol)?
----------

When I have flair ups I find the best thing for getting things under control is meditation and yoga. After 7 surgeries it is the one thing that helps me the most.  (+ info)

Does anyone have any natural remedies for Ulcerative Colitis?

I have ulcerative colitis and 28 years old. Dr wants to operate if not controlled by medication. The medication i am on doesn't seem that effective. Any Ideas?
----------

Well, again I have to agree with everything Zambiti just said including getting Jordan Rubin's book.
Along with the Bee Propolis add about a cup of Aloe Vera juice or gel to you routine everyday or if symptoms are severe drink about a half cup thirty minutes before each meal. You want to be careful not to give yourself diarrhea so self regulate. You might want to check into using some Boswellia too, very healing.  (+ info)

Does any one know if calcium supplements affect ulcerative colitis?

My husband is in another flare of his colitis the only thing we can think that he has changed is taking calcium supplements upon the doctors request. This is the second time he has tried this and the second time that it has flared. Despite attempts to find out from the doctor and the specialist as well as the pharmacist we are being told this could not be the cause. Has any one else had this problem or reaction to taking calcium?
----------

I doubt the calcium supplement would send him into a flare. I think it's coincidental, although can not be 100% on that statement.

As all people with UC, we should always be on supplements...the most popular being iron and calcium. Calcium especially if you're on steroids past or present. Who knows though...they could make him flare for some reason. He's not mixing the calcium with OJ or iron...or something else that would upset his tummy?

I highly recommend that you check out this forum called Healing Well. It's a place for all us UC sufferers (and their families) to go a ask questions/vent. You can just spy--you don't have to join and talk. You can search through the database of old questions too.

I was just thinking it would be a useful tool and that you could ask your question there. You'd have many more answers than on here AND possibly something more helpful.

I'll post the link below.
Good luck. And maybe we'll run into each other (although I'm more of a lurker than a talker) =)  (+ info)

What are the odds of two women unrelated living in the same household developing Ulcerative Colitis?

I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis in 2007. Now, my domestic partner is starting to show symptoms. Could there be an environmental cause to UC? Or is it we are just a statistic that is improbable, but not impossible?
----------

Ulcerative colitis is not contagious. Environmental factors are not definitive. So it seems that it's a statistical coincidence. Some bacterial infections show similar symptoms to UC. Lab samples can provide a diagnosis.  (+ info)

Do I have colitis or am I being a hypercondriac?

I've been looking up my symptoms and researching colitis over the internet, I was recently on anitbiotics and a side effect was developing colitis. Since I began taking the pills over 3-4 weeks ago it seems as if I go to the bathroom every other minute. The thing is, I stopped taking the pills almost 2 weeks ago and now I'm having severe abdominal pain almost to the point where I can't move and the visits to the bathroom have become more frequent. Can anyone shed some light on this? Am I just being over dramatic ?

what is ulcertive colitis and do you always have blood in your stools?

I was diagnosed with ulcertive colitis about five years ago and took medicine for it. I now cant stop going to the bathroom. I went off the medicine about 2 years ago.
----------

ulcerative colitis - chronic disease of unknown cause, characterized by ulceration of the colon and rectum with bleeding, mucosal crypt abscesses, and inflammatory pseudopolyps, often causing anemia, hypoproteinemia, and electrolyte imbalance.

How do you not know that and you've had it for 5 years and taken medicine for it. And blood in your stools is not a good sign at all. You need to get more of your medicine. Its a sign that you still have that problem.  (+ info)
