viral conjunctivitis (pinkeye) question.?

My son and I both have viral pinkeye, does anyone know how long it's contagious for?
We both woke up with it on Saturday and called the doctor, he called in an antibiotic, which will obviously not work for viral pinkeye, but we weren't sure what kind it was. Now I have to wait until tommorow to get in touch with the doctor and I need to know if I can go to work (I work in a preschool) and if he can go to school. We both have to be there before the doctor is in.

If anyone could let me know, I would aprectiate it!
Thanks!
There is no cure for viral pinkeye, so even if we had gone to urgent care they wouldn't be able to do anything...so why go?
Viral pinkeye is different from bacterial pinkeye, there is no cure and it can last up to three weeks, we can't afford to be out for three weeks.
----------

If you have been diagnosed with viral pinkeye, taking an antibiotic is completely unnecessary! I would say wait 48 hours, if no improvement go back to your doctor and see if additional measures are necessary. Most cases of viral pinkeye last 48 to 72 hours. Give it a bit longer........handwashing is the key to the cure!

Most daycares/schools require 24-48hrs before a child can return to school. But viral pinkeye is contagious for as long as there is exudate and a "strawberry" pink conjunctiva.

do i have to throw out my make up if i got conjunctivitis?

I started getting some symptoms related to conjunctivitis a week ago or so, when I started noticing my eyes itching and watery I decided not to wear any eye make up. I went to the doctor and I got Fucithalmic eye drops. I noticed that as soon as I was catching a cold it was at the same time I was getting conjunctivitis, so I'm thinking it might have simply been a viral thing. Should I be able to use my make up now? After I have finished with the treatment?
----------

Yes definitely throw out all your make-up and also wash your towels or any flannels. Conjunctivitis is very contagious.  (+ info)

Help. Viral Conjunctivitis?

I'm 14 years old and this is my second time with pink eye. But this time my eye doctor said it's severly contagious. I was just wondering if anyone knew of some tips to help me become more comfortable during the healing process. I'm taking TobraDex which is helping me keep my eyes open. But even still, I fell horrible and New Year's is tomorrow! Please help. Anything is fine. Thanks =(

Some warm, wet compresses might ease your pain. And make sure to wash your hands very frequently. Don't touch the affected eye and then the unaffected without washing. Good luck!  (+ info)

i have viral conjunctivitis =(?

if anyone out there has ever had this or pink eye, could u give me some tips because i know its not treatable. thanks

Treat conjunctivitis or pinkeye with this simple kitchen remedy. In fact this remedy is effective on all kinds of sore eyes, sties, and other eye infections.

Using a non-herbal tea bag, add enough hot water to soak the tea bag. Apply the tea bag over the affected eye as a poultice for ten to fifteen minutes. Use the remaining water from the tea bag to wash the eye frequently to keep the eye clear of infection.

When the poultice gets cold, you can add more hot water. Continue washing the eye with the tea bag solution and applying the poultice for as long as needed.

When the selecting the tea bag, any will do, except for most herbal teas. Tea bags that are composed of leaves from the actual tea shrub, (not leaves from fruit or herbal plants), have an essential ingredient that most herbal teas do not have: tannin, an astringent compound that is antibacterial, anti-viral and very soothing for the eye.  (+ info)

viral conjunctivitis?

I was told by a specialist to take certian eye drops to help clear up my eyes and was told it would take 6 weeks but since I have seen my normal doctor she and the hospital would not prescribe me with the right medication , insted she and the hospital gave me antibiotic eye drops and that has made the problem worse , what should I do as doctors arent taking my specialists instructions seriously and the problem is not going away.
----------

Call the specialists office and give them the phone number of your pharmacy- make sure the specialist calls in the correct medication- my daughter just had viral conjunctivitis and it took 3 weeks on the right meds to get rid of it--and you may want to get a new doctor since the one that gave you the wrong med should have his license revoked for being an asshole.  (+ info)

Pink eye/bacterial/viral conjunctivitis has not improved in over a month & opthamologist is NOT helping. Any1?

I've had this pinkish, filmy, glassy eye-look for over a month now. I've taken doxycycline (I've been on it for 3 weeks) and there's been no improvement. The tobramycin I was initally given made my eye worse. I was given alzasite eye drops to put in my eye before bed, which haven't done anything either. My eyes are still pink with some white discharge during the day.. not much though. They are irritated and in the morning, they hurt and are really red. Is there anyone that can tell me if this is ever going to get better. The ophthalmologist had said it was bacterial and that after 2 weeks of doxy, I'd see a dramatic difference. He's basically full of crap and I don't even want to go back to the eye doctor because he didn't help at all. Is there anyone that has had these eye symptoms and can help? I'm so frustrated right now.

make an appointment with another eye doctor. Get that second opinion. You know that it is the right thing to do.

So do it  (+ info)
